  • The Highways, The Hills and a Bikers Meet

It was a cool and cloudy Friday evening; the weekend was around the corner and the monsoon hadn’t really arrived as yet. We sat on our rooftop (where most of our plans are hatched!) and discussed the coming weekend. While most people had shopping, a mall visit or the movies on their ‘to do’ list, a biker’s mind wanders onto the open road.

We decided that the hills would be great in this weather but we had to get back by Sunday afternoon, so we narrowed it down to Yelagiri Hills. It’s close enough for a short ride.

No sooner than ride was planned, the excitement set in! It’s strange how even after so many years of touring, every ride, even a short one brings a new wave of anticipation and joy! Yes, a biker’s best moments are on the highways

We wake up early as usual on Saturday morning and we head out on to Hosur road before crowds set in. The weather is cool and pleasant, a perfect day for a ride

Soon we are at Krishnagiri and pull over for breakfast. The piping hot dosas and coffee tastes delicious. Breakfast always tastes great on an early morning ride I guess. Hunger satiated, we are off again. After Krishnagiri, we turn on to the Chennai route and very soon we could see the hills up ahead. We realize that this really is a short ride as we near the foothills

Petrol is not available on top of Yelagiri, so it’s wise to fuel up before the climb. It’s a short climb compared to the many we have done, just 14 hairpin curves, but the climb is pleasant with a good road and lots of greenery.

    To Be Completed......

    Cheers!!

      Thank you PSR Sir

Being a weekend, the place is quite crowded with tourists, but we head out to YMCA which is about 6km away from town in a really quiet location.

As we enter the gates we roar of some bikes revving up and then see a large group of Bullets lined up in order in the compound. We learn then that the India Bullet Riders Club (Bangalore and Chennai) are meeting there to celebrate their 2nd anniversary! The guys were curious to see our little Zuki riding up and we told them it was just coincidence that we were here on the same day. Bikers always bond and introductions and wishes later, they invited us to join them.

As the evening set in and the Sun sank over the hills, the weather got really cool as the bikers gathered around a bonfire, chatting and chilling. As it often happens on the hills, the weather can change in a jiffy! Loud thunder, lightning and sheets of rain dampened the bonfire but not the spirits. As we retired to our room, we could hear the guys celebrating away into the night.

The morning is bright and clear. The rain had disappeared just as it came, having given everything including our bikes a thorough wash.

We take a ride to explore a bit and after a short visit to the lake we return for breakfast and prepare to ride back.

The Chennai group of bikers had left early. The roar of a group of bulls starting up together was music to our ears and as they rode away after goodbyes we were glad we could meet.

After breakfast and exchange of greeting and goodbyes to the Bangalore bikers, we head on to the road again. It was a short but rejuvenating ride and meeting the Bullet group was pleasantly surprising package!

      CHEERS GUYS! RIDE SAFE

Thanks again Sir. Yes I guess commercialization has crept into most hill stations. Here there are now resorts and hotels at every turn! We just need to flow with the changes, I guess
