  • [Photo Feature]: A 450 km day trip to Yana

    Prologue:
Since long time, I have never been to long drives. Short trips of 100 kms were not fulfilling my expectations. Being a member of a couple of bikers club and thanks to Facebook, I was getting invitations for tripping but nothing was materializing. Suddenly, I planned for this ride and posted it in one of the biking club's forum. We zeroed down on this ride to Yana. So, here we are: Blitzkrieg(the biking club) of Mangalore riding to Yana.
We had three bikesne Bajaj Avenger, one Honda CBR250 and one Royal enfield TBTS (owned by yours truly ).

    Teaser Photos:
    My ride: TBTS

            Continue...

Sorry for being a bit late. Was down withe fever during new year time, thanks to a mid-night braking practice (alone, unplanned and crazy??) in NH-66..

So, as we left Suraktal, the bad road and diversions crept in. Too many diversions and followed by horrible stretches in between. I had to stop somewhere near Mulki to fuel up my vehicle. Surprisingly, a jumbo size petrolpump did not accept Credit card. Thank god I had Cash with me.

Just when the darkness got over, we entered Udupi. We avoided getting into the temple town and continued towards Kundapura. I had been to Udupi and Manipal during my MBA days and have fond memories attached to it. Anyways, we moved on.

            Photocaps: Somewhere near Udupi

In no time, we have crossed Udupi and found our way to Kundapura. I must say, the early morning Sunrise time is the best time to visit this place. It gives me a feeling of Rural Bengal where I have spent a substantial part of my life. The smell of fresh wind of the morning, the dull appearance of the sun through dense fog: in toto, mesmerizing!!

Photocaps: Sun rising through fogs (in between Udupi and Kundapur)

            Foggy Sunrise:

And the Bird: I am the bird, thunderbird:Love you KA-19ED-1860

This area is infamous for boulevard of Large Trucks, hence I revved up the throttle and in another 15 minutes, I was in Kundapura. Maximum speed in this stretch was 120 kmph and the bird was quite stable at it for atleast 20 seconds. I have done on a beautiful 4-lane stretch near Kundapura.

Jaw dropped Still at Maravanthe and way to go... Get fast into Yana and bring on the pics mate... Stop editing and get it naturally, Cannot wait anymore...

Mouth watering and throttle opening ride mate... How did the TB perform in Yana? Offroading?

Has Yana changed? Last time visited there i could find only one shop before 2 km from where we had offroading experience? Is the stream still alive? Temple?

Eagerly waiting for the next set and please do not delay.

                  Moving ahead...

The road in between Marwanthe and Murudeshwara was double laned and I was keeping my Bullet constant at 70-80kmph to enjoy the surroundings. Couple of curves, barren lands and railway tracks close to the road were significantly observed, felt and enjoyed by yours truely.

                  Near Murudeshwara

                  Greenery on the way

                  Choose Yana or Gokarna:
                  I have chosen Yana

Just before we took the diversion towards Yana

                  TBTS:

As we took the diversion toward Yana near Kumta, the road got narrow. We faced more number of turns and curves, though I must say, the road was pretty good. We stopped in between to buy water and dry food.

                  Bull with its female counterpart

                  The shop out there

We could not click any more photos till Yana. The road was under maintenance. Some stretches were pretty good followed by some pathetic stretches, and hence, we had to slow down every now and then. My Thunderbird's chain started giving a "tak-tak" sound all on a sudden. The most painful part was the dustlike particles which filled up the road to Yana (Almose 2kms from the destination). Added to that, there were few big tourist buses which came along this small roadway. The refreshing sound of stream made it clear that we are pretty close to the destination.

                    the end

As we reached Yana, we parked the bikes a near the small shop out there. We have put our backpacks over there and carried minimal things with us and moved on. The trail was pretty easy to follow as its apparent from the picture below:

A small stream was flowing parallel to our pathway. It was small but nice. We could see many people getting down there. We continued moving on while we saw the prologue of rock formation of Yana. Watch out the rock formation at the left hand side:

                    More of rock formation

The small stream at the side, sorry for the picture quality:

Check out the stream crossing out way:

The source code of the stream:

All these streams were meeting with a major one at the right side(facing towards Yana) of the road.

We were mesmerized with the butterflies out there. They were mostly roaming around in a gang. This one caught my attention. Alone, and stick on a slippery surface where water was pouring continuously

We stopped in front of the temple on the way

After climbing through the stairs out there, we reached out destination: Yana. Waoh..what an amazing natural rock formation....truely worth traveling so far

                    God's very own creation

                    Some not-so-known flowers:

                    Just fitting into my height:

                    Rocks within rocks:

The amazing coccum that was available at the shop near Yana. Truely, heavenly one.

Before signing off from this Yana ride, I would like to mention the name of a passionate person whom I met on my way back: Mr Pandurang Shinde. This cyclist is on a 3000km bi-cycle odyssey Pune-Kanyakumari-Pune. He is riding for a anti-tobacco cause. I met him at Marawanthe and invited him for a night-stay at my place on next day. Its really encouraging to meet such kind of people who are driven by passion and cause.

Hope you had a nice time visiting this space. This is SRC signing off from Yana ride. Will be back shortly with my next trip: Ratnagiri. Till then, adieu.
