  • Dakshin Darshan!

    Hi guys,

After close to 10 long years in the IT industry and I am now knocking on the doors of a job that I yearned for all this while. I have been offered a 'Sales' profile with a start-up in Pune. My new employer is happy to let me choose when to join which gives me the whole of February to do things that I've been planning for a while.
    1. A solo ride
    2. A family trip (Mt. Abu and Udaipur with wifey and kiddo)

The family trip, as expected, is already planned. Its time now to nail the solo ride :-). So, here is my tentative route.

Pune, Maharashtra to Panaji, Goa - 434
Panaji, Goa to Udupi, Karnataka - 323
Udupi, Karnataka to Mangalore, Karnataka - 62
Mangalore, Karnataka to Kozhikode, Kerala - 237
Kozhikode, Kerala to Cochin, Kerala - 203
Cochin, Kerala to Allepey, Kerala - 53
Alleypey, Kerala to Trivandrum, Kerala - 152
Trivandrum, Kerala to Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu - 86
Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu to Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu - 85
Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu to Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu - 217
Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu to Tanjore, Tamil Nadu - 239
Tanjore, Tamil Nadu to Pondicherry, Pondicherry - 175
Pondicherry, Pondicherry to Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu - 100
Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu to Bangalore, Karnataka - 335
Bangalore, Karnataka to Hubli Karnataka - 413
Hubli Karnataka to Pune, Maharashtra - 424
    3538

A total of close to 3500 kms (on a month old Classic 500) from 3rd February to 16th February (14 days). I haven't planned the ride details like where to stop and how much to travel in a day and various other things.

Now, even though its a solo ride, I'm not averse to having company. So, if anyone from this amazing community is interested to join me, let me know via a pm. I'm happy to do all the logistical planning for the entire journey. I have a fairly good experience doing long rides so this should not too overwhelming.

I have tried to tick all the key places that I'd like to visit. Given the time constraint, I've had to let go off a few places.

I'd also love to meet fellow xbhpians enroute as and when time permits. I'll post a detailed ride plan when I get around that.

    Cheers.

Instead of the regular NH17 from Mangalore to Kochi, if you want a different experience do this...

Mangalore, Karnataka, India to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps

Though will take additional 4-5 days, but, I'm sure you'll enjoy to fullest riding in the Western Ghats.

Since you're going till Udipi, why not ride through Kudremukh National Forest? Give a thought

PS - Any 'Must visit' places that I can remember, I'll post it here as it will help everyone; nothing to PM

Thanks mate. I wish I had the luxury of extra time. If I take that luxury it jeopardises my family trip which as I mentioned earlier is planned and there is no value in fighting it out with the Home Ministry to change the dates for that ;-). I'll keep Kudremukh National Forest in mind. I am yet to chalk out the details which I intend to do this entire work week. Hopefully, the blueprint should be ready by Friday COB.

            Cheers.
