    Default Ranganathittu

    RANGANATHITTU:

I used to think a ride should be of at least for two days and should be pretty far away from Bangalore.
I would get upset whenever my long ride plans got stalled for whatever reasons (work, weather, budget, personal commitments etc...) and sulk
    (Immature of me)
I would get more upset as itch to ride away grows more and only places I could ride was either to work or to near by restaurants and these would not satiate my hunger to ride more and see more places.
How silly of me to have such misconception

I was told by my younger brother (my guru
    ):
"Need not be long ones all the time. Sometimes short and small ones give you same pleasure if not more"
"Unplanned ones are better than planned ones"
"Need not have any destination. Where ever you end up is your destination"

In last three months my long-ride plans again got stalled for various reasons. For a change, thanks to my guru, I was not upset. But, I made use of the time and money available to enjoy the nearby beautiful spots and especially rides to those spots.

My sweet little brother also suggested
why take a highway, peep into country side. No traffic, healthy air and that's where true India is

So, here goes my last three one day matches when the test matches got cancelled.

    RANGANATHITTU:

    • Flashback to November. It's been quite some time since I went for a ride and itch to ride could not be controlled anymore. Called a friend and asked if he would be game for a ride, a short one and we would be back by evening. He readily agreed. We had few options like BR hills, Kokkare Bellur, Ranganthittu. Decided on the last one.
    • Left Bangalore around 8 am. Had breakfast at Kamat Lokaruchi. Later there was a jam and we were not curious to know the reason. We saw some vehicles taking a diversion into a country side road. We saw this as an opportunity for some off-road fun. Enjoyed country side roads.
    • Reached Ranganathittu. Nice place. Since it was Sunday there were lot of tourists. We found that many were there not to see the birds, but for coochie cooing. Place is anyways conducive.
    • Anyways, we were happy to see the islandish sort of place with boat ride in offering. We jumped into the boat. We were little disappointed to see not many varieties of birds. We were told by the boat captain that the season has just begun for migration and best time to see lot of varieties would be February.
    • We were contented with whichever bird we saw. Captain recognized types of birds and named them, scientific names. We could not catch a single name. We saw lot of crocodiles and he said there are about 100 crocodiles. And in the meantime our a crocodile saw our boat approaching it and slowly sunk right under the boat which sent a shiver down our spine and our captain got a bit carried away and took the boat very close to one of the largest predators resting on a rock bed and started poking it with his oar, which lead to a plea by another family on the boat to not to irritate the BIG GUY.
    • My friend and I, knew we were scared like hell inside, pretended to be brave hearts and were laughing it off . Finally, I asked the captain to move on. However, the BIG GUY lazily ignored us as his stomach was full. We saw many brothers and sisters of the BIG GUY
    • Captain explained to us about why birds fly to this place from thousands of miles as the place is conducive for breeding and there are no threats to their eggs.
    • Had lunch and a lazy walk around. Climbed the vantage-point-towers and had a nice view of the lake and the place.
    • Started towards Bangalore. We were happy with how the day went by.

    Default Nandi hills

    NANDI HILLS:

    • On December 31st, had plans to go to western ghats. But, had to cancel due to heavy rains forecast in western ghats. Was disappointed with this unexpected cancellation of tour.
    • My brother cheered me up and told me that sometimes unplanned ones are better and short trips provide same amount of pleasure if not more.
    • My brother and I decided to go for a short ride.
    • We thought of few places like Yercaud, Gopalswamy hills, Nandi hills.
    • It was already 12 pm. We decided upon Nandi Hills as we had never been there.
    • Highway was boring due to traffic.
    • Once we took diversion towards hills, cool breeze welcomed us. Had lunch and resumed the ride.
    • Loved the twisties.
    • Reached Nandi hills. Trekked to the top. Wandered around.
    • Went to Tippu drop and tried to imagine how they dropped prisoners and traitors from such heights killing them.
    • Paid obeisance in the Nandeeshwara temple
    • Wandered in the garden around the tourist bungalow. Weather was very pleasant.
    • Enjoyed the ride back in the evening and stopped to watch the sun set at the foot of the hills.
    • Took a detour and paid obeisance at Lord Shiva temple on the way
    • Thanked my brother for opening my eyes to enjoying shorter trips.

    Default Muthathi-shivanasamudram

    MUTHATHI-SHIVANASAMUDRAM:

    • It's been quite sometime since I went for a ride. The itch was growing stronger every day.
    • Rain played spoil sport again. Rains in February!!! Whats happening to our climate. Western ghats trip cancelled again.
    • Decided to go for a short solo ride. Muthathi came to my mind.
    • Brother said it falls somewhere near Kanakapura.
    • Fueled up and embarked on a short ride.
    • NH 209 till Kanakapura had crazy traffic and this NH did not have four lanes.
    • Came across Harley davidsons riding like crazy in that crazy traffic.
    • Post-lunch at Kanakapura, took a diversion towards Muthathi.
    • Perfect off roading setup. Saw many bikers stopping by to have few clicks.
    • Stopped by few police personnel who inquired about where I was coming from? Why am I riding solo? Am I carrying liquor? Do I have required documents like licence? Answered to aforementioned questions: Bangalore. No company. Nope (Showed my bag. I am a teetotaler). of course I do. However they got their prey immediately as some group of bikers neither had documents and also were carrying some portion of alcohol
    • Reached Muthathi. But was disappointed to see huge crowd who had set up refugee-like camps, cooking food and littering all over. They had come there for picnic (There was a clear board instructing to not to light fire. In-charge personnel over there were least bothered)
    • Did not find anything worth enjoying. Saw other bikers going back the same way they had come.
    • I decided to not to return the same way and proceeded further. This was a wonderful decision on my part. I proceeded towards a village called Haluguru.
    • Roads were okay. but setup was amazing. Ghats like roads, amazing afternoon weather. Overcast conditions and cool breeze.
    • Perfect movie like country side setup. After a long time enjoyed the ride to the core. My brother always told me "It's country side ride which is more fulfilling than the highways" So true.
    • Reached Haluguru. Had a tender coconut. Soothed my system.
    • Decided to continue further. Came across the board which stated many nice spots near by. Shivanasamudram, Talkad, Somanathpura. This was a pleasant surprise as none of these were on my list.
    • Proceeded towards Shivanasamudram (Gagana Chukki falls). Though water has reduced to a great extent, whatever I witnessed, the roar of the fallning water, fog around it, the weather made me feel like worth it Spent sometime clicking pics (Usually I do not click many pics. But this place was different ), enjoying the view and wandering around.
    • Proceeded towards Bangalore and came across few biker gangs (Pulsar 200 NS's, RE Classics)
    • Had a leisure ride back to Bangalore on NH 209.

Wonderful ride. Enjoyed the pics that simply explains why you had such a good time.
Good wisdom for the one-day rides. It makes things so much easier but equally enjoyable.

I think within touring section we should have another section "Day Tripping" so more people are encouraged to do such rides and share the information.

    Ride safe.
