It was quite some time since i was eyeing on Facebook from different biker communities for different riding events which were planned for 15th August, Independence Day 2013. I gave me goosebumps cause i wanted to ride in a group as well. I shared my plan with couple of my friends in office and outside, finding to my surprise that many had similar goosebumps like me
(my my!). Anyways we quickly chalked out a small plan and decided that we will ride to a small hill station named Devrayanadurga, a place where there was lake, a place where you can do uphill and downhill rides and a place where there was trekking. As usual, was excited to plan this ride since this was going to be my first group ride (a small group though! but i guess there is always a start to all good things).Right, so we made couple of phone calls fatafat to people who might be interested to join us for this ride. We ended up with 15 riders (13 motorcycles and 2 pillions). Not a bad start to the group, eh?
. Here goes the list:1. Bijoy - steed: RE Thunderbird
2. Vinay - steed: RE Desert Storm
3. Dinesh - steed: RE Bullet
5. Udy - steed: Yamaha FZ-S
6. Vikas - steed: Yamaha R15 v1.0
7. Pankaj - a pillion
8. Sunil - steed: Hondo Stunner
9. Siba - steed: Bajaj Pulsar 150
10. Gaurav - steed: Bajaj Pulsar 150
11. Raj Sekhar - steed: Yamaha FZ-S
12. Raj Pratim - steed: Yamaha FZ-S
13. Janardhan - a pillion
14. Sammy - steed: TVS Apache 160
15. Me, Suvrajit - steed: Bajaj Avenger 180
We were pretty much happy with this small group which we formed soo fast and couple of us sat down in our office to chalk out the final route (we made sure no one from office new we were utilizing the office space to plan this out
). After couple of polls and some hyper moments, we came down to this final plan:So we were now all set for the group ride to Devrayanadurga. I and one of my colleague volunteered to buy the flags and after roaming around in the less-known-to-me places, we finally got what we wanted. Anyways, this being my first group ride, made me stay awake the entire night of 14th August. I double checked of the camera, the riding gears, the steed and most importantly, fuel. The meeting time was set to 06:00 AM on 15th August, and everyone was asked to put Indian Flags on their steeds to show respect and dedicate this ride to all the great fighters who fought for their lives for Independence.
And the Ride Begins
Woke up sharp at 05:00 AM, made some calls immediately to make sure others have woken up as well and getting ready. Now, there came a problem. All these discussions, all these meetings made us forget how to mount the flag on the bikes. And guess what? It was the problem for everyone. Every now and then i was getting calls : "bhai, ye flag kaise lagau ?
" Anyways, couple of us decided to bring some cello tape, scissors and gum to the meeting point so that we can mount them to any feasible place we see. And..that..made..us..LATE!!

People like Udy were waiting at the meeting point since 06:00 AM and i was having a bad feeling that he is not going to like when i tell him that no flags are being mounted, so that is what we are going to do at the meeting point (which would eventually take some time
). I reached the meeting point at 06:30 (somehow managed to mount my flag with cello tapes and gum) with my colleague, Vinay. Udy was having a red-face!!
(LOL!!!). By 07:00 AM, we were all set to start the ride (and yes, we were able to mount the flag on every single bike
). We decided that once reach NECE road, we would halt for few minutes and would start making a formation ride. By 07:30 AM, we touched NECE road and made our first stop. After few minute's discussion, i decided to go further ahead with my camera and click couple of shots of the formation. I chose a sweet spot to click couple of them
It was my first taste of group ride and i must say i enjoyed to the core!
. Looking forward to many more group rides in the near future. Our next stop was at KAMAT upachar, off NH4. We were running late so we decided to have a quickie. We chose to have the buffet breakfast as it was going to be faster. Both me and Udy could not resist clicking pictures here as well. Some moments..
We finished off with our breakfast and continued on our way to Devarayanadurga. We handed over our camera to pillion rider, Janardhan. Kudos to him to click some really nice pics.
On the way to Devrayanadurga we came accross a small but beautiful lake. We could not resist stopping at this beautiful place and take some snaps as well.
Reached Devrayanadurga around 11:00 AM, finding no other group
. It was time for us to park our steeds and go around the hill, a much needed break for us. Some of us were excited to do some trekking and to go to the hill top. Some of us decided to lay down for a while as it was cool breeze all along. Udy and I took back the cameras and started clicking again
And some trekking pictures goes out there as well
It was 01:00 PM and we have some quality time at this small hill station. It was about time when we decided to go back to Bangalore. Everyone gathered around and went back to our steeds. Had some light snacks at the small shops stationed just next to the temple as we all were starving and we knew we would not be able to get lunch until we hit the highway.
We started our descent shortly after we were done with our snacks. We decided to take our next stop would be after the Neelamangala toll booth (there is a tea stall just after the booth). It was our dispersing point as while returning back, some decided to take the NECE road and some decided to continue on the Tumkur road, hence travelling in the city.
And the ride ends
Past the Neelamangala toll booth, everyone pulled over, grabbed some tea, started pulling legs of how everyone was riding. I do not know what everyone thinks, but i had a certain smile on my lips. It was the smile that showed i am satisfied and yes i am ready to do it again! anytime! anywhere! Does this put a mark on my biking career? Yes, it did. Otherwise i was not here writing this photo feature. Now, the bigger question is..Have i evolved being a biker after this group ride? To a certain extent, yes. I understood the discipline you need to maintain, the difficulties you need to face when someone does not maintain the line and most importantly i was able to see the bond that bring together all the biking brothers together..a brotherhood, to stick with each other till the end.
See you until next time
