  • [Photo Feature]: Duo Ride to Sikkim!!!

    I have been a member of XBhp community for over 3 years;
    felt no need to get involved with so common 'biking club trend' locally at Kolkata.

    Always felt, to make trips... All I need are...
    my Ride(bike), Self-Funding, and of course Time from work!

    my identity??, let it Only be XBhpian!... that's good enough for me to Ride on...

    I have been planning to ride to Himalayas for a long long time; since it would be my first time to mountains, I just couldn't wait anymore to make it Happen!!!

    Waiting and waiting for at least 10-days' leave from work; I got bored, irritated, agitated, edgy... still leaves were not granted!!!

    April 2013, I put an End to this waiting!!!

    I said to myself, to hell with leave permission!!!
    11 days I will be off to work... they agree...fine, else I will find another company, another job...

    Since my counterpart (my wife) is also a rider, we got 2 bikes... we are 2 riders...
    FIRST time to Mountains... Himalayas... Sikkim!!!!!!!

    Unfortunately, my beloved Fazer got engine issues (cylinder-piston-valve....they say!)... my poor Ride, rode 42,400+ km; could not see Mountains...

    I was upset and undecided...

    Then, we came up with a plan, we would take our new Avenger 220 (belongs to my wife) to Sikkim...

    What about the Tour Plan???

    Duration: April 25, 2013 (Leaving) - May 4, 2013 (Return).

    Riding Plan: What plan?, just keep on riding \ m /...

    Okay, here it is...

    My wife decided not to stress herself by being my pillion or being rider back and forth Kolkata to Siliguri.
    She went and came by Satabdi Express (NJP-HWR).
    She preferred to ride mountains rather than bumpy-jumpy rider's nightmare infamous NH-34.

    So, Kolkata to Siliguri (back and forth) I went solo on her Avy!

    I left home from suburb Kolkata 25th April, 2013 at 1 am (night)...
    Reached Siliguri by same day evening...by 5 pm...
    16-hours constant riding (stopping of course for emergency breaks)!!!

    Alright, I wrote too much...
    So, let few of our photos start telling you the story...

    Time to move forward with our Story...

    Duration: [April 25, 2013 - April 26, 2013]...

    Place: Siliguri and foothills of Himalayas.

    On April 26, 2013 afternoon, we rode off the congested Siliguri city traffic all the way to Sevoke road which goes to foothills of Himalayas.

    Fresh breeze, forest greenery; views were changing, Mountains were coming into our views!!!
    We were really excited to ride curvy-snaky mountain roads for the first time!!!

    From this place on, my wife rode her Avenger as to her will!
    What could I say?, this is her bike, so I been her pillion whenever she wanted to ride her Avy!
    Anyway, we both enjoyed our ride!!!

                  Kolkata_551 km away
                  Cruising was cool in the morning on NH-31 (131 km stretch) up to Dalkhola;

                  And what's waiting after that??
                  NH-34 again
                  the Sun started baking me for a change..

                  4 Lanes are fine wherever you find them on NH-34;
                  but no trees, no shades, no nothing beside road to rest under the Sun if you ride at summer daytime there...

                  After being baked in the sun all day long, found some relief when sun went off...

                  At Krishnanagar, it all went dark;
                  famous huge potholes slowed me down afterwards...

                  Finally, I reached home around 9:15 pm.

                  NJP to Home Ride Time: Little less than 16 hours...

                  Total Tour Ride: 1800+ km

                  Our tour ended for now;
                  I was relieved; I was off NH-34!!!

                    Great pics....Haven't seen anyone from sikkim as enthusiastic as Mr.Gurung.. his bike speaks a lot... Seems like you have not gone via Namchi to gangtok.. Any specific reasons for not travelling through Namchi ? And any reasons for not paying a visit to Yumthang from Gangtok since you might have had time to do that..

                      It was our first time, did not know way through Namchi;
                      no visit to Yumthang as 1st day we settled at hotel late afternoon, rain started afterwards, 2nd day... all day raining, 3rd day we got some time but decided to go short distances
                      as we had only one bike and pillion idea we both did not like.

                      We have plan to visit Sikkim again with 2 of our rides, 2 bikes, 2 riders... no pillion.... we will cover whatever we missed on our introduction trip!

                      Thanks.

                              Once I have donned my black helmet, I become anonymous. My face ceases to identify me. My black visor shields others from the rigours of my passing glance while shielding me from their attempts to peer into my soul. I am an anonymous rider shrouded in black. I am no longer a specific self. I am a passing Traveller.
