  • When Our Horses met Horsely...

I come home on Friday night and tell my roomie to tank up. We are riding to Horsely Hills tomorrow morning. It has become like this like whenever we want to do a ride to some hill station, we see to it that we reach there by sunrise. Now Horsely hills is around 150 km away. Also there is no NH to it. Only a SH. Means not super duper roads. So we got to leave very early! We decided to leave by 3:15 am. So kept the alarm at 2:45 am and hit the bed. Got up at the sound of the alarm, got ready, geared up and left home by 3:20 am sharp! Had a print out of the Google mapped directions. Went to the first checkpoint(Hoskote). We were supposed ot take a left here and another right after that and hit SH-82. Luckily, and auto wala was there and he gave us directions. The SH was not in a very good shape. Decent roads but the traffic in the opposite side had blinding lights which delayed our progress. We reached there finally around 6:15. Nice roads to go on top where you can test your cornering abilities. No traffic all the way up. We did not have even a single vehicle in the opposite direction all the way up. Nice view from the top. Some two view points there and real cool breeze! Stayed there for an hour and then started back. The ride back was a bit sunny so we were becoming dehydrated soon. Got back to Bangalore around 11. A good interstate ride which was worth the loss of sleep!

Thanks bro. I know! Even I ve not heard about it until 2 days back. Good 2 lane SH to get there. With not so much traffic. Can get pretty hot but lots of tender coconut places in between to rehydrate. Definitely worth a ride!

Thanks bro.. Found quite a few resorts on top; run by the AP government and private ones. Heard that the AP Tourism operated cottages are cheap and good.

It still brings a smile whenever I remember that trip. The rideback in heavy rain was the 2nd best part of the trip.
