Re: A quick vacation with my brother(and celebrating my RTR's 4th birthday)

      Day : 1
      Route : Bangalore-Srirangapattana-Hunsur-Kushalnagara-Dubare-Madikeri-SULYA-Sampaje-Puttur-Suratkal-Udupi-Kaup-Udupi

Initially the trip plan that i left bangalore at 5AM was i will be going till udupi all the was in the above mentioned route and then proceed to Murudeshwara , Honnavara (enjoy the twisties on the JOG falls road ) then Sigandur via JOG , halt in sagara and back to bangalore after visiting the LION and tiger park in shimoga(the main intention was to see the Panther as i love panthers)
But things were already decided for me by the roadsand the extreme temperatures i had to make some changes in the plan taking into the consideration that i had a pillion (that too a family member ) and his comfort level was exploited big time.

I left Bangalore exactly at 5AM after having tea at home only . Mysore road was more than happy that i was there after many many many months. Riding on Mysore road had never felt better . LEss traffic, PERFECT temperature and an awesome bike in great condition . What else can a Biker ask for!!! within no time i was doing good speeds and i could not believe my eyes that i was cruising in 110 kmph on an apache 160. the number stayed on the speedo for a good time till the HUMPS started from Ramnagara. I was in Dubare at 820 AM with one stop at Srirangapatna for tea and to ask my bro there how he was doing.
Hunsur madikeri road invited me with the smell of mangoes all over the place as there were heaps and heaps of mangoes on karts for about a kilometer or so which was a sight to see, i could not stop as i was in not mood to stop and take a pic. Also this part has started getting rain And is cooler than before.
One sight that was so welcoming (as if there was a red-carpet invite for you all the way)

these flowers may be common everywhere at this time of the year but the Madikeri route was kinda special and for that you'll have to go there and experience it.

      Dubare -

For my bad luck the place was cramped with tourists at that time itself , so i just moved on AS i was in full riding mood .

now it was time for my most awaited part of the ride- "MADIKERI-SULYA"

Before that , this is my brother

I just hit myself that i had not been in this route even once ??? What a beauty ! A sort of dream roads . NOT much of hairpins but just high speed corners. I LOVED IT. ONLY TILL SULYA

      here goes the curves...
The most common sign board on this stretch

without a pic of the coffee estate Madikeri pics are incomplete, just one here.

Now the Real test starts . I haven been able to click all the bad stretches from sampaje to puttur as you cannot find a good stretch any where along that road. some places Construction is going on as i've heard ,the Jelly stones are there for more than 6 months as it is .

      BAD/No roads + Extreme heat + pillion + dust = Frustration + fatigue

After that bad experience the temperature got hotter ++++ to add on ,i decided to get a place to stay in Kaup and spend the evening there and morning go to St.Marry's island and head towards next destination.
There are 2 lodges in Kaup and i tried my luck in both , disappointing results . Went on to katpady and there were no lodges at all and people told me to go to Udupi. Started searching one by one most of them told they were full. that was very disappointing and with heat i was completely drenched with sweat. At last
found a stay and relaxed for an hour . this is when i decided to change my plan after seeing my Brother's face . He seemed like he was done with the travelling thing and was exhausted.
after having a quick lunch headed back 17kms to kaup LIGHTHOUSE beach. though i had been twice to Udupi i had not been to this awesome beach. but a little dirty. Sunset at this place is TOO GOOD . looking at the scenery i just forgot all the things that happened and was back to normal and enjoyed.

first set ...( please don't mind as i will be storming in with my first ever proper sunset pics and sort of the only pics of the ride)

taking the bike to the beach wasn't that big deal but was too tired for that so found a spot to start the photo-shoot.

      Rest will follow.

          Thank you

          Day : 1
          continues ...

I had reached Kaup beach at 5pm and had started from udupi at 4:15pm. It took me 45 mins to travel just 16 km , just imagine the traffic . I had thought that only the Kerala part of NH 17 had bad traffic but i was proved wrong , Mangalore-udupi was worse. Its a 4 lane road but still under construction . many places its two lanes and some bridges not even that much. Even though its a 2 lane road buses and lorries travel in a 3 lane formation not once but many times. And the private Buses just come so close and start honking with their mighty sounding horns. that sight in the RVM is scary at times.

Moving on , I must say that this sunset was one of the best i had ever witnessed . And also here i decided to change the trip plan and decided to go to chikkamagalur instead of going to murudeshwara .

          here goes the Sunset ,

          Day-2 will follow...

