                  Trip Log n Pics

Started from Thane at 6.15am, crossed Panvel McD, entered NH17. Stopped at a bunk to fill our tanks, drove little further and had breakfast at around 9am (pav and omlette).

Then rode on the smooth NH17 with one stoppage in between to turn left from Poladpur towards Mahabaleshwar. I had done this same route when did Goa last month, but this stretch was all covered at night, so the route didnt look familiar to me at all!

40kms left from Poladpur the signboards said. Drove little on the patchy roads and halted under a banyan tree thinking how the ghats ahead would be. And to our dismay they were at their worst! Don't know the name of that ghat, but would love to call them 'Fugly Ghats'.

Those were the worst ghats I've ever rode on, every corner had a beautiful patchwork, averaging around 25kmph on the speedo, we stopped midway for a photoshoot.

Covered the 2nd half of the ghats with just one wish - that I don't want to return the same way, I had an idea there was Pune route and just wished that was doable.

Reached Mahabaleshwar around 1pm, enquired few rooms (MTDC is too much of a family place, so skipped that), settled for a good cottage type room with 4 beds, TV - Rs600 for a night. It was around 1.5kms before the main market/city which was good.

                  Face-off outside the room:

Got freshened up, had lunch and headed for some sight-seeing.

First stop - Venna Lake. As soon as we parked our bikes, saw a film shooting going on, I asked the parking man, "konsa movie" - Charge-sheet(?!!?). "heroin kon hai?" - pata nahi. "ok hero kon hai?" - Dev Anand.
I was like f*** me this man has got some red bull flowing in his blood!

Moved closer to witness the direction of a song sequence, we joined what the crowd was looking at - 'a fair-never seen before-good for one night-so called actress' wearing short shorts, half shirt, generating cleavage with whatever little humps she had.

I just turned around from the crowd and there he was! Mr Red Bull in all his glory wearing the typical Dev Anand cap, under a shelter, looking into the monitor with a mic in his hand, directing. But the crowd didnt care, they were busy enjoying the afternoon delight.

Chilled clicked a few shots here, some revelations took place later which are upto Chilled to share with you guys (only Niranjan other than four of us knows!).

Horse rides were on with each horse having its own pet name on the saddle - romeo, krrish, bobby, chetak, etc. We had this weird idea of standing next to the 'bobby' horse with our legs up in the air as if kicking him and that would make it 'bobbykick'!
Dropped the insanity as sun was getting too much on us and rode further to a hill point where you get an birds' eye view Mahabalashwar/Panchgani hills. Did some photoshooting there (all those pics with Chilled).

On the way down stopped for the ever-famous Strawberry Cream at Bagicha. Now this is 'the only' reason I would ever want to come back to Mahabaleshwar.
For those who don't know the recipe, its in a glass with layers of whipped cream, ice-cream and sliced strawberries. Looks beautiful from the outside and even better inside! Amazing stuff... we all had two glasses each!
Lastly, saw their strawberry farms and and headed back to the room to doze off.

Woke up at 7pm, had plans of roaming around in the market, having dinner, buying booze, back to room, drink and be merry.

                  an ancient bakery I guess..

Spotted a Busa, belonged to a local shop-wala.

ya please do visit, but dont expect any discounts.

                  plenty of similar shops..

                  shopping for drinks!

                  ready to eat dinner!

Scene: we all having dinner in a open type restaurent. That Busa guy comes in his muted beast, parks it in front of our table (as seen in the pic below). That time there were no onlookers on the road. While he was away and we were done with our dinner, few people had gathered and ogling. And we being close to the bike with all our armoured jackets made them believe thats our ride!
Now people are waiting for one of us to get down and start the Busa and make their wait worthy. But what happens is Nuetrino gets down starts clicking the Busa with his mobile and we all walk away! And surely those people would be like - "bloody posers"

Returned back to room with stock of drinks. We could see a provision of bonfire, so me and Vishal went upto the owners room to ask for it. Vishal knocked the door and an old man (Dev Anand age but without red bull) opens.
Vishal: "Uncle room no.9........ aag lagani hai."
Uncle (screaming): "ROOM KO AAG LAGANI HAI!!!!!!"

Both uncle and Vishal looking at me, somehow managed to convince uncle that we want bonfire not housefire.

Now fire was up, drinks were on, but the real tamashaas were yet to happen.

Within 15mins, the fire was losing its strength and all except me were trying hard to keep it alive. I just sat and gave suggestions/ideas like: pour alcohol, spray deo, put cloth in petrol tank n throw, etc. Finally Vishal and Neutrino decided to buy petrol in a bottle, and they were back with 25 rupees of Speed! So we were about to have a bonfire with additives now!

Now this is were all the scary/funny shit starts. Vishal alone was handling the re-fire session with all of us sitting around the 'soon to be up again fire'. Vishal tied a old cloth on a stick, poured little petrol and held the stick over the almost dead fire.
Nothing happened for 10-15secs and I was like "yaar aaj petrol aag kyun nai pakad raha?" and then "VHHOOOOOOOOP" a ball of fire emerged engulfing his wrist. But this fantastic no. 4 did not drop the stick instantly, rather held it for 2-3secs which gave three of us enough time to think of whatever we could about this scene.
I was staring at his hand n screaming in my mind "drop drop dropppp" but telepathy didnt work.
Nuetrino had already made plans for how to handle a hand burn.
And he finally dropped and backed off and safe.

So we got a little more fire.. few more drinks and it was back to single flame.

We were discussing bikes, jobs, n similar stuff when the need to re-re-fire emerged again. Vishal came forward with the left petrol and was about to pour directly over it but the bottle slipped and fell in the fire! It stuck at a 30 degree angle into the fire with its opening facing upwards (thank god for that). We all went berserk and ran away from it screaming "BLAST BLAST BLAST". I climbed over a wall and asked Nuetrino for camera. The tip (opening) had caught fire but surprising it didnt connect with the petrol in the bottom. We were all waiting for that to happen and I was ready with video mode on. Nuetrino got water and aimed right over the tip and it blew off. Vishal still in his firey self came forward, picked up the bottle and poured it over the single flame!! "VVHHHHOOOOOOOOOP" it went up again... and thats all shooted with my cam.

That was it. Last flames, sitting on the bench, enjoying the drink, chatting, selected few discussing their sad job stories.
Ok we all saw shooting stars sitting there!!
                  Me:2 Vishal:3 Nuetrino:1 Chilled:1

Went to bed around 12am, all got 8 hours of sleep, were ready to depart towards Panchgani by 10.30am. Stopped at the market to buy strawberries.

Reached Panchgani, had breakfast at "Dosa Hut", then headed to the only spot Panchgani is famous for - TableLand.

Its a vast plain hill. Clicked few shots. There was already a Bullet group up there (read Indie Thumpers on one's jacket), around 30 of them! They were also photoshooting, and then a scene which I had never witnessed before - Bullets drag racing!!!

Didnt spend much time up there, called up Niranjan to decide for a meeting spot in Pune.

It was all beautiful after Panchgani, the extra-wide roads, the scenic beauty.

Met Niranjan and Satya at CCD Chandni Chowk.. had lunch. Vishal and me stayed as I had to meet up with a friend who had come from Hyd. Nuetrino and Chilled went ahead, reached home before us (obviously!)

Again, the route from Pune side is awesome awesome.

That's all I guess. Comments welcome.
