Day 8 - Riding to the most beautiful place on Earth


I went to my room and dozed off. Yes. Coming to heaven on earth and sleeping. Spreading out on the three beds, with the blue lake from the small window, I melted between the sheets. By the time I wake up, it was past 4PM and light was starting to die down. I hurried out with my photography gear and trekked to the shore of Pangong, positioning myself on a heap of sand and rocks. This gave me a vantage point for taking pictures as well as a time-lapse video I had planned for long. Just then, I realized I had left the tripod in the room and headed back to the room, cursing myself. Upon coming back, I tested a few angles for the GoPro, checking the image captured by putting the memory card in my SLR, before finalizing the positioning of the same and starting the captures for time-lapse video. Since the GoPro was working on its own, I got busy with the SLR, capturing the various moods of Pangong. The beauty was accentuated by the dark clouds rolling around, giving diverse views of the skies within minutes. After a few shots standing near the tripod, I was shivering due to wind-chill and started walking around in circles to keep myself warm. A look up and down the sandy beach confirmed my GoPro will stay safe, so I headed down to the shore to touch the waters. Wearing a lumbar belt all this while, I dared to stoop low to get a shot of prayer stones on the beach. By the time I decided to leave, there was no one but me left on the shores.

Day 9 - Going back to the (More) plains


Before starting the ascent to Chang La, I stopped to take out my air filter to slightly increase the power output of the bike. The weather had cleared up considerably since yesterday, which was a huge relief on the bad roads towards the top. I touched the top with clear skies and parked my bike, wanting to eat something at the restaurant there. I shoveled in the bowl of Maggi with some tea and decided to proceed, as it was close to 11. From the top, I rushed down on 6KM of bad roads before reaching well laid tarmac. I rushed like a lightening to reach Shakti village for my next break. I called up my mom, since there was no network the last day. After a short butt-break, I headed to Karu where I needed to mark exit at the TCP. At Karu market, I looked for a bottle to store additional petrol in, but no shops were selling it. I purchased a 2L bottle of cold-drink and headed towards the petrol pump, with 5L storage for extra fuel. The next fuel station is 350KM away.