                          Day : 2
                          Route : Udupi - Karkala - Ujire - Mudigere - Chikkamagalur

We both have already had enough of the scorching heat of the coast and had turned towards the beautiful chikkamagalur(CKMLR) . I have a habbit of keeping a track of my bikes mileage in long rides. I had started with a full tank and surprisingly my bike came to reserve at BC road , i had to fuel up in BC road which was not that far from bangalore. when i calculated the Average i couldn't believe my eyes, it was around 25 kmpl for an apache 160. right away i called my mech prior to which i checked for leakage and stuff . My mech told its ok and he assured nothing was wrong except the air screw is the culprit . usually i get 45+ average . My apache was behaving so well that i neglected the Mileage and moved on , thanks to the motul 7100. I sure can feel the change .

Got up at 530 am and headed to malpe beach having ST.Marry's island in mind. I was at the beach at 615 am and found out that the boats for that island started at 830 am. I hate waiting and at 7 am itself the temperature was damn high. So it was time that i started riding again.

                          Malpe :

Udupi-Karkala route is very nice to ride and is sort of calm and empty road, but there are some concrete sections in between (many places) which make it a little scary. the sad part is that we can do good speed on this route but they have put those concrete sections on the curves which can take you down. Also those sections are very uneven and braking on these sections is just toooo difficult. the route was pretty fun though ..
Fortunately the temperature also was going down . I was a little scared to take the mudigere route as there was an elephant incident reported in mudigere just few days before i left on this ride. After i reached my regular coffee stop few miles before mudigere got it clarified and then moved ahead consciously . the guy at that coffee shop when i entered the shop asked " eesali yaav kade inda bartaidira sir"( this time form which place are you coming) on which my bro just laughed. i still remember the look on his face . and later asked me how many times have i been to that coffee shop and i replied - many!.
Again i was in charmadi ghats. Fresh road from Belthangadi to kottigehara was laid just to welcome me to chikkamagalur and i just ripped my bike like hell .

                          Charmadi :

the following place was brown few weeks before and now.....

                          new off-roading trial.

                          brown background turning green

After leaving Udupi at 9 am I reached CKMLR at around 330 pm . The plan here was to go to Mullianagiri for sunset and next day return home.
                          enroute Mullianagiri

As soon as i reached seethianagiri (just 2 kms before the peak) the sun was in the right place for the photo i had imagined so stoped here first.
But to my bad luck it started drizzling and the whole atmosphere was bright and sunny ,turned dark in just few minutes. We had taken very less luggage as to reduce the weight of the bag. So decided to head back dissapointed a little. but i was very very happy that it was raining there and also the place has changed drastically over few weeks , I can say that as i've been a very frequent visitor to this place in 2-3 months. Chikkamagalur is back to its glory . The AC effect has also started there as it was pretty cold in seethianagiri at 5 pm itself .

                          few pics at seethianagiri :

                          Me

                          Lets obey and follow this

                          sunny

                          just few minutes after

As soon as i parked my bike in front of the hotel it started pouring heavily and continued to rain for more than 2 hours . Cursed myself for not taking the rain gear along. Chikkamagalur was over !

                          Day : 3
                          Chikamagalur - Kadur - Tumkur - Bangalore

The next morning we both over slept and started late which meant hot weather again. damn i was Feeling sad because of that. Started from CKMLR at 1045 am . I decide not to take the regular Belur -Hassan road and took the CKMLR-kadur route and then tumkur-BLR. to my luck this route was just Awesome.
High speed corners , some deep curves and very less traffic was very refreshing. I was easily doing speeds of 100kph + on my RTR . Im sure people with R15 and CBR would just love this 35 KM stretch , just make sure that you dont get down from the road when a bus or lorry tries to push you off the road as the shoulders are very badly maintained.
When i entered Kadur i saw a TVS showroom on the way, decided to get the tuning done and then move on. got the bike tuned and the guy told that the air screw was opened too much and hence i was getting less mileage . saved myself more than 300 rs by getting that fixed.
And then it was the Shimoga road. Beauty !!! i love this road just because you can ride so hard on this road and overtaking is just so fun in there. With plenty of butt breaks , i was home safe and sound at 330 pm .

By this A quick vacation with my brother(and celebrating my RTR's 4th birthday) comes to an END !

                          Thank you for reading.
