  • Golden Quadrilateral With A Wonder Conquered!

    Greetings BHPians!

This will be my first Log ever!

To introduce myself (Joy Rathod), Graduated couple of years back and started working in Vadodara, Gujarat for an IT Solutions Company but back of my mind always had been the touring thing!

    A Crazy Interview:

A 90 minutes 4th round of one on one interview ended per below

Interviewer: You're good, but to make one thing very clear "We need our employees to be very punctual and any long leaves will not be allowed here and want to make sure you take a note of that moving forward from here itself!"

ME: That is OK with me sir, but just to let you know in an around 2 years from now I'll be needing a straight 2 weeks leave as I'll have a Bike Trip planned and I hope you will not have any problems as I'm keeping you informed before I get my Offer Letter!

The interviewer starts laughing and the interview ended with the closing notes. (And yes I got the JOB and still working.)This log will cover how myself and my friend who joined me for this trip covered in all of 6400 kms in 12 days and our visit to Taj Mahal.

    Little Trivia:

    Bikes : Me - Apache RTR 180
    JP (Jaypratap) - P 220
    Distance: 6400 kms
    Travelling Time:146 hours
    Days: 12

Part 1: Surviving Heat - How we survived the heat of May till Uttar Pradesh, dis heartening road conditions and snaps from the Taj Mahal Visit.

Part 2: The Rainy Stretch - Bay of Bengal Low Pressure became the reason for the heavy rains and thunderstorms till the time we reached Odisha.

Part 3: The fast Run - The awesomeness of the highway conditions helping us to reach Bengaluru.

Part 4: The Last Leg: How I survived a horrifying fall from my beast almost UNHURT and completing the Golden Quadrilateral as per the schedule and our Lonavala stay accompanied by surprise visit from friends!

I hope you guys enjoy it.

I'm almost done with the part 1 & 2 so will be having it uploaded in a day or two.

    Some Snaps attached..

Originally the schedule for a trip was to get Leh’d.

Couple of years back JP with a friend of his got Leh’d and I was not able to join them coz I didn’t have my ride that time. A year back I bought Apache RTR 180 and asked JP to join me again back to Leh. But fate, his parents said “You have been to Leh once, going somewhere else makes sense.”

So we decided to do the GQ run. I started from Vadodara and went to my hometown Rajkot (Guj) to meet my parents and accompany my friend from there for the ride.
In this tour, we decided not to drive in dark. There were only 2 days where we drove till 8.00 pm only.

                Part 1: Surviving Heat

Day 1: Rajkot (Guj) to Ratanpur (Raj) – 360 Kms

First day, as always is very tiring as you get acclimatize to the heat, the roads are very well maintained till you reach Rajasthan. Driving in Rajasthan’s melted tarmac roads becomes pretty tricky as the tyre marks of the trucks makes the road almost un-drivable beyond 80’s as the route has so many leans/twist/turns. Took a hotel on the highway to slept, and got ready for the run for the next day.
                Temp: 40 – 43 Degrees

                Day 2:
Ratanpur (Raj) to Jaipur (Raj) – 550 Kms
To survive the heat we made sure we have 2 bottles of Glucose every day to keep the energy levels up as the heat started taking a toll on our body. And that has really helped us thru out the trip.
At 6:00 am we started and targeted to reach Udaipur by 7.30 – 8.00 (110 kms) and have some breakfast. The roads remained the same - melted tarmac, becomes almost impossible to drive till the time you reach Udaipur. One of my colleague is from Udaipur and was on leave so he met us over the breakfast and the run resumed.
The problem we faced is to get on the route to Bhilwara as it has a single lane road and a heavy traffic jam to cross Udaipur to that route. But after we crossed that patch the concrete roads starts and we started to ramp up the kilometers pretty quickly. The last 100 kms consists of GVK expressway so that patch was also very good to drive.

                Temp:
                43 – 47 degrees.
Hotel: Hotel Kiran Palace (Nice accommodation – will be the first hotel to left as you just enter the city after the first cross roads. Rent: 1000/- for night)

                Day 3:
Jaipur (Raj) to Agra (UP) – 520 Kms
The day started with troubles, 2 times the traffic police held us as we looked diff in the bunch of vehicles! J. Asked for a hefty amount as we by mistake took a wrong turn and entered a one way once. Reached Yamuna expressway thereafter and poured our anger on the expressway.
Reached Agra at around 5 pm went straightly to Taj Mahal after dumping the bags to Hotel but unfortunately the police there didn’t allowed us to enter though there was 30 minutes left to officially closing time. So that got postponed to next day morning at 6.00.

                Temp:
                45 – 48 Degrees
Hotel: Hotel Raakesh, MG Road, 4 kms to Taj Mahal. (Not so great but is OK for a night stay. AC didn’t worked properly . Rent: 1200/-)
