  • Mumbai to Kolkatta

    Hi,

I am planning to go for Mumbai to Kolkatta ride on 2nd May 2011.
as this will be my first long distance ride, so need valuable suggestions, tips, road conditions, and any other information from my all dear xbhpians which will be helpful for during ride. The ride is 85% fixed and 15% still tentative . The total distance which i will cover is approx 2000 km one way.

Waiting for reply from all the experts and long riders ..
Replace the words "I have to" with "I choose to" and notice the difference in how you feel.

Safest route from Mumbai to Kolkata is

            1) Mumbai - Pune (4 lane NH4)
            2) Pune - Solapur - Hyderabad - Vijaywada ( 2 lane road with *hit loads of traffic, specially buswala's-truckwala's coming right onto us)
            3) Few KM's ahead of Vijaywada,GQ starts.Its all 4 lane till kolkata.
            4) Vijaywada - Vizag - Bhubaneshwar - Kplkata
            5) Post vizag road was under construction for around 100 Kms patch at our time..not sure about the current condition..Contact Aman from Mumbai Xbhp,he has done golden quad very recently.
            6) I would not recommend the Nagpur - Raipur stretch as its a Naxal hit area.
            7) Prepare a daywise plan based on the road condition and how much kms you can ride on a day.

All basic rules apply..Like carrying spares.getting your bike thoroughly checked etc etc..

Let me know if you have any more questions..Ride safe

            Cheers

Did Pune to Kolkatta last FEb through the Pune>Hyderabad>Vijaywada>BHubaneshwar>Kolkatta.

Pune to Hyderabad is good roads with some rough patches but its an undivided highway and there is good truck traffic.
Hyderabad to vijaywada is good road, yet undivided but insane traffic with insane drivers
Vijaywada to Behrampur is a smooth carrom board highway (divided). Behrampur at orissa border is bad and its okai roads till around 150-100 kms before BHubaneswar.
Bhubaneswar to Kolkatta is pretty good highway.

Hyderabad to Vijaywada stretch (close to 300 kms) is entirely dug up for road widening. Just returned from a road trip from Chennai yesterday and was on the Vijaywada -hyd stretch. Horrible road condition, everywhere construction materials, road rollers, workers and trucks and buses awaiting to go pass in lines. Its a nightmare to be on this stretch. once you on it, you would regret the decision. avoid if possible.

                        Thanks bro for your help,
Previously i have thought of riding from Mumbai-Nashik-Bhusaval-
Nagpur-Kolkatta. but most of xbhpian's buddies have listed the different route which is a part of GQ and if i go through vizag -bbsr i will cover some what part of south india too, so that's seems more interesting. the detailed plan of the ride will give later
