  • Riding to Dhanaulti: Help needed!

    Dear friends,

I am planning my second solo trip to Dhanaulti on my P135LS.
Till now, i had chalked out the trip as:

    (1) New Delhi - Meerut - Khatauli - Muzaffarnagar - Roorkee - Saharanpur - Dehradun - Mussorie - Dhanualti - Rishikesh - Haridwar - New Delhi.
Any suggestion in route in welcome.

    (2) Is it manageable in 3 days (24 june - 26 june).

    (3) What about weekend rush at that time at dhanualti?? Is it possible to get an accomodation without prior booking??
(On trip to Lansdowne, i spent 2 nights at a dhaba.. next to library.. but it was cheap with awesome food)

    Please help me out.

    Regards

The route you are planning to take is just perfect! Try to ride towards Tehri Dam,it will be a good experience+some great shots for your lens.

3 days seem to be appropriately right but do not rush into things.I guess,4 will do just fine. You need some time to sit back and behold the beauty of nature.I have been to Dhanaulti almost 5-6 times but have never stayed there (as because my hometown is Dehradun),can't comment on hotels but there isn't much rush.People hardly travel there. All they want is Mussssooorie..

      Mussorie-Dhanaulti-Chamba is bikers' delight!

      Enjoy your trip!
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

        +1, I recommend Tehri dam (not New-Tehri)

You will get accomodation at Dhanaulti - though it tends to be a bit pricey.
          Tehri Dam is absolutely must-see.
If you halt in Chamba - try the GMVN/KMVN(forgot which one it is) guest house. Its on top of a hill. Otherwise, there are Rs500 options with safe parking too.
3 days is an overkill in my opinion if only Dhanaulti is of interest.
You can include Chakrata as well. The road from Chakrata to Mussoorie has some amazing vistas enroute.
          My suggestion
Day 1: Start very early. Reach Chakrata by afternoon. checkout tiger falls.
Day 2: Chakrata - Mussoorie-Dhanaulti - Tehri dam dekko and back to Chamba
We had started at 10 in the morning from chakrata and were back in chamba at 6 after seeing tehri dam.
          Day 3: Chamba - Dalwala(Rishikesh)-Roorkee-Delhi -- comfortably done in 8 hours.

            @shivank, @Mik, @kurtrules - thanks a lot for guiding.

Is it possible to have a to and fro journey of 1200 kms (mcleodganj) on P135?? Is this bike has got enough potential (torque) required for the journey. Till now, its odo reads 12k, never drove it beyond 75kmph.. even on my trip to Lansdowne. But checked its top speed as 114 kmph twice on expressway for 12 - 15 sec. No problem as of now with the machine.. just some vibrations().

Are you guys sure that I will find accomodation on reaching Dhnaualti.. without prior booking??

            thanks

No doubt about the potential of the machine. People have done saddlesore rides on it

Though never rode it more than a few units of kilometers, but as much as I read about it, I think its very much able to do this for you

EDIT: Don't forget to share a log including some pics after the trip

Should be the case. I have never prebooked anywhere -be it remote areas or absolutely touristy places like jaisalmer and always manage to get a sub thousand rupee option. Sometimes as low as Rs 120

There are some really pricey hotels near the main market of Dhanaulti. Avoid them. Just while entering Dhanaulti from Mussoorie side - on the RHS there is this small 2 storied hotel which has a dhaba kind of look on the ground floor. Last year it was pink/yellow in colour (my memory fails me )
Opposite to it is some tin shed. This hotel is very cheap (I paid Rs 400 for a double bed-room with TV-hot water and clean beds)

Its a nice place and 3 days is more than sufficient. P135 shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure to get it serviced before the trip. In case of problem, remember that after all the dusty rides till Dehradun, you might want to allow proper air flow for riding in the hilly region by cleaning the air filter.

GMVN is a good option at Dhanaulti. During my last visit, I had food in that restaurant and was good considering the remote location. In the Park, make sure to get Apricot Fruit Syrup. It tastes good.

3 days is too much for just Dhanaulti. You may consider other places around. I heard that its raining there. Check out the weather and carry rain gear.
