Coonoor/Wellington

The house is spacious and comfortable and they are always happy to see us, often harping on their crazy aunt and uncle zooming away to various places on their bike!
The nights at Coonoor are always special. The house adjoins a heavily wooded area and animal sounds and sightings are common. After a day’s ride, a hot relaxing bath and then sitting around a fire sipping a warm drink, listening to the night sounds and swapping stories until we call it a day.

We rise early the next day and take the bike for a ride to experience the morning chill. Your fingers and earlobes get numb and it’s great to grab hot glass of tea and wrap your fingers around it.










At around 6.am we near the war memorial in Wellington and we are just in time to experience the daily ritual of soldiers paying homage to their brothers who lost their lives in the wars. It truly was a very special moment. As the soldiers stand at the memorial and the wreath is laid, everybody stops- vehicles, morning walkers and all. As we all stand in solemn silence in the chilly morning and the bugle is blown and and the soldiers salute respectfully, our hearts reach out in gratitude to our brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives so that we can enjoy our freedom as we do today. It’s truly an emotional moment and we return with renewed respect to our soldier brothers.
