with no more teasing for such short ride i am taking you directly to the main course of the trip log directly... would love to have your comments on it for future log improvements.//

hello friends, hope you are enjoying the monsoons........
Actually i was planning to go for long ride after my Pune - Knyakumari trip in April this year, but never got a chance to do it, due to office work and busy routine schedule. this month had a chance to take 2 days off from office after 15th Aug, followed by Saturday and Sunday weekend, to make the 5 days trip to Vidharbha region. like said initially planned to go for 5 days ride, but then again i had to drop the plan due to some reasons and had to rework it out for 1 Day only..
but not living with regrets i made my mind to head towards Aurangabad, and enjoy the most of the places around in best possible ways withing time limit. Aurangabad is the gateway to the World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora, surrounded by various historic places, like Khultabad, Doulatabad, Ghrishneshwar temple..etc etc. so i ended up my trip visiting Devgad (Dattatraya Sansthan) en route towards Aurangabad, Aurangabad city, Ellora Caves, Doultabad fort and Ghrishneshwar temple.. returned home on same day i.e 15th Aug.and hence named the thread "Independence day ride."

    14th Aug 12:
It was a usual day at office, while doing regular office, gathered some information about roads, hotels, destinations, distances, took print outs of maps. at 5.30pm swapped out from office, rushed to home picked up necessary item, bike registration papers.. got refreshed myself, checked bike's functional parts, lubricated chain, checked all control cables, brakes, geared up myself and found myself ready to roll.. when i saw my wrist watch the needles were almost touched 7.00 pm, so thought better i could hurry up and start rolling, meanwhile one of my closest friends Shailesh came to see me off, after discussing my plan with him he advised me to take short route towards shikrapur through Alandi, which joins Pune- Aurangabad highway later. he guided me till dighi and returned home, that was quite a short route to bypass Pune's traffic in lesser time, after doing 25~27kms finally joined to Pune- Aurangabad highway, went on and tanked up in Indian oil petrol pump, petrol outside Pune city cost lesser, it costed me 72.6.
Pune- Ahmednagar- Aurangabad highway (SH 27 and SH 66) is in good condition with not so much of heavy vehicle density. and without any potholes, it makes a ride/drive worthwhile maintaing good speeds, it means that i can cruise all the way without any hassle maintaining 80~90kmph constantly.
as soon as i left Shikrapur, i reached Ahmednagar.. i reached there by 9.00pm, i haven't realized when i covered 105 kms distance in such short time.after reaching there i found myself without much cash, was not carrying enough money so searched for ATM and withdrawn some cash for further expenses, meanwhile i asked security person about the nearby budget hotel/lodges to stay. he told me about hotel Ambika, without wasting much time in thinking i went to the hotel, inquired, surprised to see room fare with well maintained cleanliness, it costed only 300 Rs. for one night. so checked in happily, kept my luggage inside room went for dinner. after a simple dinner of daal-roti at nearby dhaba, came back to room and slept...

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Part II: Doulatabad Bypass, Ellora caves, Ghrishneshwara temple.

pardon me guys for xtra time i took for putting II part in front to you. nevertheless sometimes we say 'better late than never.. '

                    ^greenery greenery everywhere..

ok, coming back to the parking at Biwi ka Maqbara, i recollected my belongings from the hotel, it was quite a hot so had 1 frooty and cold water. thanked owner for keeping eye on my luggage, while i was away. it was then 11.30, i decided to head towards Ellora caves, which are 30 kms away from aurangabad city, also if i get time i've decided to take halt at Doulatabad fort,
The place, was once as known as Deogiri, people believe that this is the only fort, the great maratha Warrior Shivaji failed to win, i was wondering how come he wasn't able to conquer it? after taking road towards Ellora, i found it very crowdy on road, may be due to national holiday, it has took me 20mins to reach at doulatabad fort foothills, the first sight and i was like wondering how come one can win the until and unless he has optional way to peep in, Doultabad fort has been constructed in the manner that you can enter in from only one gate, and rest of the side are chiseled to depth upto 100 or more feet.. the fort is defended by moat and glacis running around the hill at its foot besides the most complex and intricate defense system.. indeed it is one of the must visit place in maharashtra but reconsidering the time and distance to cover on going back i decided to left that fort for some anther time, also it was very crowdy and flooded with people that even i struggled to find a place to park my bike.. after spending couple of moments at the roadside and clicking some few picture i started towards ellora.

from doulatabad fort Ellora is merely 15 kms away. you have ride through a short ghat section which gives you the couple of nice picturesque views of Sahyadri hills.

on the way you will also one huge corner, almost half of the 360 degrees, every bikers dream would be cherished 100000 times while passing by it, you want to do it again and again and again...

omg it's 12 in the noon, i rush towards the Ellora..

