i use to frequent this stretch from Tvmalai to vellore once a month for the last 3 years but in a car. the road from tvmalai to vellore was never perfect except for some parts was quite bad in between. now for good roads go from tvmalai to polur then take the road to arani. the road is quite good till arcot where u hit the chennai bangalore high way. in fact for chennai guys you can take this road, arcot, arani, polur, chengam and visit the dam at chengam.

sorry to off topic rider max. really good trip log and pics.enjoyed reading the same.

Hi Satish, Thanks ! Yes the Fiero was way ahead on the comfort level. Was really my first long ride on a four stroke and was truly pleased. The RX, especially with a pillion can be quite shaky at times, but it's a different kind of fun controlling her

Thanks ! Yeah the RX. It's around though it wasn't quite ready for this ride. Having said that, after my first long ride on a four stroke, it really was much more easier on our bones and more economical too.

Thanks Jay ! Well the RX is around and we will surely be making more rides on her. BTW, the comfort and the economy of the Fiero was much higher, but the RX is a different kind of fun.

You have proved it again and again that passage of years just means a lot of things go into that dairy of yours, making it heavier and has got nothing to do with passion for riding. Passion stays till we go to the grave. Hats off to you Sir (and double hats off to Madam ). From Emerald(RX) to saffire(Fiero) , how was the transition ????

^^^ Quite expected I did that route several years ago & was no different now; ideally, you could've taken Tiruvannamalai-Vellore & enjoyed the NH46-NH7 upto BLR. Upto Vellore you could knock off about 10-15 Kms for bad patchy roads, other than this, the road is good.

Tindivanam/Thirivanamalai was okay, after Thiruvanamalai, it started to slowly deteriorate until a last bit which was quite bad.

    Cheers

The Return Ride (Part 2) : A Rainy Morning and A Change of Plans

We had planned a good tour around Puducherry for the next day (3rd Oct). Decided to wake up early and watch the Sunrise. We are so used to watching sunsets on the beaches of Goa that we almost forget that there’s no beach sunset on the east coast, only sunrises. The alarm goes off at 5.am and I wake up to the sound of thunder, lightning and pouring rain.
Our ‘sunrise watching’ was washed out for sure.

A change of plan was called for. We didn’t want to spend the day cooped up in the room, so we decided as soon as the rain slows down we take off for Bangalore. And that’s what we did. We’ll do Pondy on another, brighter day !

    The Route:
    Puducherry/Kiliyanur/Tindivanam/Gingee/Thirivanamalai/Krishnagiri/Hosur/Bangalore

We took off once the rain slowed to a drizzle. got on to NH-66 towards Tindivanam. It’s a beautiful highway and the rains slowly cleared up. After Tindivanam we pass near the Gingee Fort and after a couple of clicks continue. The traffic was thin up to Thiruvanmalai

After Thiruvanamalai, the roads not so good with too many pot holes. Our friend Biru who had done that route recently had warned us about that stretch but we took it any way since it was the shortest route back.

Just as we hit NH-7 at Krishnagiri, the clouds opened up again and sheets of rain came down. We decided to keep riding and waterproof packed our camera and mobiles. (No more pics !)

As we pass Hosur and near Electronic City we are stuck in the traffic, stop, go, stop, go – a Bangalorean rider’s daily nightmare menu…sigh!! We decide that the first chance we get, we’ll get on the bike and head to a highway, pronto !!

    CHEERS GUYS !!
