  • [Photo Feature]: The long way round

Hi guys. This is the story of my last weekend ride. Around 6 months back i saw this guy called Ajay Ananth's R1 diary where he had mentioned some of the best riding routes. I had tried almost all the routes he mentioned but i had never ridden through Belur-Hassan highway. I had traveled in a car longg back but never on a bike. So that was on my list, plus i always wanted to ride through Sringeri aswell. The problem was i never got the time, due to work and family obligations. Plus my sister in law is getting married on September 29, so we are busy planning up for that, to which we have to travel all the way to Sikkim. So by the beginning of September i didnt have any hopes of a ride anytime before november. I was sad. Seeing my bike parked for a long time is always sad.

Then one day i got a call from my best friend from Bangalore, to remind me that on September 14 one of our junior boys in Bangalore was getting married in Coorg. No s!@#...no wayy..i had totally forgotten. My 5 Bangalore friends had decided they will drive down to Coorg. Machiah(Groom) was one of the last few bachelors left in our group, this was an all boys tour. So i informed my wife about the wedding and she gave me a 'lucky dog, a reason for riding' look to me. Since i live in Kasaragod, Coorg is just a 2 hour ride. But i had other plans. So on September 12, friday, i started out at 6.30am to Coorg...the long way round...here's the route...

    Kasaragod>Mangalore>karkala>Kuduremukh range>Sringeri>Belur>Hassan>Bangalore Day 1

Thanks for the quick approval Boss.. So started off at 6.30am and passed through Mangalore and reached somewhere near Karkala at around 8.30am. Got a restaurant filled my belly with yummy idlis and vadas. The guy working there told me the road to Sringeri is in good condition, narrow but good tarmac. I was expecting the other way round so i was pleased. Started off towards Kuduremukh range and took the diversion towards Sringeri. South Indian guys will be aware of this route, just wanted to tell my north fellow riders who dont know this route, if you do come here please try out this route. The scenery and roads make it a super ride. Reached Sringeri at around before noon, filled the tank. My next destination was Chickmagalur. Sunday was the Misano Motogp and i already saw the signs..))Click image for larger version
