This is the mail i received from Vicky rent a bike in Chennai.
what do you think? about the price?

    Hi Daniele,

It is recommended that you book a bike in advance. For that you need to pay the entire rental in advance.

.Thank you for your interest. You need to produce the original Passport with a valid driving license at the time of picking up the motorbike. We will collect the photocopies and return you the originals. Also bring a photograph of yours.

You may take our bike to any part of India but booking the bike back till Chennai either through Train or a Truck is your responsibility. A Royal Enfield 350cc is safe and reliable and would cost you Rs.750 a day. There is a limit of 100Km per day. Beyond which we charge Rs.5 for the extra kms Kindly visit http://rent-a-bike.webstarts.com/ or call 9952100400 for further details.

    Regards,
    SF Alam
    aargee incredible work for you
    thank you guys

      Rs 750 X 15 days works to Rs 11250...hmm...
And Rs 5 per Km after 100 Km is really a worry; your trip will involve around 2000 Kms & you'll be doing over 500 Kms in excess the quota. So the net will be...
      Rs 5 X 500 = Rs 2500 + Rs 11250 = Rs 13750, give or take approximately 14K!!!

One question - Does this Rs 5 includes or excludes the fuel cost? Reason being that RE yields a FE of about, say, 35 Kmpl; the average fuel cost around here is about Rs 70, so ideally it only costs Rs 2 per Km (assuming Rs 3 is for maintenance). If you've to pay for fuel in addition, then the overall cost works to Rs 7 per Km.

For comparison, lets look at the rates of cab services prevailing in India...
If you bargain little harder, you get a non A/C cab (Tata Indica) for Rs 800 a day for 100 Kms or 10 hours (whichever is earlier) & will be charged Rs 50 for additional 1 hour (not per Km). Now if your drive involves outside the city, say for long distance, then they charge Rs 7-8 per Km & if it involves more than 200-300 Kms, the prices are around Rs 6-7 per Km.

Which means, for a trip of 2000 Km you can hire a cab for Rs 14000 (2000 X Rs 7). Now this is a chauffer driven service for cab and if you share the cab with your friend, you'll only spend about Rs 7000 from your side

Point - Negotiate, negotiate & negotiate; bargain hard. This is your 1st lesson to learn when you come to India

@Strider - Tks; it means a lot coming from you

Edit - I called up these guys & they seem to be genuine; however, here're few tips for you...
      1. If you hire RE for 2 weeks, you can bring down the cost to Rs 650 a day
      2. The additional Rs 5 is exclusive of fuel cost
      3. If you're looking at economic alternatives, you may want to try Bajaj Avenger or other models such as Pulsar, or Hero Honda Karizma. The rental for Avenger is Rs 400-450 per week. But the additional Km & Rs 5 holds good for Avenger too.

        Hi guys.
thii is the message i received from a rent-a-bike in Bengaluru.

        Hi Daniele,

Thank you for all the information provided.

So, here's the deal for you.

We will provide you a Royal Enfield Bullet 350 cc in Chennai.
        Refundable Security Deposit - Rs.5000
        Rent per day - Rs.700
Delivery Charges to Chennai - Rs.4000 (You need not face the hassle of booking it in trains and trucks. We will take care of all that.)
There is no restriction on the distance you travel in a day.

Assuming you take the bike from 26th Dec to 13th Jan, it would be 19 days. At Rs.700 per day, it would cost you Rs.13300
Add to it Rs.4000 for delivery charges. It will cost you Rs.17300. Along with the security deposit of Rs.5000, you will be paying me Rs.22300.
You also need to give me a copy of your driving license and any one of your original Identity proof at the time of picking up the bike.

Once you return the bike in Bangalore, I would be returning Rs.5000 which is the refundable security deposit along with your Identity proof.

Please confirm if these terms are acceptable to you so that I can block the bike for you.
what do you think? 4000 Rs for delivery? 700 Rs/day?

So you'll have to take a bus to Pondicherry (which is like a piece of cake), hire & start riding; when you complete your trip in Chennai, ride back to Pondi & complete site seeing at Pondi, return the bike & take a bus back to Chennai.

I'll grab the attention of guys from Pondicherry (PY) who might chip in to provide you some rental rates of motorcycles in PY. The reason I'm suggesting rental from there is because there're hell a lot of motorcycles available for rental compared to Chennai.
Sure, man. Let us know if we can be of any help here at Pondy!

It ranges from Rs. 200 to rs. 300/350 for 24hrs/per day depending on the models one chooses. Needless to say that, one has to spend for petrol.
I 'll get back to this thread with more detailed information once I go to city(I stay in the University!).

Models range from Honda Activa to Pulsar(No surprise!) to Apache/FZ , and to Avenger/Bullet if one gets lucky!

Bullet 'd be great since 15 days isn't a joke. I 'll see what I can do.

This is the last mail from Bengaluru's rent

                    -----------
                    Hi Daniele,

Rs.700 per day is my final offer for Bullet 350. Also, I cannot reduce the delivery charges below Rs.4000 as petrol prices are very high now.

I can offer you a 220 cc bike for Rs.400 per day and a 150 cc bike for Rs.300 per day. The delivery charges would however remain the same.

So, please intimate me your choice of bike as soon as possible. Hope to see you in India soon

                    Cheers!
                    -----------------------------------

Positive: delivery where i need it ( Chennai) and take off where i need ( in Bengaluru)
negative: the price. For me in italy is not expensive but i hope he don't take advantage on me! Do you know the prices of this cycle in another rent?
I have to make the choice as soon as possible so..

Thank you very much for your time guys!

Sometime back, my friends had taken Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme(150cc) at Rs. 250 and Bajaj Avenger(220cc) at Rs. 350 per day. Both were in very good condition. There was no caution deposit too. However, it was just for 2 days. You 're supposed to give the rental fellow a copy of some document(Passport/Driving License/PAN card) as proof.

Their working style is pretty simple. These guys can be contacted only by meeting them in person. Or probably, one might contact over phone. That's all.
If you can give the details of the requirements, Pondy xBhpians can strike a deal. These bikes 're basically for the local use. So, we need to do some talking.

It is advisable to stay at ooty( 95-100kms from Coimbatore) than at Gundlupet. You cant find decent enough Accommodation around Gundlupet , but in Ooty there is plenty to suit your budget and needs buddy.
