NH17 is not an easy road in rains.. ghat section will be more difficult in rains unless you have experience riding on this road through out don't take risk at all

Still if you want to go ahead with ride then i would suggest following things,

      Clear Visor for Helmet
      Proper rain coat
Good tyre and overall bike condition
      Not to mention safety gear

It's better to start early morning and reach ghat section by noon

Need help with accommodation in Goa near Baga / Calangut area PM me

If you want to avoid major parts of ghats on NH17 then I would suggest you to travel via Pune, then hit the NH4 and from there enter Konkan region NH17 through the Gaganbawada ghat via Kolhapur.

This will be quite lengthy journey but it will have very low risk. NH4 is 4 lane highway, and we all know its pretty good to ride.

Your call, do let us know which route you have finally decided.

        Cheers.

          Hi Coolanukul,

I would advise you to stay away from the coastal route as recently there have been floods due to heavy rains. Is this the first time that you will be travelling with your friend to Goa ?
Have you done any long trips before ?

NH17 is a good road with some bad patches & stretches along the way.
Or as suggested by fellow xbhpian - you can go via NH4 (but its a little long route, i think you will have to travel an extra 70 kms).

I have travelled NH17 a couple of times on the bike.

Just make sure that you leave early in the morning and travel with an average speed as it is monsoon time and roads might be slippery at certain places. Be careful on ghats specially at the curves. Dont try and overspeed. You aim should be to reach Goa safely.

          All the best....
Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

other than the route, july is not a traveling season for goa if you are expecting sunny beaches laden with people.
Beaches will be empty with casual local tourists, no shacks, no shades,no shopping, just empty long beaches.
if you are not looking for that, then no worries at all

for the roads, NH17 will be mostly washed out and potholed all over. rains are not over yet so your ride will be twice as long.
Traffic on NH17 is not known to be sane even on clear days, you will need to be extra careful and visible on the road. would suggest halting along the road, as much away from the tar and between big trees, in case it starts raining heavy.

Not so true my friend... sure you won't be able to enjoy water-sports but party scene in GOA never ends not even when it's raining cats n dog..

Beach shacks St. Antonio n Britos are open at Baga other than that you have joints like Mambo's, Tito's, Capetown to party...

First hand information was there week back

There's plenty to do over here, even in the monsoon, each year more and more places remain open throughout the year.

Currently there's not been much rain since i returned home 2 days back, mostly raining at night.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

My small piece of advice : If you are a beginner in touring and if you Dont have experience riding in the rain(especially in the ghats) please reconsider the ride. And if you are a rain lover and an experienced tourer who doesnt mind getting dirty, goa in July ,Hell yeah
