  • Leh in January ?

    Hi all,

I am planning for a trip to Leh by flight from Delhi with a few friends on this Friday... I have a few queries

1)Will I be able to visit the pangong tso and tso moriri lakes or are the routes closed ?
2)What are the options available for inexpensive accomodation?

    Brave query moved and approved.

Hi sciphi, don't think the Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri routes will be open in January.

And don't worry about accommodation, there are hardly any tourists in this season in Leh, so all the hotels/rest houses will be empty, so finding a cheaper option shouldn't be an issue.

      Hi Sciphi,

The Army attempts to keep Changla open throughout the year, as it is an important link route to Chusul. So you should find the route to Pangong accessible. However, if it snows and Changla is snowed out, you will have to stay either at Pangong (in your own tent, camps will not be available in Jan) or at Tangste (30 kms before Pangong, accommodation should be available) for a couple of days before connectivity is restored.

Similarly for Tso-moriri. The chumathang/mahe-bridge route should be open as there are no passes in between. Carry your own tent and camp at korzok.

      Both lakes will be frozen.
