• The most awaited Ride of my Life

It was September 2012 when I brought home my Pulsar180. After a few days my cousin Manoj Chaodang Gogoi expressed his desire of owning a Royal Enfield Thunderbird.

Till the mid of 2012 as far as I know the Guwahati dealer was the only dealer in entire Northeast India. After sales service was a big problem as there are no authorized service center in Upper Assam.

It was a great news for us that a new RE dealer was recently opened in Jorhat. The bike was finally booked after few days of October Grand Tour. The dealer said most probably it would be delivered by first week of January 2013.

By the end of November 2012 we got the news the Thunderbird is going to be upgraded with new tank, lights, meter console & silencer for which the delivery will need more time.

We were quite happy that we are getting something new to ride on road but it was difficult to keep patient. Most of the time I use to say " Itna time laga raha hain, kuch aur le lo "

Its the story about the long frustrating month of waiting period for the Royal Enfield TBTS350 and the immense pleasure of bringing it home. The journey was only about 111 miles where we rode it from the Dealer to Home but we waited for the ride for almost eight months. Therefore I say its the most awaited ride of my life. Its about a journey, an experience

Bindass Axomia : congratulations on the pristine possession.
i can very well understand the excruciating pain one feels during the waiting period.
i have started firmly believing that there is a lot in common with booking a bull & planting a Walnut [Akroot] tree.
they say that the man who plants the Akroot tree, doesn't get to eat the fruit of the tree he's planted.
likewise, that day is not far when, a guy will book a bull & his infant son will get the delivery of it when he turns 20! [the original person who booked the bull will be long gone & R.I.P.]
anyways... again congratulations on the ride...
do post fotos & logs of ur ride in that fabulous & natural-beauty laden state of urs

Thank you, my cousin brought the bull. I just accompanied him to bring it home. I own a Pulsar180 & very happy with it.We got the delivery after eight month of booking. Thank god it didnt happened like the Akroot story. But even eight month is also a long time to wait in this busy world. We had to wait almost like waiting for delivery of a baby...

Your cousin bought an Enfield, congrats him for me please. A lot of my friends who service their bike at Jorhat said the quality of work leaves much to be desired. I'd be eager to hear your experience with it.
I am back!

Till now we have not done any servicing in Jorhat. As Jorhat is too far from us, so on advice of the dealer we did the first service at a local workshop. We will go for the second service there.

'think it's an ownership experience with a default travelogue that could not be helped - he had to ride around 480 kms to bring it back to his place (correct me @Bindass Axomia)

haha, thanq dei :-D Actually we live in Duliajan which is 180km = 111miles away from Jorhat.

We got the delivery by 5.30 PM so we had time for only few clicks as it became dark after few minutes. I will upload the other clicks with rest of my travelogue/experience

The most Awaited Ride of my Life
Part- 2

Though we tried to convince him to buy another bike he just said ' I will wait, Good things come to those who can wait'.

The stock of new RE motorcycles arrives in Jorhat Dealer on 10th & 25th of every month. From the month of January every times he calls the dealer says "Twilight Black colour has not arrived, you can take Flicker Black or Matt Black "Everytime he just replies patiently " I want Twilight Black colour only "
Now what is Twilight Black Colour. Normally the bike looks black in colour but it gives a bluish shine under sunlight.

Days passed & the Twilight Black Colour was not coming I tried to convince him to choose another colour but he didnt agreed. Finally I on mid of April the dealer said " Twilight Black Thunderbird is coming on 25th April Stock "Hurray

The most Awaited Ride of my Life Part- 3

On hearing the news, I was so excited that I posted the news in my facebook status but I realized that he have not shared the news with anyone. When I asked him he told he want to give a surprise to his friends. So I deleted the status within few minutes as some of his friends are my mutual friends

So as decided on 6th May I went to my office & took leave for the day. We started our journey towards Jorhat accompanied by my another cousin Dibakar Chaodang Gogoi, Peha and driver.

On the way we were going through a strange kind of feeling "pet main gudgudi ho rahi hain, dil jor jor se dhak dhak kar raha hain" feeling Excited & Nervous at the same time like going to a exam hall. We stopped the car, walked few steps, drank some water & everything was all right. We reached the Jorhat Dealer by 12.15 PM.

The dealer was spacious & beautiful. Not too Small & congested with bikes like lots of chips hanging in Pan Ghumti nor too Big with a huge stock like a Marwari Godown. It had selected motorcycles on display. The walls are decorated with posters one of which displays the history of Royal Enfield.

The most Awaited Ride of My Life
Part-4

On that day five motorcycles was to be delivered. Out of which four motorcycles were coming to Dibrugarh District. We were the fourth.

First motorcycle delivered was Silver Classic350 & 2nd a Electra. The Electra owner installed a Jagwar statue in his front mudguard :-D By 2 PM it was lunch time & workshop was closed so we have to wait for the delivery.

We went to etc canteen for lunch on suggestion of Dibakar Chaodang Gogoi my another cousin who was a ITI Student of Jorhat. Now what is etc stands for Eastern Theoritical College Canteen. As most of there students are tribal, so traditional meal of boiled vegetable, meat & rice was served. The Chilli Chutney & boiled vegetable made me remember the October Grand Tour of Nagaland & Manipur while the Bamboo Shoot Pork Soup reminds me of Singpo Villa, Margherita. The food was yummy & price was reasonable as it was a canteen.

After lunch when we reached back the dealer, we could see that the mechanics are fitting some accessories in a Electra for delivery like tank guard, leather bags, mirrors etc. He even changed the new Silencer. After his delivery its time for our bird.

We fitted the minimum accessories like leg guards, seat covers etc. The mechanics took it for few test rides & got it washed.. In the service area there was a old model bullet RIP.

Finally the bike was delivered by 5 PM. My cousin went for his first ride to the nearest fuel station. The mechanics advice not to fill the tank full upto the cap so we filled the tank with 11 ltr of petrol.

We started the return journey. As my other Cousin Dibakar was like a local of Jorhat he knew all the shortcuts, so he accompanied in the motorcycle. He asked us to wait in Jorhat Bypass. While coming back on car we were stucked many times in the traffic jams.

I was excited to have the first ride. When we reached the bypass I asked him to take a photo snap quickly as it was getting darker. I asked "moi solau ne tumi solaba" :-P

To be continued...

It was time to taste the fruit of the long wait. I started riding the bull, the pickup was decent. I felt that there is lot of scope of improvement of the rear suspension & the transmission should be smoother.

I was softly cruising at speed of 50 - 60 kmph. Loved the classic dug - dug - dug sound of the exhaust crossed historic Sivasagar & reached Moran. We left the Highway & entered the Rajgarh Road.

My another cousin who was waiting over the Bridge with our driver & uncle for his turn to ride bull said he was feeling sick & will follow us on our car. On hearing that " Happily we said ok, Take rest "

After riding few kms it started raining, we wore our rain-suits & started riding. We reached Home by 10 PM.
