  • [Photo Feature]: Lunch ride to Hogenekkal

Did a lunch ride to Hogenekkal falls, Tamilnadu from Bangalore last week.

Here is the route through some awesome roads in Denkanikottai, Anchetty and some photo/video teasers.

Onward Route as tracked by phone GPS - 3/9/2013 5:10am - Google Maps

Just another Saturday morning in Bangalore as I reached Domlur with my bike, to head for a ride to Hogenekkal in Tamilnadu.

On reaching Anchetty, the road forks into a left-right. Left goes to Hogenekkal, right goes to Ooragam (Oorgaum). The road to right also looks interesting and it connects to Kanakapura. Bangalore-Anchetty-Kanakapura-Bangalore.. what an interesting circuit that would be!

The climb is moderately steep, there were some hair pin bends coated with loose sand/tar dust which made it a little slippery. On reaching the top we found a modest village where most people spoke both Kannada and Tamil. I picked a spot from looking at the satellite image of the place (what looked like the highest point to me), and we decided to navigate to this place.
This village is kind of sparse, and lives on cultivating Kezhvaragu (Ragi). After reaching the furthermost point till which our bikes can travel, we decided to go on foot. There was a kid who offered to help us reach the top, and so we followed him.

Our original plan for the day was to continue onto reach Pennagram from Hogenekkal and then head back to Denkanikottai through Panchapalli dam. But I knew that these roads offered lesser shade than the one we took in the morning, so we decided to head back the same way. Thankfully the heat subsided after some time, and the ride back was as enjoyable as the first time.
