Re: Leh Ladakh - Journey Of A Thousand Miles!
Hi Pratesh and the other riders. Congratulations! Awesome to see RX100's doing Ladakh!
I am from Mumbai and planning a ride to Leh in August with my friends. I wanted some advise on the clothing. Is jeans sufficient or will we need riding pants with thermal lining? If we wear only jeans will it cause abration to the skin?
Moreover I saw all of you wearing knee pads. Do you think at those slow speeds you needed the pads? Does it not get uncomfortable?
I have a Cramster Breezer and the question is should I buy the Cramster riding pants or can I do without them.
Would be nice to get some input. The roads lead nowhere and hence, they lead everywhere.

All the Best for your journey Harvey. Personally, I feel, the best way to explore Ladakh is by road - walk, hike or hire a cage. Choose what suits you the best :-)

Only Jeans may not be sufficient in Ladakhi climate. I was wearing thermal liners under the jeans which helped save our skin from the severe cold. When in Drass, the temperature had dipped to less than -6 at night, which itself is not very low considering that Drass is the Second coldest inhabited place in the world. The temperature's can get much lower. Whatever you choose to wear, riding pants or Jeans, the gear needs to protect you from cold. In places where I was feeling too cold, I would wear my Duckback rain suit over my jacket and jeans. It helped a LOT!
I will strongly suggest that you do not ride without the helmet, arm guards and knee pads. Though the progress will be slow, loose soil, stones, water and black ice make up great combinations for lack of grip and riders are prone to fall. Two of my friends had falls on Zoji La and had it not been for the arm and knee guards, they would have scrapped bad. So don't take chances. You might feel a little uncomfortable, but it's always wise to be safe than sorry. Ride to Live!

Thanks mate! Appreciate the feedback. We actually had 4 RX's in the pack. Two of the RX's were behind me and got hidden in the pic.Originally posted by The One View Post

Wow. Awesome write up & pics.
I miss my RX now.
Once I have donned my black helmet, I become anonymous. My face ceases to identify me. My black visor shields others from the rigours of my passing glance while shielding me from their attempts to peer into my soul. I am an anonymous rider shrouded in black. I am no longer a specific self. I am a passing Traveller.
