  • 400 KM ride and a Tragedy which turned a Group into a Family

    Tragedy Strikes 17:00 Hrs.
We all moved back and on the way saw Sid waving frantically along with him saw Ishit as well. No signs of JV or Souvik, I thought one of these 2 ran out of fuel, there was quite a gathering of local villagers and there was a bike there as well, never ever thought anything else. Got off the bike and Sid was like they took JV and Souvik went with him, I was like what is going on. For a while I could not make any sense of what he was saying. Then the picture started to get clear, JV had an accident and the funny looking bike was his, I was SHOCKED my JAWS DROPPED looking at his bike, the first thing I saw was the grab rail which was totally pressed into the seat, the seat raised up from the tank side, then I looked around and saw pieces of plastic laying all over the place, then went up front WTF no lights left no Meter console left the bike was totaled, there was no way someone could have survived such a crash.

BUT WAIT WE ARE IN A DESERT and there is absolutely nothing that could hit him, there was nothing he could have hit, what went wrong, how did this happen, how is JV, is he ok, where is he, is he ALIVE, any broken bones what is going on, someone please explain. I could not understand anything Sid was telling me, so I took Ishit for a walk all the while looking on the floor for clues and debris which was lying everywhere. Ishit showed the spot from where his bike flew and he lost control, the bike must has tumbled a few times and the spot he showed me as a good 20 meter away, how could this happen, that too JV for whom we could easily say "NO ROAD IS GOOD ROAD" he loosing control and falling. Now that Ishit told all he had to I asked about JV and he said he was ok and that he was transported to Kot the nearest village in a Chagda, a chagda is a 3 wheeler loading tempo or mini truck build from old recovered Deisel Bullet Engines. Souvik had gone along with him to make sure he got proper Medical assistance.

My blood almost dried up, I did not know what to do for a while, touched the bike felt the peices of debri lying around picked up the key and kept it in my pocket, decided to remove all the petrol as we did not know how long it would take to find some sorts of transportation to get the bike out of there. slowly started removing petrol and got Sunny ready to lead the group out of the dessert and to the safety of the village and to give company to JV and Souvik, Sid as low on fuel as well so gave him all the fuel I could salvage from RX then waved them off with instructions to Sunny to find JV and Souvik, find some means of transport to get the bike out to the village. Ashik, Parth and myself waited for the group to call back, I asked Parth to wait as he was the only guy who was getting decent network, but he proved me than handy. Once the group left we were back salvaging fuel from the bike, got almost 700 Ml of it and then there was like no more fuel left, the locals barring just one small kid had all left. Ashik was like lets get the bike started and move it out of here, initially with a plan to just kick push it out. Ashik and myself decided to talk to the kid if he could help us with our plan, in came Parth as he was the only one who could convince him to do so, he refused even after repeated request. Now what to do, wait till the transport arrives, what if no transport arrives. The Shadows were getting longer and wait felt even longer. Ashik again came to me and like common both the tires are moving freely lets try to get the bike started. The bike was in gear so tried to put it in neutral but the foot peg was so damaged and bent that it was blocking the free movement of the gear lever, there was no way to get the bike into neutral, what to do, the only way we could get the bike to safety was if we could somehom manage to get the gear lever moving again.
We need to straighten the foot get just a bit and needed a hammer for that. No hammer no issues, found a big stone which was painted white as a road marking, took that and banged in the foot peg a few times there we were the gear lever was free got the bike into neutral. These were scenes directly out of the Survivour series. In the middle of nowhere having to do things the most premitive way possible. Now we had a bike in neutral with supposedly no fuel what so ever. Ashik and Parth adamant on getting the bike started. They both starte working on the bike with Ashik kicking the HELL out of it, there we had the bike roared and then died again, roared and died again like dying tiger. One last chance there we had it the sweet sound of the RX, now we left Parth to look after Adriana while Ashik drove the Cafe Racer like fully bruised and broken RX and myself on my tried and tested P220 trailing him, the bike almost pulled its own weight to the end of the dessert and stalled, I was like ah now we have to push it out, but wait again the bike belongs to JV, it can't just die like that, it was like the never die spirit of the Biker getting into bike as well, I have heard that your bike behaves just like you do and today saw it with my own eyes. SAKSHAT nazro ke saamne, Ashik kicks the bike and it roars again and never stops till we see the group waving to us. The bike with supposedly no fuel what so ever had made it out of the desert alive and to the relative safety of the village where the group was working to broker a deal with a transport guy to get the bike back to Ahmedabad.

Neil and Chintan had to leave as it was getting very late, so I asked Tejas bhai to take responsibilty of a group of 4 bikers which also included Ishit, and to leave me a message as soon as they reached home.

With little time to spare Ashik and myself replenished our water stock and headed back into the Desert leaving our back packs behind taking just one bottle of water with us this time to get Adriana back and also Parth, who was like the lone survivour, I can't even imagine what must have been going through his mind, standing there in the middle of nowhere, no one to talk to, nothing to see, the setting sun, time limits from home long long expired. We found him however in a jolly mood. It was already almost 6:00 PM now and Parth was very very anxious to get back home I could understand his anxiety. We rehydrated ourselves and then moved out headed towards the village to regroup.

In no time we were there and without wasting any further time we were off to Dhangadhra and then to Ahmedabad, after crossing Dhrangadhra we saw a petrol bunk and stopped to refuel, had to take some cash from Ashik as I did not even have that much to get back to Ahmedabad, that is why riding in a group is always safe. Souvik and JV needed to get back to Ahmedabad ASAP where as we guys were hungry and were planning to stop somewhere for some snacks. So JV and Souvik went on behind Parth who was already on his way to Ahmedabad as he had sufficient fuel to reach home.

Sunny, Ashik, Sid and myself got fresh, check tire pressures and then headed off to Ahmedabad albeit with a short break for Coffee and snacks.

The day ended in the dark just as it had started off. With stars shining down on us and the moon happily smiling coz it knew that a group had now turned into a FAMILY, the different peices of a Zigsaw were now tied by a bond which will be very difficult to break.

    Lots of lessons learned.

Importance of riding gear, especially helmets just came out in the open in a very very rude way but I am sure this incident will save more lives in the future.

Huge thanks to everyone in the group for the support. I don't know how we would have managed if each and every one of my brothers had not kept their cool, each and every member of the FAMILY too responsibility and completed the task entrusted to them with utmost care. LOVE YOU ALL.

I was in the lead, JV was the one who enjoyed the lack of roads the most

Jaiveer Sachania who was there just to see us off also joined in on his Rx100 with a assumption that we would be back by around 11 am.

Jaiveer Sachania is the name but we all call him JV, he is a true Off-Roading Maniac.

I was leading as I knew the roads to take but JV would keep shooting ahead of me.

There was one more incident I forgot to mention. We were all in the middle of LRK enjoying ourselves when an Indica with some lovely ladies in the back seat stopped. The driver started asking us all sorts of questions but the loudest of sounds which were unheard were "PARTH PARTH PARTH". On the other hand we could hear Parth say "NON SENSE, Yaha to mera picha chodo"

i saw the tragedy happen...and had JV not been a bit bruised, I was gonna give him a nice sweet punch !!!

"Oh man, it was Awesome" were his words immediately after the accident.

This is true off-roading! BTW, what was it that was the culprit of the fall? A small boulder, a deep rut?
