Road conditions are good from ooty to metupalayam. From there the road conditions till the outskirts of coimbatore city are good but infested with mad traffic.Road widening work on the outskirts will slow down the speeds by a large extent.Coimbatore to munnar, the road conditions are very good single laned but with HGV and Buses ruling the roads at their own rules. Once past udmalpet things seem to get better, with less traffic and good country roads. From Chinar check post till munnar, the road conditions are above average with occasional potholes.

Total distance: Ooty -Munnar: Appx 260kms
          Riding time :Around 6.5-7hrs
Mine was a 4 day ride

              Hey Phani!
Great ride and lovely pics. Would love to see some more (?). We had planned to ride to Munnar on our ride to Kerala last month but didn't work out.
How did you find the road between Thoppur to Dharmapuri (?), we came that way on our return and that stretch- Bhavani-Mettur-Thoppur-Dharmapuri was pathetic.

Very tempting to just head out to the hills as the Winter too ain't cool now ...
OK Average road conditions is all is expected and it does seem , that's like the least of the problems compared to the traffic ...

So where are the remaining pics ?

When someone thinks of tea, there are three prominent places in India , where tea is cultivated in abundance. Assam, Ooty and Munnar(pronounced "Moon-aar" short for "moonu aar" meaning three rivers) . Munnar known for its mist covered hills, exotic plantations, vibrant variety of flora and fauna, Panaromic views drives even the laziest of lot to pack the bag and head towards this one of a kind bio diversity. Having read countless travelogues about this land of diverse culture , bit was time that I tried it first hand . Decided to do a solo this time as well, but this time Monty and Rajiv wanted to accompany on this Road trip. A reunion of old college buddies, three set of wheels, A tank full of fuel, bags packed the ride was On. Even though Monty and Myself had been on such four figure rides ,it was the first time that Rajiv would be doing something of this magnitude.
The initial plan was to ride through the New Year but had to postpone it. So the immediate dates were the coming weekend that had to be extended. Bikes serviced, Papers checked, Fuel filled off did we decided to take the once upon a time smooth SH17. Rajiv had never been to Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta(HGB), so on his request decided to include that in the plan.

                      Day 1:

Thanks buddy Apparently what used to happen is that we used to take breaks away from towns under some trees in some isolated roads, no body to take snaps. So had only 2 pics in which all three of us are there.
