      Re: ZMR,DUKE.Bangalore-Mullayanagiri-Jog-Gokarna-Goa.

This thread is almost dead right now, and its nobody's fault but my own. Though the last leg is pretty small and doesn't require much work to write up, I have taken a lot of gap. Sincerely apologize to everyone who read this thread and appreciated my writing. I never thought describing my own accident would be so tough, but I will come back soon and finish this log at the earliest. This weekend is booked for this thread now !! !

        Day 2: Jog Falls-Honnavar-Gokarna-Karwar-Palolem

Once again, apologies for the delay.
The second day was less travelling and more relaxation so we decided to cover Gokarna as well before reaching Palolem. As palolem was near the border, we had the option of riding at our own pace.
This is how we were greeted in the morning, our room was in a mess and decided to skip arranging them.

        Our bags

        Wet shoes

Instead, we took bath and headed straight to the falls.

        The Jog

        Time for some posing :-)

Even though the falls were not in there usual full flow expected at this time of the year, they looked beautiful. Early morning gave us the advantage of sneaking our bikes inside the visitor area. Under normal circumstances, vehicles are not allowed here. Lesser number of tourists also allowed us to be at peace and try our hands at photography. The photographs under this leg are edited though.

        Full-view

        Posers

        Back-view

After a while, we decided to head back and start packing as we had to leave for Honnavar and Gokarna. I have to accept though, getting up early in the morning during trips is a wise idea. Nature is best enjoyed when the number of tourists are less.
We came back, packed our bags and since it was already around 9, we decided to have our breakfast before starting, in the same small place we had our dinner. Once again we were overwhelmed by the food on offer. Though it was the humble idli and dosa, believe me the taste was a vast improvement that I of got used to in Bangalore.

        The humble hotel

        Awesome breakfast

After a good breakfast, it was time to say goodbye to Jog. I managed to get a few shots just before leaving after our respective saddle bags were in place.

After a heavy rainfall the night earlier, the bikes were washed up and clean.

The coal powered water heater :-)

Meanwhile, just before we started we found two flags kept near the sofa of our hotel. Asked the owner and he gave it to us. We lost 10 minutes trying to place them properly in our bikes, strangely though it took more time to get it fixed in ZMR as the saddle bags were making the task difficult. Finally, we managed to fix it but with one small problem, I now had to get down from the bike by moving my legs above the tank as there was a 3 feet flag in my bike. For a thin guy it might not be a big issue but for a person like me weighing above 100kgs, it was a very big issue. Anyhow, I decided to go with it.

We managed to do a jugaad by placing my Moto G between the gap of number plate and wind shield of the duke and we recorded for a while.
At one of the elaborate turns en route Honnavar, Sid signaled me to stop as he wanted some cornering pics.

As was the condition of the placement of that flag, I literally had to jump from my bike after placing it on side stand (I hope I am describing it correctly, coz I know it sounds weird !!). I have had a ligament injury a few months back and when I jumped I heard a "Kadaak" from my knee.

        The 'Kadaak' moment

It was back !! the dreaded knee injury was back. Lucky for me though, it was not hurting as much. I sprayed some Volini spray and waved my hand at Sid to continue as I was ready to take the shots.

Meanwhile, I managed to take some shots of my own bike.

Why do I have a pic of Sid with a Omni passing by him? Well, that Omni guy eventually stopped near his bike and asked one of the weirdest questions you would come across in India.

Omni Guy - Yeh sab kya pehna hai ? (what are you wearing ?)
Sid - Jacket aur gloves hai, protection ke liye (These are Jackets and gloves for protection)
Here comes the interesting question -
Omni guy - Yeh jhanda kaahe ka hai bey? (Why do you have a flag in your bike?)
Sid - Indian flag idiyaa anna, Independence day ke waastey. (It's Indian flag, for Independence day)
Omni guy - Toh aaj kaaiku laga ke ghum raha hai, tum loh ka Independence day khatam ho gaya naa kal hi ?(then why do you have it today? wasn't the Independence day over yesterday?)
Sid - 16th August ho ya 15th, mere country ka jhanda hai, jab chahe lagaau (16th Or 15th, it's my country's flag, I will put it whenever I want)

By then I reached and Sid was fuming with anger. They even dared to ask us how would we feel if they carried the 'green flag' all around the country after 14th August !! !
Believe me guys this sounds made-up, frankly speaking I would have thought the same if someone else told me so. Me and Sid decided to go on and not enter into an argument as there were others too.
We were way ahead of those people in no time, but the anger just refused to go down. I have been to this area earlier too, but this was the first time I faced people like these.
The way it rained last night and in the ghats, we were in our rain gear, but it was boiling hot here.
Before reaching Gokarna, neither one of us could bear the heat and we took off our rain liners. I also used this opportunity to hand over my flag to the shop nearby.
        Next stop - GOKARNA !! !

We reached Gokarna soon as the road was smooth and traffic was bare minimum. We tried to enquire about various beaches but ended up deciding to take some rest near the famous viewpoint and wait for the sun to have some mercy on us. We saw a resort nearby and the view was nice from there, so we took a halt for food etc.

        Time-pass

        The resort

        View from the resort

After while, we decided to head towards the view point, once again we were lucky as the weather started to change and we could see clouds far away. In the scorching heat, it was a sign of relief. We went up the slope and rested there for almost an hour. Just two or three cars came there during that time and it was peace all over again.

        Near the view-point

        Happy independence day :-)

        Our bikes enjoying the view

        Nirvana

        Helmet selfie !

