    Leh Ladakh-2011

    Hi All,
    Me and 3 of my friends are planning to get Leh'd . We have booked the "Sampark kranti" train on the 8th of April n would be taking our bikes with us on the train. Our plan is to come back on 23rd Apr.
    Need all your suggestions about the weather, route n lodging details for the trip.

        Ram- Will the roads be open in April ?
        Last time I checked the Manali route opens by May end or June 1st week...
        Not sure of the Srinagar route...

        PS: I am riding to Leh on my P180 in June..

        Both routes have their own charm, so I suggest do both..

          From what I heard, the passes will be opened only after May/Jun. Since I only have a hear say knowledge, I could be wrong though.

            Ram: Roads *will* be closed in April, unless there's some sort of a environmental miracle. Roads completely open around End May/Early June. But this time is usually strung with a lot high probability.

            Mid June-End August: Passes are usually open unless there's freak weather. But it rains so expect a lot of slush.

            Sept-Early Oct: Clear skies, open roads mostly. You should plan for this time if you want to see everything.

              08-April seems to be too early IMO. Push it further by couple of months, 1st week of June would be good enough.. *Some* Passes might still be closed, But it all depends on your luck / weather conditions at that time. If it is your first time, I would definitely suggest / advice to take it around June - July and not before that.

                Hey, definitely doing both the routes man. I was asking which way to ascend Leh, as lot of people have suggested to go via Srinagar and come back via Manali. I think now i have to postpone the ride to June-july, isnt it the tourist/rainy season then?

                      Nope Ram, the tourist season starts from July, and so does the prices shoot up(accomodation)...

                      My suggestion is June, rains start by July or June end, but nowadays its very unpredictable..
                      we can ride together..

                        Would be great to ride together dude, even Rahul, Aditya n Sharat have Leh plans this year. Keeping fingers crossed

                              Hmm. A big gang seems to be going towards Leh this year. I guess there would be more. It would definitely be fun. I dont have confirmed plan, but its tempting very much.
