  • My ride to Ooty RTMC, and how it ended

    Hi guys,

Before I start, I would have to inform you that I have not taken any pictures during the road though I will be able to upload some photos that my friends had clicked during the ride.

    Now to the ride....

Jan 22nd dawned like any other day, lazy start and loads of work to do. All the packing and usual last minute rush. I was to meet up with my friend ,Dominic aka Dom, at CTC by 2:30 and then ride to Bangalore. 2:30 at CTC and I was greeting by... nobody! Placed a call to Dom and he had just reached home. He advised me to start and said he would catch up with me on the way. So off I was, hit poonamale bypass then the NH4 and opened up the throttle. Before I knew it I was upon my college, Shri Venkateshwara College Of Engineering, decided to stop and meet Nayar, our lovabale chai wala outside our college.

Halted for probable 15 minutes with the hope that Dom would catch up, but then decided to push off and texted Dom. Little further down the road and I was not too sure about the route we where to take, Krishnagiri or Chitoor? Opted for Chitoor, it turned out to be the right choice, and sped off.

Old Madras road went by in a blaze, Palamner Ghats are one of the sweetest stretches and I was having a great time riding through the twisties. Halted at Palamner town a little before dawn and texted Dom. My instructions where to stop at Kolar CCD for him. Palmner to Kolar is around 80 Km, and with dusk settling in I began to feel the chill. I was tailing this Ford Fusion TDCI and we kept trading positions on and off though on the straights he would just cream by while I would have to wait for some traffic to tear by him. I must say the HID's did work splendidly in the dark.

By 6:30 I was at Kolar, I had done around 260 Km solo and it was jus then beginning to get dark. I sat shivering outside CCD waiting for Dom

@ Aryan: be patient bro, i'm alive and well though so don expect too much

Once at Kolar CCD, I walked in asked for water and shielded myself from the chill. My mesh Fieldsheer Mach7 Jacket was working really well, that is, it was letting all the wind blow right through to my chest

I peeled an orange and ate it, healthy riding you see Around 7 I could hear the familiar thump of Dom's 500. A minute later he came in riding and I must say, the sight and sound of that 500 thumping into the car park did add another layer of goose bumps We halted for another five minutes washed up and then called up another friend who was to catch up with us.

My friend Kiran, he owns a Pulsar 180 classic, had decided to take a different route from his office in Tambaram through Tada. As luck would have it, he was to get lost and end up riding another 100 Km extra and almost made a tour of Andhra

So off we where at 7:30 to Bangalore. Dusk had settled completely and wind chill was at its max. Dom was to pilot while I was to follow like an obedient learner. It was my first stint in the dark and Dom was a pro. I was to learn how involving riding can be in the dark in the next 1 hour. We made up the distance between Kolar and Bangalore, 80 odd km, in an hour in the dark. And it was B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T.

Riding behind Dom was a very good experience. We where doing 80 to 90 constant in the dark, and Dom could continously signal to me to watch out for speed breakers, sand, water, dogs, stray pedestrians etc! the list is endless!

8:30 sharp we landed at Bangalore and were warm and cuddly in my friends place DD, aka Dead Dog by 9:30 with a beer in hand. Long story short, Kiran reached Bangalore only by around 12:00 freezing and hands shivering like a drug addict. 2 shot of brandy and a medium chicken manchurian pizza later he was snuggled up in bed sound asleep.

The real hero of the day, my bro Dhananjay a.k.a DJ marched in at 3 AM. He btw had ridden from Nagpur to Bangalore via Hyderabad with the Wanderlust from Nagpur. Wanderlust is the Nagpur Royal Enfield group.

Next day morning we where to leave for Ooty at 6.

        To be continued....

              @ Shadez,

My bro, or for that matter most of my friends, are not clickers. Stops are only for refreshment and unfortunately I guess it has rubbed off on me.
