I would advise you against travelling in the afternoon hours, as the grueling heat after 10 o'clock, Ahmedabad onwards is punishing. I did the same trip on a Bullet in April 2011, started from Valsad and reached Udaipur on day 1 itself but was left with acutely cracked lips and face due to the hot winds. Later I did Udaipur Jaipur in 1 day and then Jaipur to Delhi on another. Take the opportunity to the see the cities en-route.
Start early and reach early, this way you'll cover distance fast (due to less traffic) and avoid the heat.

Try to do the trip in 3-4 days coz then you'll actually be able to enjoy the scenery and the trip. Avoid the Udaipur - Ajmer route. The traffic after Jaipur is Chaotic and the roads under construction at regular intervals.

Keep your eyes open for stray animals, and local jeeps, bikes on the road.
I did not have even a single problem during the entire trip other than the heat and drowsiness!
    Ride hard, ride safe.

drowsiness is a big problem bro! Planning to do in 2 days as of now, but if the Mumbai Ahd leg is painful, then will stretch it over 3 days. I have a trip planned (this one not on the bike) starting monday, so can't afford anything more than 3 days

        Hello Buddy

you may refer the link http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/1...ordinates.html to learn more about my trip on the same route.

your idea of running in nite is fine but during that time you might not enjoy your ride that well.

your idea of doing Ahemdabad - Delhi in single day is possible but make sure you are out of ahemdabad by 4'O clock & try to reach Jaipur as early as possible because Jaipur to delhi is night mare ride inspite of good road as most of traffic is because of trucks & there is no way you can protect your eyes from high beam of incoming traffic.

Hope the input work for you.

        Thanks

The xbhp mag has me hooked to making a Leh trip, but I want to do a long tour on plains before i head out to the hills.

        1. Best route? Was planning on Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Udaipur - Chittorgarh - Kishangarh - Jaipur - Delhi. The other option is to move to Ajmer from Udaipur.
For the return, was planning on coming back via Indore (Delhi - Agra- Gwalior - Indore - Mumbai). Have heard this route is more scenic. Seen a number of reviews by people doing this on a car, but very few on bikes. Do these routes have patches where bikes aren't allowed?

        2. Plan to do the journey in 3 days. Drive only at nights and mornings to escape the summer sun. Is that recommended? Or am i better off braving the sun.

        3. Ninja specific : For people who've done tours on Ninja, any issues? Any spares / tools that should be kept in mind.

        4. Anything else i should keep in mind, this being my first really long tour, have done only 300km journeys so far.

        Cheers
        Vishal

The few shops i knew don't seem to have it (Bachoo and Performance Racing) On the tool kit, is the Ninja tool kit sufficient? Also, I got the Leo Vince exhaust installed last week. While it sounds great, i don't seem to be getting the same power in the lower rpms. Any idea what could be wrong?
            Check this out:

            Sarweshwari Engineers

Contact us - Sarveshwari Engineers, Delhi, India

They have dealers in all cities. Contact them and ask where you can get them in your city.

I use this and its very simple to use. Takes less than 5 mins to fix a puncture. Highly recommended.

Yes!! you got it rite. i must add here that, was my first trip so wasn't very sure what speed to maintain, where to take rest & near jaipur i met another group of bikers who were travelling to delhi. So in group you need to slow down a bit as well. As you might be travelling alone i must say that you might cover this distance in lesser time.

Use the Eastern/Western Express highway to leave Mumbai city and touch the NH 8.There are good 4 lane/6 lane routes which will make overtaking trucks easier.Gujarat highways were some of the best highways I have ever ridden.

Take a lot water and snack to eat whenever you feel hungry or while stopping at petrol pumps.
