I do agree with Christo. Listen to Music has many problems. In the first place if a fast number is played, we get hooked to the music by nature and there is a chance of deviating from your concentration on the road. It is better if you can avoid music while riding. Just my opinion.

when a senior tells it, i kow its for good .
thanks once again . Ridermax thanka a lot bro.
Day 5 :
Nagercoil-Trivandrum-Alleppey(very frustrating traffic)
I dont know whats with Ambulance's in Kerala. from trivantrum to alleppey i hav come across an ambulance every 15 kms ,(i havent counted but was so frequent) either on the side of the road or zooming away with the siren on.
I had called @vaishak(who is an xbhpian) the day before had told him that i was passing trivandrum and thought of meeting him . he asked me not to go in the city and that's what i also wanted and met him in the Bypass road for breakfast.
the breakfast. idiappam for the first time. i liked it.
just after riding about 120+kms from the start point was exausted and this was again a very happy sight for me.
I had planned to go to alleppey before sunset and take a boat and roam around in the backwater taking some pictures. and the plan just turned out to be reality. reached alleppey by 230pm . took rest for an hour and asked my friend who own's the place to arrange a boat for me for about 2 hours . he arranged me a shikara boat for me alone , which was just awesome. An 8 seater boat was just for me .
this is the place where i stayed.
name of the house

this place is a home stay . i would suggest anyone heading to alleppey if they arent staying in a houseboat to opt for this place. it a Value for Money stay and a very friendly staff who are a group of young men running it.
it was time to get off my bike and chillax in the boat
waiting for public transport(boat-bus)
in most of the places private transport is the fastest but here its the public transport which is the fastest.
the coolest thing that i have seen in alleppey
the best way to save fuel.
sunset clicks
my friends from Polland Peter and Kasia Wilk

I have posted the above pic to thank those both though they will not be seeing the post . Mm cams memory was full after all the sunset clicks and there was a computer in the homestay . I decided to transfer all the pics from the cam's memory to my phones memory. this decision proved to be very costly.
i transfered all the pics from cam's memory to the computer ,with the command "delete the photos after copying from the device" -so foolish of me.
the tried to copy all of it to my phone with a card reader ,now i had a severe heart attach as the photo files were corrupted and were not able to be copied to any other device. i tried about 25+ times in different ways ,atlast i gave up and was damn sad that i had lost all the pics of my first solo ride . i was mostly feeling for the Dhanuskodi photos,as i had liked em a lot.
these 2 guys show up and Peter copied to his PSP and then from his laptop he transfered to my phons Mcard. and also promised me that he will not delete them and if i loose the pics he would upload them and send me a link.
in return i planned them the return route to delhi for 2 whole weeks with all the places to visit.
in this process i have lost about 130 photos as they were corrupted and could not repair them.
sorry if i have written a lot on this issue. it just came out in the flow.
day 6 to be continued...........Last edited by ANUP WS; 02-11-2013, 10:21 PM.It's always better to lose a second in life than to lose life in a second!

