  • [Photo Feature]: Tala Kaveri Conquered

Since my childhood all who have visited Tala Kaveri were telling me that it's a very nice place. To them it was surprise:Question04: that I have not yet seen that place. I had planned to visit a few times earlier but was not possible due to some or the other reasons. This time I hit the road to conquer this place and yes I did it:victory: felt so much happy:mango:.....

It had been a quite long since I did a ride, it was the last ride done to Mangalore with my wife Feb. There was thirst of urge to ride, so its time to quench the thirst. I wanted plan a ride but my wife had exams, didn't get an opportunity. I wanted to do a day's ride at least and was thinking of the destinations like Nandi hills, Mysore, Yercaud etc.

There was a long gap(4days) for the last exam after the May 1st worker's day. So dropped my wife at their parents home. May 2nd Friday was a working day. On Sunday had an other commitment. So there was only one Saturday left with me. So again dropped the plan of ride.

With no ride plans back home on Friday evening from office. Watched a hindi movie on youtube, with disappointing dropping ride plans watched few videos of the super bikes and other ride documentaries, went to bed by 2.30AM and the sound sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Scientifically it's belief that we tend to wake up when the body gets enough rest. There you go, I woke at 7:16AM on checking the clock. The moment I opened my eyes it was the Tala Kaveri pics view which cropped in the mind. With out wasting a single second I wanna get gear up and ride, I had only one day to ride.

This year, the summer was horrible in Bangalore. I got used to cold water bathing. It had rained previous night. As I was in a hurry, first mug of water on me, "uuuuuf the water is cold". quickly got refreshed with gears on informed dad about the 1 day's ride.

At 8:05 AM 1st gear on and start the ride. So the destination is Tala Kaveri I wanted to take the Mangalore road, Channaraya Patna, Holenarsipura, Arkalgudu, Shanivarsante, Somavarpete, Madikeri and Tala Kaveri. By 8:30 I was on the elevated fly over lucky me there was less traffic with in the city, weekend though. Just after the Toll collection gate there came a duke guy he was not in any of the riding gear. He came next to me got past me again slowed down over took me, but I did not bother for him(didn't wanna get into any kind of road rage) I was on my ride, maintained my steady pace of 80-90. Didn't understand what he was trying to do, I took Mangalore deviation and he went straight on Tumkur road.

At Bellur cross I slowed down at the Mayur's Hotel for breakfast. Parking full cars and the crowd was huge, as the waiter would take a long time to serve, I didn't wanna waste time there. So moved ahead to a hotel opposite to AIMS college. Had a masala dosa and plenty of water.

Did some good speeds on the highway. Took the main road to Channarayapatna ignoring bypass by 10:30AM. The deviation to Holenarsipura there I dealt with the river bridge. This water is flowing from Hemavati Jalashaya(Reservoir) and joins the KRS dam in Mysore. The view was serene with lush green all over and more of the sugarcane plantation. On reaching Arkalgud, there was a dilemma in my mind. Why don't I visit the Hemavati Reservoir it was 11:30 AM. It takes more than an hour if I go, mind said "no" but heart said "yes". There I went to the reservoir and a visit the Shettihalli church. It was an amazing view, couldn't resist to click. parked the bike and click, click...

I rode down to the church. As the church was appearing there was some shooting going on. The crew were speaking Kannada. Ohh Kannada movie shooting... no I am wrong. It was still shooting of a model. Little closer I go boy oh boy the model is gorgeous. Sorry I didn't take any pic of her. I didn't wanna disturb their work. Few more snaps and I leave by 12:55PM.

Remind you it had rained last night all through the way till here so the weather was good for ride. I could see rained logging in the road side.

Back to Arkargud and towards Shanivarsante. There started the forest. Once I reach Mallipatna there started the curves. I was so happy to corner the curves. I overtook all the vehicles in the whole of the Ghats roads in whole ride. A couple of stretches I was little bit over speeding, then realized and slowed down. What I say is Ride fast up to not crossing the safety limits.

Reached madikeri by 2PM. My friend had advised that, good lunch is served at Bhagmandal. I was too hungry to have lunch so decided to have it in Madikeri. I enter Madikeri now what search for veg hotel. It was one heck of time searching for pure veg hotel and have veg food. Had a okayish kind of food and had about 44km to TalaKaveri.

I reach the base of the Bhagmandala there the pleasant cool breeze was inviting. While climbing up in the curves became even cooler. At 3:05PM I reach Tala Kaveri. Man what a place it is holy and such an amazing place. Spent some time there, offered prayers our mother river Kaveri. Sat at the view point for some time relaxed mind and body. When I reached there the sunlight slowly subsided. The clouds formation was pretty fast. I sensed that its gonna rain heavily very soon. So its better to leave instead of getting stuck in rain. In the excitement I hadn't checked the odo, now I see its a whopping 387km covered till here.

I could cover this much distance only because of the good roads in the interiors villages till here.

I start back home at 4:00PM from Tala Kaveri, rode back in the same route to Madikeri. This time the route is KushalNagar, Mysore and Bangalore. The Kushal Nagar highway is in good condition. I have to mention I had to maintain slow speed as the traffic was high limiting me to overtake. By 5:50PM I reached Kushal Nagar fueled up in a decent petrol bank. I spotted the a couple of Tibetian monks, "Oh my god, I had forgotten to visit Tibetan Monastery The golden Temple". Took the deviation I couldn't believe my eyes the temple is huge, so well sculptured. Felt like I am not in India for that moment. Its really a pride of Karnataka.

6:45PM back on the highway towards Mysore I resumed, took the ring road in the mysore an insect hit my eye and managed till Mysore-Bangalore highway. By just little before 8 PM I was on the Mysore-Bangalore road. Stopped for quick break and cleaned the eyes with water splash and the helmet's visor as well. Reminded myself it had rained all through way last night, chances of rain tonight..? rode till Maddur and I could notice lightening ahead. Oh rain god please don't make stop. Rode few kms I could smell the rain, by reaching Channapatna it started raining pulled over to a petrol bunk's shelter. It rained cats and dogs. There were a couple of Royal Enfield bullet riders next to me I pro-actively introduced myself to them and had a wonder chat until the rain subsided, 1 hour had passed by without our knowledge. That's biker brother hood. Informed them on starting I will speed away before them. 10PM we resumed from channaptana, hit the constant speed of 90-100s and reached home by 11:10PM.

There concluded a wonderful one day ride. I had covered 750km in 15hrs including all breaks. That's a good distance kms I have munched I believe.

Visited all the 3 places which I had never seen.

That's it for now. Will come up with my next ride and it's log soon.

            Re: Tala Kaveri Conquered

Had conquered tala Kaveri in early march, but took the opposite routes (went via Mysore and came back through channapattana). There were lots of bad stretches between madikeri and channapattana that time (after all those high speed curves) and also on and off stretches between madikeri and talakaveri.
