      Day 4:

      Malpe Beach

I had stayed up the previous night on some phone calls, which meant that I slept in and woke up really late. I wanted to take a morning walk by the beach so I scrambled out by 9 and walked along the beach for almost 6-7 kms.

      Empty beach:

After all that walking, I decided to find a shady spot and nap. I found some shade next to a boat and immediately dozed off. I think I was out for about a couple of hours. Best morning nap ever!

I think I would have slept the whole day, if my stomach hadn’t woken me up. I got really hungry, and began the walk back to the hotel. Near the hotel, there is a nice statue of Gandhi.

I got into the hotel, had a nice brunch and got to my room to shower up and ride out to someplace close by. I’d heard about this Krishna temple in Udupi which my mom wanted me to go to, and I thought I’d pay a visit.

I showered up, left my camera behind and rode out. I found the temple easily and spent some time there. I found that the temple seemed to be very well off. It’s not just the Tirupatis and Sabari Malas which are doing well monetarily in our country, even the smaller ones benefit as well. Religion is indeed a flourishing business (no offence to the religious ones reading this).

Anyway, I had some prasadam, which is generally why I visit temples , and left the place. Decided to head back to the hotel and take another nap, and spend the evening on the beach. Was having a great Monday so far

I reached the hotel, got one of the guys there to give the R1 a quick wash and dozed off. When I woke up, it was about 5 pm, and I headed out to the beach again. Walked a long way and then settled down to watch the sunset.

While I was sitting on the beach, I was observing tiny crabs scampering in and out of the holes in the sand. It was fascinating to watch, and while I had obviously disturbed the mini ecosystem of these creatures, I tried to blend in and be a part of the surroundings while they were running around minding their business, which was primarily carting up sand from inside the hole.

After about half an hour or so, they’d gotten used to me and were moving around fairly close to me.

I have a bunch of videos of these guys which I shot on my Flip. But it required a lot of patience for my friends to sit through and watch the videos after I got back. And at the end of it all, they thought I’ve lost my mind because I was watching crabs on a beach for hours together! So I won’t play them here.

View from where I was sitting:

Soon, the sun went down the horizon, and I couldn’t ask for a better way to wind the day down, especially a Monday, when I’d be caught up in the grind back in Bangalore.

      The sun goes down:

I began strolling back to the hotel, and was enjoying the cool breeze. Even the weather was way better than what it was back in Bangalore. I heard some of the locals mention that it had never been that pleasant during February in that area.

I had a nice and quiet dinner, and called it a night. The next day, I would be riding to Chikmangalur and I couldn’t wait!
