  • <One Day trips around Coimbatore - Just for biking!> CBE-Athirapally-CBE

This is going to be my first ever Tlog, and the first one here in XBHP too.

Hope, even one day Tlogs are allowed too, cause, after all everything is about biking, right?

This was my dream trip from the day i got a bike for myself.

    Coimbatore-Pollachi-Valparai-Sholayar-Athirapally-Chalakudy-Palakkad-Coimbatore
One day, 380 kms, two commuter bikes, and four bikers!
and forgot, damn, 150+kms of beautiful bluemountain forests!

Hope you guys will like it!

Bring it on mate...Although you would have experienced Chronic Spinal Stenosis when travelling from Sholayar to Athirapalli, it will all vanish once the falls is within the eye sight...

              waiting for the detailed log..

btw when was this trip done? I did the exact same thing on Apr 5 and 6th but on a car.. saw a few geared riders, was it you guys?
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

                Start!

I was urging my friends to take on this trip, but none was ready as i have told them it involves a long ride in mountain forests!

It all started when a friend of mine asked me to accompany him to Pollachi and the next moment, a couple more of us joined. It was 7 in the morning, and already we were 'cruising' at 60 towards pollachi! Finished his work there at 9 and from there went to Aliyar dam, and somehow they accepted my offer to Athirapally!

We reached Valpaarai at around 12 and sholayar at 1 30 PM after having tea and vadai at a shop en route to sholayar! Believe me guys, the taste was superb, and each vadai is only 2 rupees. The grandpa was more generous to give us each a couple more free of cost!

The road till Valpaarai is okay! and to sholayar in a bit o k !

After sholayar, we were shocked to see a check post. Thought they were going to stop us from entering, but there was a check for plastics. Every plastic bag in the vehicle is noted down, and we were given a slip to be handed over to the other side of the forest. They said it is a plastic free zone for the next 80 kms or so! <though, it was not> but, we were more concerned not to drop anything!

                Then, started the ride!

                .... <to be continued>

Spare the pics! It was my nokia, as it was a surprise trip!

The famous polling booth of Satyaraj Tamil film, 'amaithipadai'. It is actually the dam control room!

                Riders chilling themselves a bit!

View of Aliyar reservoir, Half full.. from 13 th hairpin en route to Valpaarai, I guess!

                The Upper Sholayar reservoir!
Damn summer! it is not even half!

                The other side stretch!

The shutter! It was a dry summer!

Actually, they have improved it a lot!
The work was on progress! and the laid road was really superb. Though hardly of the width of a truck, but was nice and smooth!

                            Apology!

                            Hey guys,

Sorry for the great delay in continuing the thread!

Was in the feelings and crying sessions as my college life came to an end last week! Also, was on a little trip.

So, you can expect the completion of the log in a couple of days after I get to my hometown.

                            Thanks for the replies!

                              Here we go!

Sorry guys, was unable to attend the forum for the month! Seems to have a lot happened! Will check the forum regularly!

Here is the continuation of the log!

Then, after we crossed the check post, started the dense forests!
It was the first time ever had an opportunity to ride in such dense places, and it was awesome!

Probably, 15 mins past the check post, we saw a group of villagers running towards us, and as we reached them, they didn't stop at us even. We then asked one, whats the problem and he said there is a heard of 13 elephants down the second hairpin from there!

"Oh! Shit!", that was our only exclamation!

Though, we didn't stop at anything, and as we neared the turn, we were able to see the forest is dancing! Guess, the elephants moved in!

but, luckily we were able to spot a baby elephant a little deep in the forest from the roads and also saw its mom a little deep in!

Then, we reached lower Sholayar reservoir, had a little photo shoot and then headed towards Athirapally. We reached the falls at around 4:30pm and had a bath and clicked some photos!

Started from there at around 6, we reached our college hostel at Coimbatore around 8:30 pm via, chalakudy, thirusur bye-pass and palakkad bye-pass.

                              PICS!!

The start of the deep forests!

A little scary for a novice!

Roads that lead into dark caves of leaves and trunks!

                              The baby!

                              Lower Sholayar!

                              The lovely blue mountains!

                              At vazhachal!

                              Dip at Athirapally!

                              The Niagara of India!

                              The team!

                              Thanks for reading guys!
Be sure to leave any comments for improvements!
