  • [Photo Feature]: Tirupati Tirumala executed unplanned plan to perfection

Roughly booked the online tickets for the Tirupati Tirumala temple. There was no idea that we would make it possible, that too riding. My friend Kiran is a bulleteer insisted, we ride. There was an other guy joining us was not able to due to some personal reasons. Okay, now we are 2 riders who are able to make it to ride.

    Me on Pulsar 200NS
    Kiran on Bullet STD 500.

    The prologue:

    Day 1:

Last night I had cycled to Mysore. In fact ended ride today 12:15 AM. Slept by 1 AM, woke up 8:15 AM, got the expected peaceful sleep overnight due to tiredness. Below is the thread link:

I had to meet my wife before ride, as she was at her parents house for Ganesha chaturthi in SR nagar. Met her and had brunch, she wished best for the ride and back to home and packed my stuff.

As we discussed to start by 2 PM, we did. We took the interior road to reach Avalahalli, old Madras road. By the time we reached Avalahalli, we were greeted by the rain. Our jackets had the rain liner but the lower half was drenched, we didn't bother for it and proceeded, it did rain until we rode to Hoskote. We maintained the steady pace of 70/80 KMPH.

I was hungry, wanted to have something light. Signaled Kiran and took U turn to Vasudev Adiga's Restaurant and pulled over, looking at the sky, pardon me sky was not visible, we were chased by thick black wild clouds we didn't want to wait instead proceeded further towards Mulbagal. Stopped to click photo's with the wild clouds background. We were surprised to see extended 6 lane work after Mulbagal. Once we got the 2 lane roads nearer to Andhra, every odd village dealt with, there was the Ganesha immersion procession on the road. It was really frustrating all the uncivilized morons on the road dancing for the tunes like "lungi dance", "char bottal vodka", and telugu item songs in the name of god. Worst part is they block the road and manage themselves to their wish and will.

The villagers have very less traffic sense. The locals cross the roads as if only they are on roads, unnecessary life risking overtakings. we were alert riding safe with extra caution in spite of these kind of people. Not the same in Karnataka roads, I mean comparatively less.

The less known ghat roads after Palamaner was good to ride. We randomly stopped at a restaurant and had light food. It was a half an hour break a much needed one as previous days cycling butt sore started to show. Took the chittoor bypass ring road. Even KSRTC bus drivers are ridiculous couple times while their overtaking made us to get off road, curse on them. Fueled up the tank in the next available petrol bunk, we planned to check into a lodge, which is close to Alipiri(the start point of Tirumala climb). We reached Alipiri by 6:45PM and with in 300Mtr found a lodge called Srinivasa lodge not so good but still charged 600 bucks for 2. While marching towards rooms from reception I spotted good hifi cycling bikes, guessed definitely from Bangalore. The organizer just reached there, had a chat him. He shared information how they plan, a support vehicle and medical emergency support. For Tirupati they charge 2.5K one day ride (13-17 hours)ship back the bikes to Bangalore next day evening.

Okay back to our ride, we checked into the room. Kiran wanted to get a head tonsure(mundan/gundu), suggested morning it may take lot of time why not now as we were free. Took only his bullet 500 and I rode uphill and down, it's performance is flawless, such a bliss to ride, simply superb. While climbing we saw the brightly lit up Tirupati city, such an amazing sight it was. People riding from foothill Alipiri to Tirumala, one caution, at the entry check point you need to pay Rs.2 toll and on hill top a guy checks the slip provided. What does he check? the start time and allotted time to reach, if you speed up and reach before time. You are attracted to fine, its for the safety purpose. So, make your you are safe riding.

Reached on top parked the bullet. Searched for head tonsure queue, he went in and I came to the very famous laddu couter. Extra laddus, Rs.100 for 4 laddus each person and got it(took close to 1 hour). Call to Kiran he said, "Maam, queue move agta illa wait maadu"(buddy, queue is not moving please wait). I went with another go for 4 laddus got it. Call to Kiran again, he said, "maam, ee ajamru Sunday anta rajah haaki hogbittidare ante, yen madodu?"(buddy, these barbars being Sunday taken off to work, what to do?). I insisted him to come back and we will check in the morning, had dinner at fast food shack and by 10:05PM climed down to Tirupati. By 11 PM retired to bed with an alarm set to 5 AM. Unfortunately due to mosquitoes we didn't get a proper sleep. Tried with high fan speed.

    Day2:

Woke up at 5AM at alarm buzz. Quickly without wasting any time got refreshed. packed all the stuff, checked out of the room. There you go 5:40 AM we were at the the Alipri toll, there was check done, guy said, "Sir, mee bag scan chepi andi"(Sir, please get your baggage scanned). I put my bag in the machine the inspecting guy noticed already so many laddus in bag, and gave a wierd look at me. It was a pleasant morning as the light of dawn made sight more beautiful, very cool breeze to add to that. Reached on top, Kiran knew someone who has a small shop selling gods photo frames and toys. Called him up located the shop and dumped all the belongings there. Kiran infromed him about the head tonsure, that guy put a hand around his shoulder and took him in, the tonsure place was just beside the shop. I was waiting, 5 mins now thinking they take a lot of time ordered a cup of horlicks, I got it and started to sip a couple of times, wow..! both of them back with Kiran's head tonsured, look at the watch, hardly 10 mins they took. We took the required clothes in a plastic carry bag and headed towards Papa vinashini, 7KM route was amazing. It was shower kind of man made falls, we go beneath the falls and aaarh the water was chilling cold. Quick visit to Ganagamma devi temple nearby, ride back to the shop and dump the plastic carry bag, had our breakfast. Straight away we walked towards the temple queue, 8:15AM we were in and crowd management in the queue was better than the previous times been there. By 9:45AM we finished a wonderful darshana and collected our laddus, quick visit to Varaha Swamy temple near the huge kalyani. Then we took our bikes and rode towards the Srivari Padalu(God's foot prints). The environment reminded me of the nilgiris in Ooty. If any one goes to Tirumala don't miss to visit Srivari Padalu.

Took few pics on the way. Back to the shop and packed up all the things, heart-fully thanked the shopkeeper and bid bye to him. With the gears on by 12 noon we climbed down the hill, and took the Bangalore highway. On reaching Chittoor refueled our bikes, took the city route. We stopped at the Nandi retaurant for lunch and had tasteful Andhra style full meals. After a half an hour break resumed our ride. The head winds slowed us a bit compared to the onward journey, it was a better day as well with no Ganesha processions on roads. In the Palamaner ghat we saw a guy who had minor fatal accident, had scratches on hands, legs and forehead, he didn't wear a helmet. People already were helping him. Proceeded further and surpassed the Karnataka border, in Mulbagal it was very cloudy and started to rain. Took a break at tea stall and having tea waited for the rains to recede. Near Kolar instisute of Horticulture Kiran signed me to pull over to take pictures, in front of the Sri Rama statue with bow and arraw. Again my butts sore was felt badly and tried all possible positions. By 6:15PM we reached home and thanked god for our safe journey and concluded our ride. I had completed 566KM in total. This was the best ride there, than the previous 3 rides.

    below are the pics.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

      Good set of pictures.
But please wear helmets while riding.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Srivari Darshan in 1:30 hrs. Looks like Lord Venkateshwara showered his blessings on you. On another note, short, simple and nice travalogue.

With the the online e-tickets on a Monday(1st day of the week) made the trick. We often plan on a week day due to the prior experience on Saturday took more about 5-6 hours with same online Rs.50 e-ticket.

            Thanks for the compliment.
