  • Hyd-Medak trip 225km

i did this trip a week ago but got time to write about it only nw..... so here goes.......

The hot summer had passed by and i had been itching to do my first long ride on my enfield Thunderbird. What better time than the monsoon season, especially when the sky is covered with clouds and not a drop of rain ?

I had been preparing myself for this first ride since quite some time. Gathering data after going through various travelogues on this very forum, i finally got myself a cramster tank bag and probiker gloves. I had already checked out the route to go to medak on Google Maps, many thanks to Google for dat! Suitably equipped, i started out for the ride with my friend on a cloudy saturday morning.

After filling up d bike at the d petrol bunk, my fuel filler cap decided to throw a tantrum. I spent a good part of the next half hour wrestling it into place....... this being done, we finally hit the road.

The Route: Hyd -> Chegunta - nearly 50km of NH9 goodness....... well paved roads and almost no traffic to worry about after crossing Medchal, and then had to take a diversion from the NH to go to Chegunta.

Chegunta -> Medak - roughly 30km distance, freshly laid two lane road with less traffic and a lot of undulations. Its fun 2 ride on this road! There is a single laned stretch though, where its not as much fun.

Medak -> Pocharam reservoir - again a godly two laned road flanked by lush vegetation (probably due to recent rains!) on which we just let the bike rip!

Places of interest in Medak town are the rather deserted Medak fort, it has a rather good road leading upto it though and a huge Church. Google came to my aid while deciding places of interest. The fort is well worth seeing, it is in fairly good condition but the place is very much overgrown with plants and trees. There are very few buildings in the fort with the significant exception of a bathing area. We were able to get a good view of the town from the top of the fort though. Our visit to the fort was marred by a bad experience however when i discovered that my bike's petrol tank had been drained dry. As it was a downhill ride, we thankfully did not have much problem going to the nearby petrol bunk.

Medak church is quite striking when viewed from the entrance. Photography is banned inside the church, otherwise the three stained glass paintings inside the church are a visual treat and surely deserve to be captured on reel. Apart from this, the church has little else to offer. We then rode to Pocharam national park which is around 15km away from the town. We were turned back by the park authorities who refused to allow us to go inside on foot as the wild pigs in the forest are apparently biting tourists. 4 wheelers are allowed but they were not organizing any safaris either. Disappointed thus, we headed on to the nearby reservoir. Spent like a 30min there and then started back towards hyderabad.

In all, it was a thrilling ride and left us with a feel-good feeling, except for the petrol theft incident. The weather was simply awesome and other than slight drizzle at times, it did not rain as i had feared. The return leg of the journey with a 15 min break thrown in between took us nearly 2 hours. At the end of it all though, both myself n my friend were left with quite sore bottoms! dunno how so many guys go out on 1000km roadtrips........ would like to know the secret behind their endurance !

Now, i'd have much preferred if i could simply let the pics do the talkin bt as im still tryin 2 figure it out, will put 'em up as soon as i do

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