Day 6 : Alleppey-Kochi-Guruvayoor-Kozhikode-Mahe-Kannur-Bekal Fort-Puttur-Nelyadi-Dharmasthala
As i have mentioned that my plans had been changing ever since i had left but had not expected it to change this lot. kozhikode beaches was one of the main attraction of my ride but this is unfortunate that i had to skip it and ride through the bypass but was fortunate that i had my friends welcoming me after a long night ride.
i had decided not to ride after dark as i did not have a clear visor . to my bad luck i rode easy all the way and ended up riding till 9 most of the days and day 6 was the best night ride i ever did, rode throughout.
i was in alleppey and as i have mentioned in my previous post about the problem that i faced regarding my cam and pics ,it took a long time to get resolved . So it was 140 pm when i left alleppey.
by the time i was nearing guruvayoor it was 530 already and recieved a call from my friend and who informed me that they were leaving to dharmasthala that night and that i had to be there by tomorrow . damn that was an extremely happy and an extremely sad time for me . sad as in i had to skip may places and happy as in i was going to meet my friends.
at this stage i just postponed the brainstroming session till i reached kozhikode . i was about 4kms fro guruvayoor, there was huge traffic pile up and also the roads are pretty narrow. i was wondering if there was any accident that took place as the traffic was at stand still for more than 15 mins . after that moved at a very slow pace and to my surprise the reason for the pile up were 3 huge tuskers walking very slowly occupying more than half of the road. ha ha ha ha that was funny at that moment.
the place where i decided what to do on the kozhikode bypass
after many calls i decided to ride through the night ,reach bekal fort by 8am and head to dharmasthala via puttur - nelyady.
i decided on this as i was not tired at all and there were no insects and the road was goo till bekal as i heard from one of the truck drivers who seemed to be confident enough for me. orelse i would have stayed at kozhikode and start early morning.
pleanty of breaks on the way.
this was a good view for me. unfortunately the manager had swiped my credit card twice here . that i realised when my mom called me at 1230am when i was almost passing kannur that she had recieved 2 sms's of 750rs . i had to return to the place which was about 40kms away and talk to him and got all the required info and headed back. i called the respective bank and found out that only one transaction was made . and also got to know that this problem was very common in this place . so guys please be carefull when you use your Cards in Mahe.
Mahe bridge
butt break after kannur
midnight snacks
i was about 40 kms from bekal and it was 6 am. i usuallu dont ride from 6am-7am and 6pm-7pm as the road is not that visible at these timings bue to the sun and also the headlights arent of grat use at these time. found a CHAYAAA stall and there were benches on which i slept for an hour and half and then started again.
i reached bekal at 730 and visitors were allowed only after 830 . again had to skip it as i wasnt ina mood to wait .
this route was leading to the beach and thought of doing some off-roading but there was a well right in the centre and blocked the way.
it was just ride-ride nonstop till dharmasthala .from here the road was bad for 40 kms .and many places the road construction was going on. till i reached nelyady (blr-mangalore road) it was a chase sceen as the road was very narrow till puttur and over taking was very difficult.
reached at 1230.
day 7 and day 8 was spent with friends in dharmasthala roaming around .
day 9 to be continued......It's always better to lose a second in life than to lose life in a second!

Day 9 : Dharmasthala-CHARMADI-Mudigere-Belur-Chikkamagalur-Kemmangundi(almost 9 or 10 kms short)-Seetiahnagiri-Mullianagiri-Chikkamagalur
i never had a fixed goal as to cover this much kilometers today and such sort of things in the entire trip except for day 6 and that too in the night. the whole concept was just to take things easy. and that's how i prefer to ride. sometimes if i just feel like riding i never stop even the scenery is to die for and some times i stop 'n' number of times even if it was a dry land for pics.
It was around 930am when i vacated my room in dharmasthala.
i stopped at this place for tea and saw a man eating idli. dared to have a taste even after knowing coconut oil was used . surprisingly it was pretty good.

huh i have no words to describe Charmadi ghats . the problematic part of it has been redone and rest is also prety good. for me though the ghat is so tiny , is one of the favourite ghat just for the scenery when its raining.
Charmadi......

my place (doesnt mean i own this place) where i like to stop for a cofeeee. again im not saying it serves great coffee but the atmosphere is just awesome here.

entered Chikkamagalur and found out that there was a public communist meeting in the city and people were in rally mood . = crowded roads. took about 25mins to just reach the circle at which we have to take left towards kimara jn.(in the city ).from there nature at its beat . greenary and much more of it offered at the cost of just Rs 10.(entry cost).
i had stopped at this place just to call my mon that i was returning tomorow as Signal was not available from here.and this is what i decided to head till the falls and see if there was any water left and head back

Snacks break

view while havings the snakes

enroute Kennangundi...

greenary turned to brownie

i was stopped at the kemmangudi checkpost and my details were taken down . the lady incharge gave me a bad news regarding the water fass, that the road was closed due to the ongoing repair works and that i could go till kemmangundi. i had not been to that place also due to the heavy fog last time when i had been there in XBHP ISG2G 2012.
just 2 kms after the checkpost the look of the tarmac completely inversed .i being an optimistic person went on hoping for a better road in the nearing, which proved to be false alarm. had to turn back as it was just sharp stones all over .while going to kemmangundi i had spotted a hotel board in front of a house (at this time food was the prime factor for me ) ,so started the return journey in search of food.
found this at the place ("hotel")

