Pollachi was really crowded but managed to escape with out any traffic jam. From Pollachi it was bit rush. It slowed me down.
Entered Coimbatore around 9. With rickshaw walas and traffic police as map I reached near railway station (around 9:30) and took room at Deva hotel (
Budget hotel 400 for non-ac single room. I have stayed before. Rooms clean, staffs good. They have parking at ground floor with a security. I have noticed this in my previous visit.

          .
          Indeed super awesome roads.
People who complaints about our roads should see this. They have not seen the best. We have awesome roads in our country. Its one of the best things about being a biker, you ride through the best and worst.

Day 2 – Change in plan.

It was a pleasant typical sunny morning in Coimbatore. I finished my work stuffs by 11 and I was thinking of some thing for time pass. My balance was pretty much on weaker side so I thought no shopping and even I wasn’t ready to get around in that sunny climate.

With no other options found, I took the newspaper and started surfing. In the mid page title grabbed my attention. It was about a dog show in ooty. Aha Ooty. Bells started ringing. Checked distance and climate in Ooty. I was more than happy to see the climate reading. Then started checking the routes to Cochin from ooty. Bingo here is the route. I have never been to that route. Ok cool! Change in plan. Destination Ooty.

I packed everything quickly, Called home and some how convinced mom.

Around 12:45 I started from hotel. Coimbatore as usual was almost in the mood of traffic jams. Stuck in traffic and finally managed to escape to Mettupalayam road. It was way too hot then.

The road condition was some what mixed. Irregular patch works, potholes, humps, bumps everything you can imagine of along with speeding vehicles and locals simply crossing as if they’re moving to another room in their house. Some open stretches where the wind was drifting my bike and me. Didn’t take any break till mettupalayam. Simply wanted to escape from this mess.

Mettupalayam – ooty road was cool. But climbing buses and lorries slowed me down. Didn’t not stop that much. Apart from the nature and twisted road, it was like the usual roads.

Around 4pm I reached Ooty. Roamed city for a hotel with parking place. But couldn’t find one with in my budget. Just outside near botanical garden I found one with an underground parking. Not exactly a hotel. Lodge type. Parked bike settled room for 650/- [Though I wont recommend this place]

Ooty is a real beauty pageant in rain. Temperature was really low and the rain added the depth of cold. It was a complete relief for me from the scorching Coimbatore.

After some rest I went to botanical garden. Did not take much photos there, as it was heavily crowded. Otherwise I would have to tag each and every person in fb. From there I walked to city, had food, brought some chocolates etc. That small walked helped to keep myself warm. Had a small cold. I’m bit sensitive to sudden climate change and very much sensitive to hot climate.

Came back to room and fixed next day’s plans. Initial plan was to start by 6 and visit the lakes and just one more circle around city and then to Nilambur.

). Some how managed myself and returned to room.

By 9:30 I started from there. I was in bad mood and I knew if I go to lakes it would be pretty late to start from Ooty. I thought let it be like this. Will come again later. To explore Ooty. Any way this ride was just the beginning. A small step, but a giant leap.

Picture abhi baki hai mere dosth Hehee..

Once the scenic route started it changed my mood. Back in business. Overall the road condition was good except some stretches.

When I reached Nadugani it started to fog up again and had the same feel as Ooty. Soon it started to drizzle that added the beauty even more. Took a small tea break at Nadugani. Most of my tea breaks were to talk to the locals, so that I get enough info about the road ahead and what to care of. Mostly talked to taxi and auto people. Who else knows better than them?

[This was the last photo break Above 3 pics just before Kerala Checkpost]

The Mannuthi highway was really bad like hell. I was riding real slowly. Even the traffic was in worst condition. After the toll it was nice roads. But the frequent rain slowed me down. I was so tired and took frequent breaks. Riding through NH and State highways are real pain in the A**. With all the breaks and traffic finally reached home around 11:45 PM

                  Vrooommmmm.......

There were some mistakes and lessons learned, which I believe will help me improve. Now I know the limit, the horizon. I don't see mistakes as bad things. And if you don't make any mistake you know..

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.

                                Sorry for late reply.

Thank you and yes I had a great time. Thats the best thing I like about my phone. . Im very lazy to carry a point shoot camera. But next time will take one for sure.

I didn't visit valpari town. So not been to any places other than what I saw on the way. I'm planning another trip exclusively to valparai. May be a 2 day trip so that I can visit places I have missed.

                                • Athirappilly Water Falls
                                • Charpa Water Falls
                                • Vazhachal Water Falls
                                • Peringalkuthu Reservoir
                                • Power house (not sure about public visit)
                                • Sholayar dam
                                • Valparai
                                • Nirar Dam
                                • Chinnakallar Falls
                                • Monkey Falls (if going to pollachi)
                                • Aliyar Dam (if going to pollachi)

From vazhachal you will be travelling through deep forests. Its a butter smooth road and greenish from some 40Kms. Afterwards till malakkapara its really bad.(Saw constructions when i visited). Some places are really narrow.

RIght after vazhachal come a village called Pulielapara and thats the last place you see people and hotel, after wards its a jungle book till malakkapara

Often I saw fresh elephant dung and the smell was there in air. Though didn't c any elephants. But be cautious. Didn't see any animals other than some monkeys. May be because it was raining. Lots of small streams and falls enroute. Be cautious for leeches if you play at these streams and falls. Leech bite is not dangerous. Ayurveda says leech only drink the bad blood. good for forming new blood.

The main beauty is the ride between Valpari and Athirapilly.

Check post is open from 6AM - 6PM. They will only ask for destination and takes note of plastic bottles. You need to sign at the checkpost. Just keep the receipt (details of vehicle, bottle number etc) safe which you have to give it to the other end. Not sure about the liquor stuff. TN checkpost didn't ask much. But keep you RC - License - PUC - INSURANCE handy just in case. Also they didn't bother to check my bag. But read people mentioning about checking their bags.

Hope this helps. People who have stayed at valapri can help you more on itinerary. The way I planned roughly is like this

                                Day 1 : Ernakulam - Athirapilly- Valparai
                                Day 2 : Valparai
Day 3: Valpari - Athirapilly- Ernakulam

If you can get any local help from valapari you can explore the unknowns.

Riding is an addiction. Now I don't miss a single opportunity to ride. When ever I have to go any places the first thing I ask myself is " Can I do it on a bike ?"