i made it the Ellora caves at 12.30 pm, as usual this place is also crowded and annoyed me for some few minutes as those barking muv's and tiny cars with heftily loaded cages started honking at me since i was stopped the main gate looking at the map. you can find so many local people selling route maps and info guide books on ellora and ajanta caves, one of them came to me and asked to buy one, with so much of requesting by him i agreed to buy onne small book on one condition, that he has to keep an eye on my bike with luggage while i get the ticket from ticket window. and he agreed..
he also told me that there is no locker rooms, but you can keep your baggage at cafeteria by paying him 20.. without much waste of time i made it to the cafeteria and relaxed myself and bike for some ten mins. kept my bag, had cup of tea, got refreshed for further exploration. by the time i reached Ellora it was almost got cloudy and shadowy with mild~cool breeze flowing in its own rhythm carrying the flora fauna of 1000 yrs old history. i was more than be pleased to be in that environment after long long time.

i open the guide book and read first line from first chapter: "Ellora Caves - finest example of cave temples with almost 34 caves with intricate interiors and ornamental facades." it wasn't took much time to understand the meaning of the first line and get myself aligned with the history that was i am going to unfold within next 1hour, 2 hr, 3 hr...or may be i even didn't know!

second line was like : "Ellora, with its uninterrupted sequence of monuments dating from A.D. 600 to 1000, brings the civilization of ancient India to life. Not only is the Ellora complex a unique artistic creation and a technological exploit but, with its sanctuaries devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, it illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India." OMG its getting too much of interesting to read rather than to see it in actual. i spend almost 45 mins to read the rest of the things, some thing i understood some things gone tangentially with my petrol-head brain..but nonetheless as much as i learned about it, it was worth to read...

These 34 monasteries and temples, extending over more than 2 km, were dug side by side in the wall of a high basalt cliff, with its uninterrupted sequence of monuments dating from AD 600 to 1000, brings the civilization of ancient India to life. Not only is the Ellora complex a unique artistic creation and a technological exploit but, with its sanctuaries devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, it illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India.

i spend almost 5 to 10 mins to every cave, reading about it and exploring then the history, became an interesting activity... for me. i saw many thing there, i saw current human beings, trying to click as much as pictures ahead each of every structure, posing in their unique style,

i saw young fellows roaming and creaming in the empty caves, i saw some foreign tourists listening to the Indian guide, who was unfolding the history in foreign language, even i saw colorful rainbow in the sky, vivid colors of mother earth, greenery wilderness of the birds, so many things started happening around me... but still i was just searching for the perfect scene to get my concentration on it. ... until then..............

i didn't know the exact cave number, it must be the 34or 33 may be, from Jainism culture, i was siting all alone inside of the porch right in front of Bhagwan Mahavir's idol, looking at him seating calmly, with mild smile on his face with closed eyes, in ideal padmasana position. he looked more of like happy, calm, silent... slowly slowly i was started to loose my sight or i was unable to focus on surrounding happenings, i was going somewhere, all alone in the middle of nowhere.....i was imagining the efforts of the workers/ people they took while building this monuments, carving they have done, idols they have made, temple they've built...and even lot more that that..our ethics our culture. true Indian spiritual culture nurtured in their times.

after a long visit to the ancient times my heart became heavy with the spiritualism of the place, also it reminded me the greatest unethical ways of demolishing any culture by another, the ruins of the caves and monasteries made me angry for while and also made me feel sorry for them that still even after they have gone or their generations have gone and dissipated into thin air, each and every sculpture is standing still and depicting the ancient ages of the great Indian culture. Ellora is true example of the multi cultural place, where all kind of people lived, nourished their cultures and made themselves live forever and ever and ever in the history of man kind..

let's go inside and have a look:

                    at remaining caves:

after spending hour and half i came back to hotel, had some snacks and recollected my belongings...
by the time clock was ticking close to 5.30 pm and i still have to cover ghrishneswara temple, its near to Ellora caves, some 3~4 kms odd.. here i had not taken any pictures, with my mind became so heavy with what i have gone through some 300~400 centuries. also nothing is looking pleasurable to my eyes now, a parked my bike, went for darshan, it took good 1 hr hour to complete the darshan and to come back to my bike. actually the temple is so beautiful but the trust, devotees have made it so ugly with the flower, prasad stalls and darshan railing, etc etc....

after a quick refreshment at nearby tea stall and phone call to my home made myself ready for non stop 350 kms return journey//
without much stopping with one dinner break post Ahmednagar, reached home, Pune at 12.00 midnight... offloaded myself and baggage from bike and directly crashed to the bed//

to summarize; we have got very pure and noble historical culture, we must try to protect it and preserve it. so that our coming generation will be able recognize themselves for being in the most progressive and developed country we also had and will have remarkable ancient culture. as Ellora conserved as an artistic heritage that will continue to inspire and enrich the lives of generations to come. Not only is this cave complex a unique artistic creation and an excellent example of technological exploit but also, with its sanctuaries committed to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism,
it illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was attribute of historic India.
