  • [Photo Feature]: Visit to Bhimashankar and Heart surgery

    Date : 20 June'2011

Riders : Nikhil on P150 and Govil as a pillion

    Route : Dombivli - malshej - lenyadri - narayangaon - manchar - bhimashankar - rajgurunagar - chakan - talegaon - dombivli

    Distance Covered :450kms

Exams were over and immediately I planned a ride to Bhimashankar.I asked Siddhesh, Pavan and Prathmesh but they denied for some reason. So I was alone.Govil was my pillion. We decided to leave Dombivli by 05:15hrs.

I called Govil before leaving my place. He was ready.I asked him whether he had a bath, as we were going to visit temples. And as expected answer was negative. So our ride started at 06:00hrs.We fueled up the tank and crossed Kalyan, came on open NH222.Climate was pleasant...cool breeze and clouds..wow!!Govil is a good pillion. He never asked to stop unless we reached Naneghat, almost 75kms.We stopped somewhere there, took 10 mins break and started journey again.Road was awesome till that time but came across some potholes and bad patcheS, but not for long distance. They became smooth from malshej again..

    our first stop

Malshej was covered with clouds as usual we found in rainy days. They were so dense that even a truck headlights were hardly visible. We stopped at very first waterfall.Off course nothing was new but my DSLR. Yes,it was my 1st outing with new camera and I was eager to click those waterfalls with silky effect and all. So clicked some photos and head to next waterfall. Malshej has changed alot. I found some new construction and new digging, which ultimately resulted into only 2 alive waterfalls. We started our journey todards top. Winds were so harsh that they made bike wobble at top.

    some waterfalls

    dense clouds at malshejBusy fishermen

    beautiful sight of dam

for those who cant afford boats"jab G** pe aata hai, tabhi pata chalata hai".So we went to temple prayed and left that place as fast as possible..

          Lenyadri-Bhimashankar-Chakan

The time was around 11:00hrs.Again we decided to do the lenyadri - bhimashankar in single stretch. We reached Narayangaon in next 25 minutes . We saw Giant Radio Antennas on the way. It took 15 minutes to cross the Narayangaon due to monday market traffic.Narayangaon - Manchar journey was cakewalk..smooth NH 50 lead there within 15 minutes. We saw a board showing 'Bhimashankar this way' and took the right turn. Initially the road was going through a Manchar city so was not in good condition. But as we crossed manchar, the road was fantastic. It was newly built and construction were going on some patches. It was awesome. The road was full of turns and after a turn we saw a big dam.It was Dimbhi Dam.We took a turn indicating 'towards dam' and that was really worth. Damsite was awesome, though there was very less water left. Spent around 20 minutes there and started towards bhimashankar.

          Dimbhi Dam

          Beautiful damsite

          cloudy Bhimashankar

The 'Dimbhi - Bhimashankar ' route is the awesomest road I ever seen, not construction-wise off course but the beautiful vistas you see at avery turn cant be compared to anything.People should start exploring inner maharashtra. Situation was like, every turn we took we used to stop and take photos. But again Govil saw his watch and reminded us time. So we did long stretch without any stop and reached Bhimashankar. Bhimashankar parking was the ugliest sight I ever seen It was full of mud and people were sitting, having food and their children shitting around..YUCK!!I parked my bike and left place as fast as possible. We went to temple, prayed and started searching a place where we can have our Brunch. A local shopkeeper told us about a point over there and showed us way.It was little inside, into the jungles. We reached there within 10 minutes. This site was totally different. It was calm and there was a white-out due to dense clouds. We had a food and clicked some photos. We left the bhimashankar by 15:30hrs.As I love to explore,I took different way to join NH 50.It was via wada to Rajgurunagar. Initial few kilometers were painful due to bad road and very steep ghat section, but road became good after around 6-7kms. There were small ghats, horizon touching plateaus. Journey was awesome. We decided to do it in single stretch, but beautiful nature stopped us.
