i was thinking to share about this with all the members are the experience i had and the mistakes that i did.
The story starts here me and my friend wanted to do something adventuruos, so we decided that we should should make a tour to changu(Tsomgo lake) of sikkim and also reach baba mandir if we can.
That was a mighty task that we have decided.
Early in the sunday morning we started on one bike pulsar 220, two guys. By 8:30 am we have reached gtk from majhitar a ride of 38 km.
we headed straight to the road which leads to changu lake.
9 am in the morning we reached the check post where the pass had to be shown.
we cleared that check post with the necessary pass and started our way to changu who knew that we had so much to see on our way.
As we started to climb up the air started getting thinner and the roads were getting smaller and worse.
Many places there were jams because of Big army truck coming form the other way.
we being on two wheels were lucky that we didnt had to wait in those jams. Finally around 10:30 we reached the 13th mile check post and we had the first cup of tea. We reached changu at around 11:00 am
Changu is at a distance of nearly 26 Km from gangtok and at a altitude of around 12500-13000 feet not sure of this
After reaching changu and playing around with snow for a while we decided that we should start to move towards Baba Mandir. Its 25 Km from changu.
The view after we started from changu was simply awesome surrounded by giant snow clad mountains. Altitude getting higher and higher as every Km passed. we have reached 14000 feet and the view was getting even better and better.
i even wished that i can live here forever enjoying the natural beauty.
finally we reached baba mandir at an altitude of 14200 feet. The feeling of being there on two wheels i can't express only someone who reaches there can feel it.
we stayed there for a while played with snow like kids the sun was shinning bright and i removed my jacket also it was not cold at all.
The bike was showing the symptoms of loosing power due to altitude.
The road from baba mandir to old baba mandir was like i m driving through heaven and the road was not that steep too i was feeling like i m riding in plains with lots and lots of curves in between.
The ride was real nice and we headed towards changu before it gets too late.
Stayed there for a while and had our lunch there and around 3:00 Pm we decided to return as we have to reach our home. My friend pointed to the downhill and said look how nice the clouds are but we mistook it for cloud and in a moment we were inside that deadly fog i should rather say mist.
Visibility dropped to few feets and i was not able to see where the roads were going. Truly saying i was just merely seeing at max 3-4 feets.
Then i decided that i would rather drive in wrong side.
In one side there will always be mountains and other side the cliffs so i took the mountain side so that i will not fall off the cliff. Temperature dropped like hell and we were shivering. Frost accumulated all over my helmet, jacket, gloves everywhere. Because of that mist i could not even close the lid of my helmet and it was freaking bad experience.
Then we decided to wait for some vehicles to pass by who have fog lights and our wait was over and a Tata Sumo came, his fog lights and even headlights were on so we started following that vehicle as we were somewhat able to see the brake lights glowing.
After doing this for some 10 Km finally the mist started to clear and we started to descend as fast as we can.
i have been to changu in bike two times before thats why i knew all the turns and bumps in the road and we reached gangtok real fast.
The 10 Km ride in that mist was real scary and i would suggest that anyone planning to go there please at least get fog lamps in your bike else it cud result in something bad.
Everyone cannot be as lucky as i was.
( i don't have much of them as it was a sudden trip and we didnt even take a camera but some shots taken from mobile have come real nice and i have uploaded them )