but the food was very very good. simple rice and sambar and papad to go with it. and to add to it all the forest rangers were there and had a long chat with them . the chat initially was about my route and the pain in the ass and ..........blah blah went on to people in bangalore ,modern women ,pollution , the problems that the rangers face , poor functioning government etc................... i never complained . it was too sunny and i had to pass my time till 330 as it was just 2 when i stopped there.
also came to know a shocking matter that there are tigers in kemmangundi ?????????what???????? also the villagers told the same. is it true??????????
some remainders

such irresponsible drivers playing on the edge . this mess took more than half an hour to get cleared. including a war of heavy sanskrit in kannada and in malyalam. was fun seeing it though.

due to that pile up i pulled up a little back and parked in a safe place .

mullianagiri....

till abouT 430 it was very hot and i was having icecream and the guy who sold it told me he was leaving as it would be cold now. i just smiled . but after just 15mins i was feeling cold with my leather jacket and gloves on. even i was determined and had made my decision that i would leave only after some sunset clicks ,and so did i.

there were may car drivers at the top and again the same routine of starting the conversation....... but made good friends . out of which one driver of a swaraj mazda whom i had met once in madikeri was the company for dinner and a little energy tonic. overall Ckikkamagalur was just awesome.
the last day left out. It's always better to lose a second in life than to lose life in a second!

The LAST day!!!
Day 10 : Chikkamagaur - Belur - Hassan - Mayura HOtel (nowadays is to be considered a spot on the google map)-Magadi - *HOME*(Bangalore)
Started my day at 630am. Chikkamagalur is a very cold place even in summer (almost). it was bone chilling cold and it was time for some "soodu chaya".
so it was 650 am almost when i started from CKMLR. i had just cleared 15 odd kilometers and i completely lost the sensation in my hands. i could not feel anything with my fingers , it was kind of frozen.
I still remember last years WINTER RIDE where i had experienced something similar but this was worse . i stopped immediately seeing some people had made a bonfire besides the road. if not i would have freezed ....

My bike also feeling the cold

riding on Hassan-Belur route never had felt better than that day.

my fav pic

till today i was almost enjoying the complete ride/trip again as i was writing up about it and experiencing it all again ,but now its going to end.
i seriously appoligise for all the spelling mistakes (i blame the SMS system for it) that i have made in this entire Tlog. frankly its the first time i have ever taken interested in writing one. its actually fun on the whole.
positives of the trip :
* being alone leads to thinking more ,which is good.
* it was almost like a personality development programme for me
* the BONDING between me and my Darling(RTR) became even better, i understood my bike much better .
* I always thought that to enjoy a trip atleast another person(company) was required , which is completely false belief.
* i am much much much more confident about myself after this grand SOLO ride.
* again realised that i LOVE my BIKE...
Negetives,
found nothing which caused me regret taking up this idea of riding all alone for such long.
every place i have been to in this trip , i have made plenty of friends everywhere. im lucky that i met such good people on the way, which felt great.
had forgotten to mention this incident,,,
it was a completely incident free ride but there was a small ocassion where i felt almost dead.(because of stories i had heard from many friends of mine) , i had passed vellore (towards chennai day 1)and it was aroung 740pm i guess and was dark already. that stretch of road wasn't made yet and we had to pass in the service road. ahead of me was a overly loaded lorry with stones and behind me traffic was building. i never try to overtake by the left at most of the times as im damn scared to do so. i had heard that we should not go close to heavily loaded trucks as their tyres tend to burst and when they do the impact would be high . so i had maintained a good distance from it and an innova driver was honking at me for doing so. as i was almost to the end of the service road there was an explosion and i felt a sensation in my right thigh ,i immediately pulled over with my indicators on and just started to search for any signs of blood . to my bad luck the left rear Tyre had blasted and i was slightly towards the left at that time so i had worries im my mind. the foolish innova driver was just laughing at me when i was checking myself. luckily nothing had happened except a small stone hit on my thigh . thanks to my jeans or else it would have entered my body easily.
kindly maintain a decent distance while over taking lorries/trucks.. even at low speeds.
thank you for reading my travel log .... RIDE SAFE RIDE LONGIt's always better to lose a second in life than to lose life in a second!
