Pocharam Lake is a beautiful water reservoir situated in Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary. The peculiarity of this lake is, it has no flood gates to control the water flow; excess water just overflows from the dam, and its a beautiful view. Situated in a mini-forest area, the surroundings are very calm and undisturbing. Bird photographers love this place as the lake attracts a variety of birds in seasons.
Route Map:

Two weeks back, when I was in a 9-day ride to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, I came to know the lake was overflowing. Felt sad for not able to visit it. Luckily, the rain in the last three days again brought lots of inflows into this lake.
Its cloudy in Hyderabad, a perfect climate for a refreshing small ride. The lake is approximately 110 kms from Hyderabad, towards Medak. Started around 10:30 p.m. from my house. Within no time, I was on Narsapur road. Its a two-lane highway with a bit of traffic. The Narsapur forest was in full bloom and thick green. Spent 10 minutes in the forest enjoying the green beauty and then headed for Medak. After Medak, took left turn towards Bodhan. After 15 kms, took a right turn at a Y-junction that leads to a gravel road. After about half-a-kilometer, this scene was in front of me.

I was delighted to see huge waterflow. This is just start of the lake and the main dam was after this dam. I love this place because I can ride in the water, unlike other dams. As I approached near the water, I realized the flow is heavy and was scared to enter into the water. Parked my bike a side and entered into water. The water flow pushed my leg when I tried to move in the flow. Waited for 10 minutes with disappointment. Then all of a sudden I saw a bike parked on the other side of the dam and smile came on to my face. It was all pure fun after this.

Crossed the water body and reached the main Dam. There was heavy overflow and it was a visual treat. You can walk on the dam but with lot of care. People huddle together and walk on this.

Came back to the front of the Dam and explored around to get different views of the lake.

This view shows complete view of the Lake with water overflow at three places. It was a breathtaking view with dark clouds in the background.

At around 3 p.m., saw dark clouds in the backdrop, and felt it was the right time to packup. While I was riding towards Medak, I could see dark clouds looming over Medak and I was worried as I was not prepared for rain. The roads were all wet as it rained before. As I reached Medak, it started to pour and luckily I reached a good Hotel near Medak Church. Had my lunch there watching over the heavy pour. Luckily the rain stopped as soon as I finished lunch and started riding back.
Just after Medak, I saw this view with dark clouds creating an evening atmosphere at noon.

Packed my camera and cell and tucked inside the jacket and started riding. It rained for around 10 minutes, and after that it was dry with just clouds. After around 10 kms, there was no rain and the sun came out. There were lots of paddy fields on either side and with evening Sun rays, it was a visual treat to watch.

Reached home by 6 p.m. At 80 kmph constant, my bike returned 42 kmpl and was pretty happy about it.
