    [Photo Feature]: 1/2013 ride to Mysore, India!

    Hey guys!


    Happy New Year! What better way to start a new year than a new year ride? I did this ride from Chennai to Mysore on the 1st weekend of New Year! Its just a photo log, enjoy! Pictures shared from facebook so excuse the quality.


    Starting off @ 3AM..



    Warming up for a couple of minutes.. Its only 20C but I felt damn cold..



    First break.. brrrrrr!



    Second break @ a Volkswagen showroom near vellore which is about 120kms from Chennai



    I was literally shivering.. thank god for the hot coffee!! this was around 4:30am



    Mysore!! Just 266kms away... but damn the mist and fog!! visibility dropped badly..



    Visibility drops to less than 20ft.. My visor, specs all fogged up so had to ride with out my glasses.. averaging 20kmph!



    Atlast!! Bangalore.. 300kms away from home at around 6:45AM.. waited it out so it gets a bit more "less cold" outside.. Bangalore is much colder than Chennai..

    The sun is out atlast! at about 8AM but still foggy..



    With the sun out, I set out for my first stop on my way to Mysore.. Kanva reservoir, not much water around..but still green green everywhere..






    Its harvest season, yet this guy took his time off to help me with the directions..









    Reached Kanva at around 10AM..






    You can never be alone in India..









    True love!



    On the way back to Bangalore-Mysore highway.. love these kinda roads..



    Next stop, Tipu Sultan's palace @ Srirangapatna near Mysore..No cameras allowed here so just two pix..

    Lunch break! One of the best KFC's I've been to...



    Next stop, Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary.. To be continued.

                  The bird santuary(Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary) was not in the itinerary but since i found it on the way.. i thought heck why not! Spent INR1000 sharing the cost with a couple for a hour long boat ride.. the season is just starting so not much variety but then there were tons and tons of birds.. took some 200 pictures here a select few posted here..



                  The guide was very informative but I dont recollect the names of the birds now.. sorry!






                  These I know are fruit bats..

                  It was around 4PM now and I was still about 60kms from Mysore. My next stop was the beautiful Mysore Palace, the sale of entry for which closes at 5PM! Damn.. made a mad dash for the city but traffic was light since it was a saturday and reached the palace gates on the dot.



                  I love Mysore, its one of the cleanest and least populated yet fully "functional" cities in India with great weather all year around. And the Mysore palace was the feather to its cap! Too bad cameras are not allowed inside the palace.. I recommend everyone visit this city!



                  The palace is usually lit up in the evening during sundays and holidays and dasarra festival but sadly i turned up on a saturday so this is all i get! Yet so beautiful.. words cant describe it!









                  I've a picture of the palace fully lit from a previous trip my stupid computer is too cranky to search so will post it next time..


                  So next stop was Chamundi hills, a hill which over looks the city of Mysore, there is a temple on top. Visited the temple, here is a view of the palace and the city from the view point on top. Am not that good at night photography..






                  After riding close to 600kms.. I was totally wiped and damn hungry.. so called it a day and got a room at a hotel called Chandra palace, very well maintained and pretty cheap @ INR700.. then headed to Oyster bay(highly recommended) for a yummy meal costing as much as my room rent and crashed for the day! To be continued..