Noticed a small board that read this -

        A stop en route

        Warship Museum - Karwar

Immediately after entering Goa, it started to rain heavily. We took shelter near the toll booth. I was as always hungry and could smell good food nearby, saw a make-shift chai waala thela. Went there and had the thing that goes best with rain - onion pakoda!! Ended up gulping down three plates of pakoda and 2 double omelettes

        Food stop.

We reached around evening. It was raining a bit and we did not have previous reservation, searched and bargained hard for rooms around the beach and finally found one for 550 rs.
Considering the amount we had paid yesterday in Jog this was dirt-cheap.
We dumped our bags in the room and headed out to the beach without the camera.
No pictures therefore of the beach.

After a little walk we came back, took our phones and wallets and set out for dinner.
        Our room for 550rs

Goan style dinner, the shells type things were delicious.

I must admit, it was an awesome day for my stomach, tasty breakfast, good lunch, pakodas in rain and then a sumptuous dinner. Pet happy toh Dil happy

After the food, we went back to bed.
Next day morning - Riding on the beach !! !

              Day 3 - Palolem-Mundgod-Crash-Nice road-Home-Pain

After a lazy night yesterday, we woke up. Plan was to laze around the area for the day and move on to Agonda for the sunset. I was in for a surprise though, as soon as Sid woke up, he said he had to leave foe Bangalore today. I had a discussion with him and we decided to head to the beach, relax a bit and leave by afternoon to avoid riding the ghats in the evening.

Spent around an hour at the beach -

              Me

              Sid

              DSLR selfie :-)

              Sid

              Me

              Mission accomplished

We came back, packed and started for Bangalore around 1:00 p.m

Took a u-turn just for this awesome view and bid adieu to Karwar

My motoG as a desi jugaad for recording the ghat section @nelsonsanjoy, this is what I was talking about earlier

              View from the desi jugaad

              Namastey fellow riders !! !

We entered a beautiful forest section before Mundgod, it was getting dark and we had crossed the ghats. We were on target till now and we had not taken any significant stop up until now. We decided to take some shots here and continue once it was completely dark. We had no idea what kind of messed up roads awaited us ahead.

Reached Mundgod, it was dark by then. We stopped at a small shop for tea and I was surprised to see a lot of Tibet citizens around us. On our way I had noticed a pagoda type and out of curiosity asked Sid about these. It was a beautiful place and it was in the middle of no where, the tea was awesome and food was being prepared on coal. Since we were running out of time, this was a short stop. Enquired about the way forward and villagers said we have to reach Bankapur which will then connect to NH4.

Bankapur had a surprise for us. There was off-roading and then there was this - just piles of soft mud made worse by the recent rains. I could barely manage my bike here. Took a lot of time to tackle that small stretch and bragged about not falling or tripping for a single time. Again, fate had kept the worse for last. We finally saw the NH4 and a toll gate shortly after, we stopped for tea and I noticed my odo.

We discussed how the tough part was behind us and I confidently told Sid about the number of times I have been on NH4. I was confident from here on and said I would lead as I will keep his speed under check otherwise Duke would just fly away. I was cruising at my usual speed of 70-80 but as the roads seemed straighter and my eyes became sleepy, I started twisting the throttle a bit more than I usually do. 80-90-100, I kept going and locked my speed at 110kmph. My confidence in this road got the better of me. I was in the left lane and the truck ahead of me took a sharp left from middle lane towards the service road. I looked at my right RVM and I could see a blinding light just beside me. I braked hard, and the next thing I remember was my leg trapped under my saddle bag and the truck fading away. I have tried a number of times to recollect what really happened but Sid came soon, helped me lift my bike and take my feet out. I was unable to stand so he helped me limp my way to a concrete block lying nearby and parked my bike in the service road. Don\'t know how much time it took me to come back to senses but Sid said he didn\'t have to wait long. I was still wearing my helmet and Sid reminded me to take it off to check if there was any other injury. Helmet saved me - Not single scratch, I noticed there was no air in the front Tyre and there was the mar of my bike on road. Sid went ahead in search of a puncture shop.

              The marks

After getting the Tyre repaired, I decided that I could move on till Bangalore, my handle was crooked and headlight was flickering a bit. I kept following Sid and we slept for an hour after reaching Kamat. I managed to reach Nice road and that\'s when it hit me - People around me looking at me with weird expressions and murmuring among st themselves. In my RVM I noticed a group of college guys taking their cellphone to take my picture. It was early morning and sun was up, I asked Sid what was wrong as I was starting to feel uneasy by the on-lookers and the q was pretty long at the toll collection. He said nothing is wrong, they are probably interested in the saddle bags etc. At Bannerghatta junction Sid waved his hand and said goodbye. I had to move alone from here on. I stopped at a random place and took out my phone just to check the calls etc. I had replies in the xbhp Bangalore whatsapp group asking if anything was wrong. Clicked a few pictures and shared with them. Helpful words from fellow riders gave me courage to move on as the pain was starting to build up.

I came back home with the same expressions from people at traffic lights. I parked my bike in my garage, opened my jacket that I have been wearing since yesterday afternoon and finally got to understand what were the on-lookers interested in.

I could not feel my shoulders, my ankle was hurting as if somebody was hitting them constantly, I was a bit dizzy and hunger and Thirst had taken a back seat. The climb up the two floors of my building seemed like eternity. Jay took care of me, ointments, volini spray, bandage and what not. I soon fell asleep.

My bike\'s condition after I took it to the service station a week after.

With this I finally complete this log which have been kept pending since decades.

P:S - On December 1st weekend, I went back to Goa, this time with Jay as my pillion. Followed the same route and showed her the spot where I had hit a truck. It was night, the road was the same pitch black and trucks were still driving like death on wheels, the only difference - I was a wiser rider.

My playlist had just the song for the moment - Here I am.. .
