A trip taken last year with 2 of my close buddies - Nishan (Nicc) and Amitoj (Paaji)
The Preface:
“I am going to Chandigarh in October for Diwali. Anyone wants to join? Am going by road on my Bull!” – said Paaji
(Amitoj). I had just joined a group of riders from Mumbai around 12 hours back on a trip to Mandu in Madhya
Pradesh. We had our butts sore and our body aching after the grueling 14 hours it took us to reach Mandu. But this one invitation from Paaji made us all sit up straight and wonder – Can we make it? One voice almost instantaneously came out with an emphatic YES! We knew who it was! Turned around to see a sparkle in the eyes of Nicc (nishan) who is to be credited with coming up with the noble idea of creating a group which shared a common passion – riding bikes and so rightfully christened – Mumbai Musafirs! So it was set in the first ten seconds. It was going to be Paaji and NIcc and whosoever wanted to join them. Yours truly was still contemplating the invitation. Went back home to Mumbai, visited Baroda and Kerala and came back to Mandu in those ten seconds and finally said yes. I too was to go on this trip to Chandigarh alongwith Paaji and NIcc!
Once we were back from Mandu the real planning started. Paaji teased us with the tentative route plans and places we would be seeing. JAI GOOGLE!! The entire trip now came to life. Mumbai – Baroda – Udaipur – Jaipur –
Chandigarh – Nangal – McLeod Ganj – Dharamsala – Dalhousie – Wagah _ Amritsar – Chandigarh!! That looked and
sounded like a great route and we all were both very happy to just think we will be actually doing it.
Through the following months we planned, replanned and scheduled our trip and also had another avid traveler Andy (Anand) joining us for the same. All the logistics were to be done in terms of gear, budget and leave from our offices.
That was AGENDA! Thus started the long duration of five months where we finished all our shopping, saved up, and finished all work to hit the road middle of October. The only setback we had was our buddy Andy’s leave getting cancelled at the last moment due to some urgent work in office. Though the other three of us always knew he would be there with us in our thoughts and on our machines all through the journey. The last week leading upto the trip gave us sleepless nights. It was like we were all in love again; like in the hindi song – “Mujhe neend na aaye mujhe chain na aaye!”
And finally the day arrived – 14th of October 2011.
