Me : Did we stop now to click? You can get some good long exposure shots of the night sky I guess.
Nishanth : I didnt stop for pics, where are the rest, werent they right behind us?
Fareed : Maybe they stopped for pics?
Nishanth : I WILL KILL THEM IF THEY STOP FOR PICS NOW!!
Whoa! That was the first time I saw Nishanth angry! Both of us immediately started looking behind but still no headlights.. just darkness, darkness and more darkness…
1000kms earlier…
4:15am .. Near Yeshwantpur, Bangalore...
Me, Nishanth and Fareed.. all of us on 1st gear, speeds < 10kmph. Was surprised how easily Nishanth was manoeuvring his CBR in between those millions of trucks blocking the road. All of us must’ve hurled enough curses at those heavy vehicles inside our helmets! And finally we reached the meeting point, where our fellow riders Sunil, Anoop, Ajit and Raj were already present along with our friend Benaka with the brand new D390, to bid us goodbye.
After a few chit chats and go pro videos and what not, we started off, all excited! It was just highways in front of us for the next 500 odd kms. Pretty much the same, just hold the throttle and sit tight. A couple of dogs were trying their best to scare us on the Nelamangala flyover (read jaywalking on the road!) but thankfully they managed to escape in time.
A few pics now..
One of the toll booths...

Trip planner and lead rider Nishanth (@nisnth) thinking Ayyo, which song to listen? I copied so many!!

We are going to Maharashtra ..

Look at the boring highways waiting for us..

Ajit after tanking up.. calculating mileage again and again in his head.. trying to improve the 26kmpl somehow!!

Toll booth at Hubli bypass...

The most interesting stretch on the highway!!!

But it was just two more such corners & then just regular straight roads!
I had also recently bought a Crampbuster and what a boon it is on highways. Maintaining speed is effortless. If anyone is planning to ride a lot on highways, I would surely recommend this.
As per our initial plan, we had to cover around 770kms and reach Ganpatipule, but we were a somewhat large group of 7 riders, so you really expect to follow the schedule?

Finally we were at Amba ghats by 7pm.. close to 700kms of riding.
We stopped at a small village.. it was all dark.. all of us were tired.. only single lane ghat roads lay ahead of us.. & none of us were in mood to go any further.. Fareed was even using the pain relief balm on his right hand because of cramps..
We were all wondering what to do.. there was no hotel in sight.. And going to Ganpatipule was out of question..
And then the foursquare addicts came to the rescue!!!

Our AJIT started searching for accommodations in that area and voila, there were quite a few at distance of 10 odd kms.. all of them being jungle resorts.. we decided to stay in one of them..
It was dark and a few of us missed the deviation for the resorts.. the path looked haunted, abandoned buildings on both sides & no light apart from our 7 headlamps.. We made it to the resort entrance and even there it was all dark! Somehow managed to unmount the luggage with our mobile flash lamps :P and crashed into the small cottage waiting for us.. food was quite good, played with the ever-hungry persian cat for sometime (which ate as much as one of us I guess
) and called it a night ... It was a nice beginning for our Maha ride with a few surprises and change of plans...And in case you were wondering, this is not when Nishanth got angry
