The Home Run
Leg 3
We woke up by 8:30 am in the morning and encountered this.
No, it was not cold. But we were really happy seeing fog all around us. We picked up our Go pros and went out to shoot some videos in the morning. We wanted to go to the same place we explore last evening to shoot some videos. However, the fog was not long lasting and soon the sun rays were kissing the ground. We slowly got ready and prepared ourselves to check out from the guest house, after having breakfast.
We wanted to explore a bit more of the National Park before we return home. So, we headed to the junction and took a right to head deeper into the forest. We were blessed with some breathtaking scenes. I present before you the pictures which we took in and around the National Park.
The more we went further into the forest, the more it was getting denser. Few Kms after we decided to go back as because the temperature was now rising. We rode back towards the checkpost from where we entered the National Park the previous day. Some pictures taken along the way.
We crossed the checkpost and headed back to Bangalore. It was the same route, however with some completely different look, being earlier in the morning. We came across the tea plantations and this time I stopped again to take some set of pictures here.
We scooted from there and continued on the State Highway towards Hassan. We wanted to avoid the same off road which we took yesterday and hence inquired for an alternate route. Couple of locals guided us to a diversion which would lead us to Hassan through a road which as per them, were in much better condition. Without thinking twice, we picked up the route and continued our leg. Few minutes in the ride and we realized that we had chosen the right route and in our minds, we were thanking the locals who guided us to this route.
We took advantage of the good road and increased our speed. In another 40 odd Kms we touched NH 201. This National Highway was a two lane, butter-smooth road! The moment we touched highway, we took a short break at a place covered with trees on both sides.
Before we resumed our leg, Ashish came to me and said that let's raise our speed and target to reach Hassan by 12 pm because we now think that the road will be in good condition ahead. I nodded and agreed and we started off. It was very easy to maintain a speed of 90+ on this highway because the traffic was very less during that hour and so by 11:45 am we were at the outskirts of Hassan. We looked for a fuel pump, quenched the thirst of our steeds and entered a dhaba by the NH4 for lunch. It was getting hot and humid by now so the lunch break was necessary for us.
Although we were not in a hurry but we realized that we had covered most of the road in less amount of time, so we took our time to have lunch. Around 1:00 pm we got ready to leave from the dhaba and continued our way towards Bangalore. Once we crossed Hassan, suddenly the traffic increased drastically and it was getting difficult for us to maintain a speed of 100 on the highway.
We rode nonstop till Kunigal and pulled over for a long awaited butt break. The intention was to also get the traffic thin out a bit so that we can ride in some fresh air.
All these while our phones were switched off and once we switched on our phones, we started getting missed call alerts, especially from families. We called them back assuring them that we are okay and are now heading back towards Bangalore. Few minutes later, finishing up the necessary calls, we resumed our last leg to Bangalore. By now the traffic had lowered down and we started gaining speed.
By 05:00 pm we were at the outskirts of Bangalore, at the NICE road toll booth. We stopped there to take a final snap of the ride, a snap that marks the end of the getaway from the concrete jungle.
We were overjoyed with the fact that we achieved what we wished for, a weekend well spent on the lap of nature. Gateways like these add up together and create memories, memories which last long. That night, before going to sleep, when I asked myself that what I did today, I was happy to find a different answer. An answer that made my life!
