  • [Photo Feature]: why I ride: Muzhappilangad Beach

    10:30 am; Wakeup dizzy and lazy.

    Another messed up weekend, acute sleep, delayed deadlines, irritating customers, complaining labours.. was living in chaos. Oops all this week have been full of regret for messing up every plans and schedule, now one more ride too. What next ! dumped my ass on couch in front of the idiot box, munched on eggs and bread. All those frustration from week was taking over as it ticked.

    11:45 am; Tour de garage.

    Stepped into my garage, that yellow monster was waiting to be ripped again on the highway. Temptation! Rushed back in; shower, backpack, gears, wallet, helmet, key.

    12:00 am; On highway.
    Just parked at first petrol bunk on highway and geared up. Was confused about destination 'that was a good thing' and wallet had just enough for one tank up and may be a snack. living on the west coast of the country have done long ways towards north for a quick ride. Now considering 'MAHI (pondichery)' decided to take towards south and tank up with cheap petrol and ride back might save few extra for lunch too.

    All through the ride I was going through a reboot, past 3 weeks had filled up lot of junk and to clean that mess I know this will be really short ride, because I was almost halfway through the ride and was not feeling it in me. These where common roads on other mood of transport but its first time riding this stretch. Actually I know the road so well that even some port holes i remember exact and directions where all in my conscious. so was not occupied with the ride at all and I was just mumbling inside my helmet ' I need a break, i need a break'. Then gave a thought for possible destinations in the region and not long before i could decide on one things. There was a right turn towards the Asia's longest drive beach.

    02:20 pm; 100kms from home.

    Off from the highway, carving slow though the village roads, over a railway crossing, waiting kids clear the field (cricket on road), more narrow roads and finally hit that sand. Yes I am riding. Over a soft blanket, sand was so solid didn't understand what made me feel comfortable the beach, bike or the just found love for the days ride. Just took my helmets off... its was so overwhelming to find that salty breeze on my face, felt like all my past sins got washed away with those breeze. Shallow open ocean in front and endless beach on either sides. Smiles and joy where back, wanted to enjoy it deep with in, got off my gears and strapped it to rear seat. Was feeling the good part about being lonely in life, enjoying my freedom, took a slow stroll with my bike along the whole stretch of the beach. Found a vacant spot at the extreme end and settled down, it was peaceful... when you choose to be alone and get that freedom its really worth every breath, that's what biking has always given me 'FREEDOM'.

    It was wonderful to see yellow monster gleam in sun. I was very much unequipped, still couldn't resist without few clicks. Spending some quality time with my beast, decided to carry forward to the destination.

    4:00 pm;
    Mahe is an old township, squeezed up roads with population and national highway passing through the middle of the crouched, old, sneaky buildings. All this made it ideal for an enjoyable slow ride through a different culture and life even-though it was Kerala, Mahe is different. One can still spot the late colonial effects in those streets, funny looking cops with red english cap, bit of french architecture on round abouts, lateral brick walls which surely shows the age. Petrol bunks on highway are crowded, you save 3rs a lite nothing to wonder. Tanked up with lot of saving and it gave a huge smile, but it was time to return back. That's wen realized there is a spot which I admired allot in the pics and in a movie too. Decided to hunt it down, not much of a trouble it was.

    This spot looks romantic on a foggy morning but, I tried my iteration on a sunny day. Enjoying all this scenic view I forgot about lunch and time, still there was one more spot to add my curiosity the fort, actually I love those wormed out bricks and extremity of build. So next stop the thalessey fort was a quick run, its a small fort actually, the french period i guess, with wide and tall walls. Walls where wide enough to walk around "even though I am scared of heights at times" like to take on it.
    Now hunger was taking its toll so decide to windup the day and rush to nearest eat out. Yummy mussels, sea food always at rescue in these area.

    So much for a half day ride, I was brimmed. Decide to ride back slow, because the Monday I was going towards was scary again and wanted to spend more of my moments and breath deep this freedom. After all that unknown, unplanned surprises reached back around 9:00 pm. HAD a good night sleep.

    Some random pic ;

          Yes... Its from last December. When it comes to writing I stick to old fashioned way, now considering myself with enough solo to my credit and still a rookie in xbhp. Thought let's put den down here.
