  • [Photo Feature]: Riding Restarts - Shivanasamudra & Talakad (near Mysore)

    Where: Talakad and Gaganachukki/Bharachukki Falls
    Route: Mysore - Malavali - Talakad - Malavali - Kanakpura - Bangalore
    Distance : 250 kms approx
    Rides: RTR180 & P220

After 3 longgg months, my weekend shifts finally come to an end and to celebrate that with a ride to Talakad and Shivanasamudra. I was on Diwali vacation for a week and I rode to my home at Mysore. I did not want to ride back in the same old boring Blore-Mys road. I recently drove in a cage through the same route and was pretty surprised seeing the quality of the roads with some superb curves. I knew that I just had to ride there! So I tempted a few friends of mine and offered them home food and Chamundi Hill ride Finally my best buddy Arput accepted the offer

Arput reached Mysore from Bangalore on Saturday evening and I got stuck with some work due to which we had to skip our ride to Chamundi Instead we visited the Dasara Exhibition for some "Bird watching". Sadly no exotic birds that we could spot :bh2: Back home by 10 PM and after a heavy meal, we doze off after a longg chat which was pending since a few months!

We wake up at 6 AM and leave my home at 7 AM. We planned to have or breakfast at Talakad. But before that Arput wanted some proof of his visit to Mysore We stop in front THE palace for a couple of snaps

We dont take much time here and start off and pass through Bannur and Malavalli. We took a left at Malavalli and the new widing roads begin! I wanted to click a few pics but the road was too inviting and ended up not stopping on the road! The road goes beside many lakes... we just had to stop for a mini-photoshoot

We almost reached Talakad when we saw some cars parked by the river-side! All excited, we turn towards that through a small road only to find people having their bath (as if they never had bath in the last 10 yrs ) Disappointed that we couldnt get to click pics, we left the place. After riding for a few meters I keep admiring the river when I find this amazing deserted place with a temple like structure facing the river. Perfect!

    .
But the Perfect place turned out to be the villagers' wash basin with people coming to the river to brush their teeth and what not. That is when we HAD TO leave the place. We then reached Talakad Temples at around 9:30 and had a tasty breakfast in one of the mess at the place. We decided to explore the famous sandy dunes. That turned about to be a tiring exercise. The sand is so soft that you cannot walk on it.

    A hugeee bee-hive...

and Arput gained a few followers!

    .

We decide to skip the temples as neither of us were keen to remove the shoes and we started off to the Chukkis planning to reach the place without any stops. But the route is so scenic that we just had to stop a couple of times en-route...
    .
At the exit of Talakad we could see a never-ending landscape of green farm lands.

An then a historic bridge across the river..

We reached Bharachukki at around 11am and my clicking frenzy started! No matter that this is my third visit here, but this place is so damn beautiful then I just cannot stop! We climb down the steep stairs to have a good view of the waterfalls. We were keen to ride in the Theppa but riding back all wet was a bad idea, so skipped it!

After a cup of tea and feeding cucumber to our tummies and the monkeys' too, it was time for to ascend the steps, that too with sun on our heads and me wearing the dreaded DSG Nero! I must have lost atleast 500 gms of my weight through sweating. Thankfully I knew this would be the case and so carried lots of water to drink! After a tiring climb we reach our bikes and started off towards Gaganachukki.

Another beautiful place, another clicking spree

Sadly it was time to return to the polluted Bangalore, we had some refreshing sugarcane juice and rode back through the amazing and dangerous roads of Kanakpura to reach Bangalore at about 2 PM.

Beautiful Pictures there. I think that Bridge can be seen in a lot of Kannada Movies.
