I think that gave you an idea of what kind of a rider I am. Still a rookie among the rookies! But still a rider with the passion to get out there and roam around!
So there goes the quick into. Let the saga begin!
The last time I posted here, I was doing my second year BE degree at Coimbatore(still doing it). This time around, nothing much changed except for the obvious fact that I got promoted to third year in my degree and I got a new ride! Last time, I rode a 2001 model red CBZ and this time around my new Dio gets a taste of what it takes to climb through the hairpins!
I know this wouldn't quite count as a trip compared to xBhp standards, 'cos I see a lot of butt-breaking long trips being completed by our great tourers here. But I guess, my butt is getting used to the whole scenario!

The Ooty trip was something we had planned quite a while ago. After our class tour getting cancelled due to some problems, we rolled the tour money for us to go on a trip of our own.I had my taken back my CBZ to home in Thrissur(Kerala) for some repairing. And that compelled me to take my 3 month old Dio baby to Coimbatore. Though,I was against the idea initially(still am!),I had no choice but to take it there 'cos without a vehicle, my college-going would be in jeopardy. So everything was planned and we decided to go to Ooty on a weekend(Last week to be precise).
We had 4 bikes and 8 guys(2 of them were our seniors;4th yrs). Our rides included an Apache RTR 160, two CBZ extremes and my little green beauty.
Though I had been to Ooty a couple of times(from school i.e), I had never been there on a bike. And,this was only my second bike trip ever!
So you could imagine the excitement, right?!

We left Coimbatore at about 10.30 in the morning. I don't think I should be sharing more details about the road, the traffic and everything to the experienced riders here in xBhp. But still, as you guys would know, getting out of Coimbatore was one hell of a task with the dust and bad roads leading till the city outskirts. Once we had past the city limits, the roads became more and more smooth. After Mettupalayam, it was literal heaven with smooth tarmac and the geography beginning to change.
Frankly speaking, I was skeptical about Dio performance in the hair pins initially. I know a lot of people here would also have the same doubt(I think so). But let me tell you guys, the Dio was a mighty performer. Even though i don't know much about the technical details, one thing I can say, it climbs the curves without much of a trouble. Speeds get reduced, yes; but due to the automatic transmission system, correct amount of fuel drops in and there is no missing-feeling generated. I drove all the other bikes and the Apache performed better on the corners. Also, it was the most powerful of the lot with K&N Filter boosting it up.
Coming to economy terms; I'm very proud to say that my Dio was the one who consumed the least. It only took about Rs.350 of fuel for my Dio whereas others needed Rs.400(Up and Down included). We had a breakfast stop at Mettupalayam and took right from there. All of us exchanged our rides during the whole journey. This was the only part where I got a little bit worried, 'cos my friends would never look after my bike like the way I do. And can you believe, two of them started dancing on my dio while riding!! :O
But nothing went wrong as our senior kept on warning them about the risks involved and not getting carried away. But the whole mood of the trip was jolly and nothing really happened that caused us even a bit of tension.
We reached there at about 3.00pm in the evening after taking more than 10 breaks in between for photos, tea, etc. It felt as if we were overdressed for the occasion when we left from Coimbatore(especially me in the Dio!). But soon after we really started to feel the cold after entering the high-ranges in the Mettupalayam-Ooty road. Our hands were numb due to the cold and it was still in the middle of the day! Last time around when I went to Nelliyampathy, I reckoned this fact on why xBhp recommends gloves as standard safety feature. And due to my laziness, I haven't bought a pair yet.
We managed to get for a cheap amount of Rs.600 for 8 persons;prim rose lodge to be precise the excited one's among us got ready for a walk in the town. My goodness!! It was one hell of a walk I have had in my entire life.
The bad boys became good again and nothing ominous happened thereafter. We went to the usual locations like the Botanical Garden and the Ooty lake and left Ooty by noon. One thing that happened was that we managed to see a couple of wild Elephants in the tea estates while returning back. And not to mention, while I just took a couple of photos; my crazy friends went down hill with a cam near the elephant to take a snap of it!! They said they threw stones at it and managed to scare it away; at least that's what they said! But the came with the pics! I feel the elephants got scared on seeing them coming!!

It was one of the best trips I've had so far considering the fact that I rode the Dio continuously for an approx. 10hrs straight! I know that's nothing compared to what most of you do here, but this was really my longest ride since I've learned to ride. In total I completed 250kms approx.
Soon after reaching Coimbatore at about 6.00pm,I decided to take back my sweet Dio to home(Thrissur,Kerala). If the Dio had stayed there for a week,I would have to see it meet an untimely death; I mean, you guys know how things work around with boys staying out and going to college on bikes. Friends keep on asking for my ride and I'd really not like to share my ride, especially a brand new one with only one service done! I learned this valuable lesson after my CBZ was almost killed after a 2yr stint at Coimbatore(Oh yes, it still breathes!
). Again, left Coimbatore at 7.22 to be precise and reached home(Thrissur) at about 11.00pm. My life long wish to ride for a full day had come true at
last! I had kept an economy speed of max 60kmph and obtained a respectable mileage of 45kmpl. Mighty for the little warrior, ain't it!
Posting some pics of the trip here . Hope you liked it and please feel free to throw in any kind of advice or tips!
