  • solo trip from bangalore to pune and back in 48 hours...1900kms

    hey guys,
this literally was the ride of my life. the longest ever if you disregard my regular bangalore to chennai solo trips by bike. My ride is fz-s which has clocked 30k kms in three years. the situation which lead to this was a strange one. I had an interview on 8th june at pune and also my final year project review on 9th at bangalore. So my options were limited to bike or bus. But me being me i chose the bike .
I started preparing for the trip. Bought basic safety gear and then changed the oil and made sure my papers were in order. Though there was the fear of tire puncture on the back of my head.
The D day arrived. I left on 7th june at 6 a.m after tanking up. my target was to stop every 200kms for stretching. i wanted to reach before sundown. I was ripping down the highway at 100kmph. I was expecting the bike to give me an average of 30kmpl but the constant full speed gave me only 250kms per full tank.
so there i drove like a mad man. i stopped every 200 kms to make sure i dont overheat my tires and to tank up. The last thing you want to do is push your bike because fuel got over.
the drive was too good. you cant help smiling when you flash through a toll booth overtaking a car who zoomed past you giving you an air push plus paying no toll. Nh4 was beautiful. Hardly any patch of bad roads. I reached pune at 6 in the evening tired and my body was screaming in pain. A FZ is the not exactly meant for the long drive. slept late in the night as i had to prepare for the interview which was a mistake.
The interview finished, it was time to travel back to Bangalore. It was gonna be a long one and most of it was gonna be a night trip. I left at 1 pm on 8th. i had to take drastic measures. I resolved to stop only for fuel.
The trip back was grueling and painful. Had a small incident where i parked my bike on a slop with neutral gear. The bike rolled down a ditch while i was busy on the phone. A group traveling by a 6 seater saw my misery and helped me pull my bike out of the ditch. The following photo was after the "rescue". Click image for larger version

The night travel was scary n cold if not painful for the eyes because the visor of the helmet had to be pulled up because of glare and that meant insects coming into ur eyes. I finally reached bangalore at 4 am on 9th june safe n tired.
    The ride of my life!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the approval...i am waiting for a saddle sore ride for which this route would be the best...the target would be the SS1000 though with the proper ride the SS1500 would be a reality....waiting for company....

Good to see you selected bike over bus!
Just two advices - Carry some amount of petrol in a bottle with you because you never know. And get a pair of transparent moon glasses to counter the insect and dust problem in night. I own one from IDEE. Cost me 1200/-. Trust me, it's very handy even for short trips.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
