Well, this ride ended with a bitter news for me as the man from whom I believe I've inherited my determination and courage, my grandfather, passed away unexpectedly. The opening line to this thread is the last Tagore I heard him recite.

So the schedule is pretty messed up now. As soon as I get to spend a few nights in a row at home, I'll upload the first part of the ride report.

For some reason.. I just don't have the courage and guts to on a Solo ride.. that too on such a long ride.. Hats off to you mate
Thanks. Well it is a gradual process, getting used to enjoying riding alone. Riding in a group is great as well, if you have the right set of people with you. On a solo ride, you get to spend a lot of time with yourself. Some people enjoy that, others get bored. I'd suggest you start by doing small weekend solo rides. It can get quite addictive, I'll tell you that.

Beautiful shots Anirban. Bhutan never looked so beautiful. Do share some of the mundane details like time taken/any specific permit formalities for bikes and road conditions. Will serve as a reference point.
Thank you for your kind words, Mik.

I will, surely. Bhutan is a beautiful country, but unlike say Ladakh or Himachal, the information on Bhutan is pretty scattered. I think that is exactly why most people just visit a few touristy places in west bhutan and come back. Not fair. I'll definitely post a small but comprehensive guide article on riding Bhutan, including detailed permit procedure, places you want to hit up and road conditions. My R&D won't go to waste that way, haha.

Thanks, coolmaverickguy. For this ride, I used a humble nikon d5100 which is gripped, with a 10-24 and a 70-200 f2.8 lens. I also used cokin ND and grad ND filters, Vanguard sbh100 ballhead and my beach tripod. And a lowepro bag. All you wanted to know right there.

Thanks, joeantony! It has always been quite an experience for me, riding and shooting alone for days. Being a light snob, it can get really frustrating at times when you have this perfect scene at hand but you're not satisfied with either the quality or direction of your light. And at times, you end up wasting precious time on a single spot or small stretch of road, just tweaking your composition for hours and absolutely forgetting that there is still a lot of distance to cover. But then again, exploring a piece of land on a motorcycle gets you the atmospheres and photographs that most people would not get.

                          Mesmerizing!!!

Please pour in with more details. Route map, road conditions etc. Do you think January would be a good time to do Bhutan?
Thanks, Maverick180. Route map, road conditions et al will be covered in the logs. January is fine for Thimpu but for the rest of the country, I think you'll have issues with extending the permit. Some passes might be closed due to snowfall as well. And it will be really really cold. End February and March on the other hand would be wonderful. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go for it in December.

I am sorry to hear about your grand father, please accept my condolences. May his soul rest in peace!

i rather have a weird question - how did the Orazo's fair during the ride? did you experience any difficulty while shifting up (doesn't the steel toe obstruct)?

Subscribed and waiting for the T-Log.

                            Cheers!!

                              Thanks, mate.

They are great. I've been using those boots for a couple of years now. Very comfortable to walk around as well, does not make you feel like an astronaut. Even in Bhutan, I did the paro takshang trek wearing them. Solid 2.5hr uphill hike. Fared pretty well, didn't miss my quechuas that much. They dry up pretty quick too.

Steel toe obstructing toe shift, have never had that problem. On the contrary, I managed to fracture my toe in 3 places somehow, just 40-45days before the ride. So felt safe, having that steel toe there. In fact, for the same reason I was going to work/driving my car wearing those boots for a couple of weeks in between. They are pretty light for their size.

Although I might need to retire them now. No toe sliders. I've almost ruined the left one. Blame goes to Thimpu GP.
