    DAY 11: 14th September, 2011 – ZingzingBar to Kulu

It was another beautiful morning. The place stunned me when I opened my tent.

What a great place to wake up to.

That is the tent where I spent my night. I was happy that I l had lost fuel yesterday. Else I would have definitely rode past this place as my target was a little farther away.

When the morning bliss slowly calmed down. The same question again. What about the fuel? Some suggested there was a small shop about 5 kilometres from here. You may find some fuel in black. There is also Darcha in about 30 Kilometres where again you just have to hope that they have some in black. Else the last hope is Tandi about 60 kilometres ahead where I can find a Petrol pump.

But today I was not much concerned about the fuel. The morning vistas did their job by cheering me up. Worst case; I may have to walk to Darcha or find a lift or something to Tandi to fetch fuel back.

So I started my ride, by gliding down the slope only occasionally starting the bike.

Soon I reached Darcha and my luck was still smiling at me. I found fuel.

I immediately recognized the bridge below at Darcha. On my last trip, the bridge was broken and we had to ride down and across the river below. But this time, the bridge looks fine and dandy.

Ah. Petrol Station at last. It says the next station is 365 Kilomtres ahead. But that is if you take the Tanglang La route. The route that I took via Nyoma and Chushul was more than 500 Kilometres ahead.

But no worries now. All’s well that ends well.

After so many days I was riding through pleasant green and blue images. The altitude was reducing and that made vegetation appear. Adding to that the little bit of snow that was left on top of some peaks near Rothang La made the view stunning.

Once again, I was climbing up. Climbing up the Rothang La.

That’s Rothang in the clouds. This pass is either covered in snow or in clouds all throughout the year.

I had my lunch on top. Although it was a beautiful place, there was a lot of crowd around. I for some reason was not able to adjust to the crowd after being alone or with very less people around for most of the days. Also, the chicks with jeans and tops were back after days of admiring the beauty of the pahadis in their simple traditional attires.

The last point above was not a complaint. It was a win-win situation.

I gave the guy a nice little bath above. I was also a little jealous. He had more pictures in this trip than me.

Spot the man flying into the clouds below.

The roads were getting better after Rothang. I was back to scratching my knees along the curves.

I reached Kulu pretty early in the evening. Found myself a room to crash, cleaned up and ventured out to see Kulu. It was a pretty little down. With one big street running through the middle. They had pretty efficient traffic management system. Walked around the town, gave my bike a good waterwash, spent some time at a temple and gurudwara, bought myself a T shirt to compensate for the loss of one a few days ago while camping at the Lake, tasted many local made foods on the way and finally crashed on my bed.

      DAY 12: 15th September, 2011 – Kulu to Shimla

I did not stop much today. I kept riding on and on. I wanted to spend a lot of time in Shimla. But the constant rains made me stop quite frequently later in the day and slowed down my speed as well. I did not want to take my camera out and risk water seepage. But it was fun bending down every corner with a fear if I would skid away. But the soft compound IRC Tyre was doing a great job sticking to the tarmac.

I reached Shimla by around 5 I guess. Phew, it was hard to keep my eye on the road when there were so many distractions all around. I just have to reiterate what I said two years ago. This place is holds some of the best goods in the country.
I did my usual routine in Shimla as well. Freshened up and went for a walk around the city. Most of the small streets over the hills here are blocked for traffic. You just have to walk across long distances. Now that explains the reason for some beautiful legs from the hills.
I was roaming around for nearly 4 hours. I ended my day with a visit to the Mall road where I purchased a couple of hats and fed myself with some yummy chicken after so many days.

DAY 13: 16th September, 2011 – Shimla to New Delhi

Another day of just riding. Slowly as I was approaching Chandigarh, I bid goodbye to the hills and was riding back on 4 lane, dead straight and boring highway all the way to New Delhi.
Today is my birthday, I finally crossed over to the other side of 27. There was not much excitement in me as it was also the day of my best friend’s wedding. The kind of stubborn and arrogant ass that I was, I was hell bent on taking this trip as I knew it would not be possible for a next time soon. I did make it up to him to some extent for my absence with nice gift later on.

        The Journey Ends

To the reason I mentioned at the start that kindled the thought of a solo ride; did this trip solve all the problems? No. It didn't. It was never meant to in the first place. But what it can do is give you some breathing space and wobble that little brain inside your skull, make it to have a look at your life through a different view. Now that is something I can hope for.

No. That salute is not for me. But for this wonderful place and people who took me for a ride for the past couple of weeks. May this land and the people it holds remain the same for as long as time exists.

And also a big salute to this guy below, who did not even come close to letting me down no matter what. His body was threatened to split into half midway on the trip. He still continued dancing his way throughout. He rode for nearly 5 days on a flat tyre. Came very close to running out of fuel, but he did not. He was right there with me. No matter how cold the night was, in the morning when I inserted that key and switched on the button, He roared right away without a single hitch.

Autobot : Aaaawww, that was so nice. I love you.
Me : Ew. Just shut up.

That was a great log and an even more wonderful tour. Ah, the creativity of the Pen (a keyboard here actually) .... Enjoyed every bit of it. Right from the Conversation, to the fun with the little kids and those trails at the very edge of our great country....

@Ananz: One of the best road trips and the travelogue I have ever come across! Splendid job with the words, Daring one with the trip and narrative with the pics.

It really takes a lot to take a route like this and considering none but nature as your true companion. Salute to your spirit dude!

I have seen your bike for the first time and I can understand the name Autobot. It suits well to it.

                            Nice trip brother! Ride safe.
