  • On The Road Again! Going For Green

We had hardly finished our Wayanad and Coorg ride when another long weekend popped up, and to a biker the temptation to head onto a highway is hard to resist.

And so on the 1st of November on a cool and misty morning, its jackets, gloves, helmets and saddle bags on and good bye city and hello highway!

The long weekend meant all kinds of holiday makers on the road. We saw carloads of families with excited kids and dozens of bikers heading to various destinations. We chatted with a few of them at our pit stop for breakfast. Always a pleasure to meet a fellow biker all geared up and heading out.

A planter friend of ours had made arrangements for us at a club in Sakleshpur where we were to spend the day. Most of the highway is complete now and a real pleasure to ride on and we bikers being an exclusive class are even exempted from toll (wink, wink!)

At Hassan we see many bikers turn right heading towards Belur/Halebid & Chickmgalur. A wave and a thumbs up and we carry on.

We reach Sakleshpur before noon after a relaxed ride and check into our room. The club house is quite and relaxed place. Established in 1893, it exudes a wonderful old world charm with its garden and tall stately trees.

Late afternoon, after coffee, we take a ride down towards Shiradi Ghats just to get a feel of the curves. The road is in real bad shape after the heavy monsoon rains and we return after a short stretch. After dinner at the club, we wind up for the day as we prepare for an early morning exploration ride among the coffee estates.

Never miss a dawn of a new day! It has so much to say. As the sun slowly rises to shine through the mist and begins to light up and warm the waiting world, it holds so much of hope and promise of another brand new day. It’s a great time to view our lovely world the way it should be, with warmth, respect and love.

It’s such a pleasure to ride among the estates, to feel the chill and to breathe in the fresh air. The coffee berries are ripe and ready for plucking and the birds are chirping away happily.

We stop often to admire the lovely panorama of visuals. Finally we return for breakfast and get set for the next leg, a stay at our friends estate bordering Coorg.

Coming Up: Our stay at a beautiful estate with friends...

          Cheers

Thank You! Thankfully the ride and the destination were awesome

Our friends Chirag and Pooja have a sprawling 650 acre coffee estate at Kumbarahally on the Coorg border and they had invited us to spend a day there. It’s a short ride and we are there by early afternoon. Being a long weekend, the kids are also there and it’s so much fun to chat with them.

The estate is beautifully located overlooking large water bodies over which we are able to watch a glorious sunset. There are all kinds of trees, a large number of friendly dogs, horses and birds. All in all an awesome place to spend the day.

A biker Bipender and his friend were in the cottage next to ours- he had ridden down from Bangalore in his month old TB and of course we got talking about bikes and biking.

As night begins to fall, we all gather for dinner at a beautiful dining area and chat away over dinner late into the night. Finally we decide to call it a day and retire to our cottages. As we wind up, the creatures of the night wake up and we can hear their calls and squeaks as we fall asleep.

The next day we rise early as usual for our customary morning ride. Our friends warn us to be careful as a herd of wild elephants had entered near the estate and could be dangerous to encounter.

The morning is cool and crisp and we have an enjoyable ride watching the sun rise over the green. After some clicks and having built up a good appetite, we return for breakfast and get ready for our return ride.

It’s a beautiful day and after saying goodbye to our friends and thanking them for a wonderful stay at their amazing place, we begin our ride back home.

It’s been another lovely, green filled ride and as we head back to the city and the smoke, the dust and the noise, we are determined to get out and go for the green more often!

The ride, the road and the green….so great for mind, body and soul!

Sir jee, how old is your bike exactly and how many lakh kms have you done on it?
Also, REVITAL must get you as their brand ambassador.
HA HA!! Thanks DS. Revital indeed! The secret I guess, is my passion for riding and our love of the highways. Regarding bikes, well, I've used many, from a 1978 Yezdi to a !987 RX 100 and a Suzuki Fiero. On my present Zeus I've clocked about 13,000 km since last year. We hope to do a Southern Ride next month, yet to finalize the route though.

Thanks Haroon! Yes, green is always such a soothing sight especially for us city guys. And we from Bangalore are really blessed that way, hardly around 250 km and we are in coffee country!
